I am 51 years old and have been a UT fan all my life. But some of our fans truly annoy the sh*t out of me. We lost a meaningless midweek game and some of these jock sniffers who probably never played sports a day in their life are throwing tantrums. I don't normally do this, but I'm going to address some of the ridiculous crap I have seen tonight.

1. We shouldn't have played at Smokies Stadium - BS! 8K fans got to see the Vols play. Go ask the players if they enjoyed the environment. Think about the exposure UT baseball got from that game. Teams play games at neutral sites all the time. Vanderbilt recently played Lipscomp at the Sounds stadium in Nashville. It's baseball. Guess what? The rubber is still 60'6" from home plate. Home plate is still 17" wide. The base paths are still 90'.

2. We shouldn't have used wood bats - guess what? Tech played with wood bats too! And a lot of college players play in wood bat summer leagues every year. Wood bats didn't cost us the game. They impacted both teams. There was only one homerun the whole game, and it was hit off the guy who throws over 100mph.

3. We blew our #1 ranking - not likely if we take care of business this weekend. Midweek games are mostly meaningless, and baseball is a long season. Voters know that.

UT was always going to lose some games. They will likely lose more. As easy as they have been making it look, baseball is a hard game. I really wish our fans could just enjoy the incredible season this time is putting together, instead of whining about ridiculous crap. Sorry.

Rant over.

Totally agree. Some of the fans reaction to this game are truly embarrassing. Baseball can be a weird sport at times and today proved that. We didn’t play our game, but you gotta give TTU credit. We swung at a lot of bad pitches tonight and at the end of the day that’s nobody’s fault but ours. Only thing that truly matters is SEC play and getting to Omaha, and last time I checked we’re still 12-0 in conference. Some people need to step off the ledge.

Yes... Tennessee fans will overreact to it.

However, there is nothing wrong with expressing the sentiment that it's a shame to see such an impressive streak end with a gimmicky-type game. Is it a big deal? Of course not, but it should be understandable as to why it won't sit well with some people.

Yawn...thanks for sharing. I've not seen a lot of fan overreaction. Maybe you've been storing that up. I figured they'd lose at some point this season. Now to TTU isn't too bad a time I guess.

You are so wrong for your post.

It hurt my feelings when I saw the score. I watched the replay after knowing we lost, that made me mad.

Location I don’t have an issue.

Wooden bats, I say any player planning to go to the MLB, use wooden bats. Sell the scrap to fans, don’t just throw it in the trash.

Blew out #1. That’s an uninformed opinion.

Someone already mentioned that we swung at a lot of bad pitches. Honestly, doesn’t it make that pitch nasty? Was that a slider or a curve?

Nothing wrong with being upset over a loss as a fan.

Don’t hate the fans, hate the way they behave when we lose. I’m kind of a sore loser my self. After a loss, I always try to be nice in the meanest way possible.

OK. So let me make sure I have this right; Tennessee baseball is ranked number 1 for the first time ever. They play an exhibition game up at Smokies Stadium, and lose. Some of the fans near you are upset and start popping their mouths. And you expected them not to react like that?

News flash: Every fan base is going to have fans like that. I am going to assume that those you encountered? Most were probably attending a Tennessee baseball game for the very first time.

I look at it like this: At least they are finally giving a damn about Vols Baseball. Noting you are 51 and I am 61? Yeah, I would probably still be as upset as you were. In 10 years, if the world is still turning? You will hear rants again, and then? You will have gotten to the point I am now; This crap is normal, and completely predictable. And not worth raising our blood pressure over.

I haven't seen any rants. Just disappointment in the loss, which is expected. If anyone is having a rant moment, it's OP. Baseball is a long season, this won't hurt us, and we move on. I'm not near as concerned about losing this mid-week, somewhat meaningless game as I would be about losing this upcoming series to Bama. That's far more important and this loss isn't worth pissing into the wind over.

Every one of your points is accurate.

Bad title for a thread, but I get your point.

I couldn't agree more on all accounts. The Cliff Jumpers are comical to frustrating. But it's what makes up Volnation. It creates the passion and the intensity of the butts in the seats. Every now and then, grab an Orange Clad Cliff Jumper, givem a hug, fistbump beer, snack, or slap, and sing Rocky Top. GBO.

I get it. They’re the same fans who dog Joe Milton every chance they get (while thinking Harrison Bailey should have started), bitch about Rick Barnes’ salary as if they pay it, and go out of their way to show their ignorance. We have some ignorant fans. And it’s fine if one is ignorant. There are things about which we are all ignorant…but acknowledge it and don’t take every opportunity to put it on display.

I’d rather it end in a gimmicky type game than against Alabama.

For the record I was disappointed, but not bent out-of-shape at all. It’s baseball. I’m not sure how talented their pitcher was, but certainly he was the smartest player on the field last night. He just kept spinning curve balls, most down and out of the zone, and we kept swinging. He threw just enough strikes to make his plan effective. Kudos to a guy who handcuffed us with a great plan he executed to a “T”. Learn and grow. Move on.

What was it Coach Majors used to say? Something to the effect "it's better for people to think you're ignorant than to open your mouth and prove 'em correct."
