I Hate Posting On Here, But.............

Tn Football is like life my young friends, it's a cycle, and the sooner you accept that fact, the sooner you can get on with your life. TN will be back, we always have and we always will. Those of you that don't believe that, don't know crap about TN football.

I agree it's hard to see fellow Vol fans being so critical about a program we all love. But, this is a discussion forum and I think it's ok to discuss the various changes that may jump start UT into the positive side of the cycle. Not saying I know what it is, but there has to be a catalyst to stop the downward curve in the cycle and send it on the upward swing again. When the discusssion becomes bashing, I just ignore it (at least I try to anyway). The beating we took Saturday is just adding fuel to a fire that has been lit for several years now. I agree, we will comeback with a vengence. Nobody knows exactly when. Patience is a virtue, and for some it takes a lifetime to learn to lead a virtuous life (BTW I'm still working on it myself). Some never do and it's those folks that are quick to become bashers and not healthy debaters.

GO VOLS!

I don't post very often and I'm a man of few words(until now). As I read all these posts about firing Fulmer, problems with our team, who's the best candidate for our new coach, ad nauseum, blah, blah, blah,.......

All I know is that after following TN football for half a century(that's 50 years for the folks from Cocke, Claiborne and Roane counties) is that when it's time to play GA, AL,SC, and whoever the Vols are playing this year, at that point in time, I'm excited again. I've seen too much over the years not to be excited.

You are much more eloquent than I am, well said. I guess most on this board expect immediate gratification, life doesn't work like that, somewhat more complicated than "high speed internet".

I do not expect instant gratification. The truth is the program has been in a slow descent since the 2001 SECCG.

I know how college football is a cyclical thing. Look at what happened at Miami and Oklahoma in the mid 90's.

Enter Butch Davis and Bob Stoops. All I want as a fan is a team that contends every Saturday, not one that gets outcoached from the 1st quarter on.

Most aren't bashing the program...just the coach - a huge difference IMO. People are pissed because we love the VOLS and want to see them do good, not face-plant. I think it's great to see people be very vocal and adamant about seeing the VOLS do good.

I don't see a lot of program bashing. What I was referring to was coach bashing like Phil jokes and other comments that have no relevance to the ability to lead a football team.

I see what slobberknocker is saying...Starting with NEYLAND (he peaked in the late 30s) and then started a trek downward after he returned from WW II...Seems like it peaked again sometime in the mid 50s and didnt peak until Dickey in the late 60s...bill Battle brought us back down and JM took us to a peak say in the mid/late 80s, early 90s, where Phil took us even higher....now, we are back down.

To me, thats a sign a change is needed...I cant think of a coach that was coaching for 2 different peaks (unless maybe Neyland did)

For everything Fulmer has done, I am grateful. But sometimes its time to bow out. I think he should. If we win out GREAT. But losing to FL always ruins the season. Then we got the others to contend with. I just hope that when Fulmer does depart, we get someone new. No promote from within. Get someone that will grab this bull by the horns and run with it.

Just a question for the group! When Fulmer replaced Majors, what was the situation? Was the team winning games? What caused the change??? Is it being repeted now?

Yes and NO. Majors would get a 7 point lead and get conservative. But hey at least we were leading some...lol But it has that feel to it.....Change always has its indicators.

This is exactly why I hate to post, all I'm saying is that the new cycle is beginning and at the end of this year(or the next) Fulmer is probably gone. However, if by some miracle, Fulmer wins out, all you "know it alls" will be singing his praises.

You said it... it would take a miracle/magic dust for us to win out.

From what I remember about that 92 season, Fulmer had us 3-0 and everybody was high as a kite because of it (wins over UGA and UF)...Then Majors announced he would return to the sidelines earlier than what Doctors would have liked (I think its because he felt Fulmer was stealing his thunder) and we proceeded to lose 3 of the next 5.

I think the loss to Bama is what sealed his fate. Dickey announced that Majors would NOT be retained at the end of the season. JM pitched a fit, finished the reg season and said he wasnt coaching any bowl game. Fulmer goes 4-0 for the year and teh rest is history

Yeah... that 50 year TN/USC rivalry brings back some memories.

I see the same people posting what the record would be after 3 games now calling for a regemine change since they were right. I'm not drinking the orange kool-aid, but we kinda knew we might be in this position. Are we happy about it, of course not, but I think we should see where it goes from here. Guys, I saw us lose to Florida in the 90's quite a bit and now we do it here. Three years after our worse loss to Florida we won the N.C. I know it's a stretch but it gets annoying on this board pulling up the same thread no matter what forum you pick.

39 point losses, 5-6 seasons, and losing insignificant bowl games to unranked teams has that effect on some fans I guess.

Miss Teen South Carolina has a greater chance of discovering the cure for cancer than Fulmer has of winning out.

"I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and I believe that our education, like such as South Africa and The Iraq everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here in the US should help the US, er, should help South Africa, and should help The Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our …"

Hmmm Losing to SC was never a sticking point on Majors career at UT (especially considering that was the first year SC was an SEC school)...but I know he took a lot of flack for NOT being able to beat Bama.

If you wanna know why CPF may have been around as long as he has its because he DOES beat bama. It has to do with the old money being given to the university.
