It is offensive to all right-minded football sensibilities.
We've had the same problems with the "throw-game" for four years now. Didn't matter with Gatorade AA Worley back there or Dobbs. Dobbs can work on his accuracy but I think, for the most part, it's the other aspects of the "throw-game" that are broken - LoS pass protection, route running, catching the football all the way to the ground. You know, basic football stuff that is generally coached.
As bad as the scheme is for the "throw-game" it's the run game though that is truly offensive. If I never see a slow-developing, shotgun-read-zone-option-y-banana-2-11-omaha again I'll die a happy man. I cannot stand watching Jalen Hurd get the football from standstill.
Hurd is so great, IMHO, because he has created almost all of his yards ON HIS OWN for three seasons now. The Northwestern I-formations were beautiful, things of beauty. We've got the second incarnation of Earl Campbell and he gets the football at zero starting velocity. SMDH.
I'm assuming that with this veteran team we actually did work on new wrinkles on the offense in camp. It almost backfired on the BSiA but sticking to the Butch-standard playbook has not shown our hand.
We'll know a lot more next week.
I will say this - Butch has assembled a team for three years now that should beat the incarnation of the Florida Gators we have seen for the last three years (including this year). He hasn't done it. If he can't do it this year, the BSiA need to make way for Team Gruden. There is no way the BSiA has Don Mahoney and Coach Azz though, IMHO.
