I get tired of UT fans being portrayed as lacking patience

UT has some talent, but not very deep at all and not on the lines, which is the foundation of how Florida in '06, to be frank, got lucky. The notion that the talent on the '09 UT squad is in the same universe as the '06 Gator team left to Meyer is asinine.

It will not always be that way, but UT is two years away from being able to say it has 2 and 3 guys deep on the Oline, which is what matters in the short run.

You will get there soon enough, but it is highly unlikely that it will be in 2009.

Nah. You held onto Fulmer for about six years past his expiration date. Kiffin will get three or four years ot show some progress and I think he will, easily.

Y'know, lg, I have to say...even with you being a Gator fan...and Lord knows we have butted heads in the past...but your post is dead on. For the first time, ever, if memory serves, I completely agree with every word.

There may be hope for you yet.

Being a fan makes you pretty much become a delusional homer. In the back of your mind you realize what's likely and what's not, but you still in a sense force yourself to believe what you want. That doesn't mean we will be calling for Kiffin's head if he doesn't reach our hopes.

I'm sure Gay Nation thought they'd win a league title at some point in the half century before they won their first one. And they, back then, were no more delusional than our fans are now. More rude and guido, yes, but not any more delusional.

You have only to read this board for proof that a certain segment of the Vol fanbase will be very impatient. There are people actually predicting that UT will beat Florida this year, just because of the coaching change!

Look, its a 60 minute game and anything can happen. There's always a chance. But you are talking about a team that has won two national championships in three years, blew out UT the last two years, returns its entire defense (which was pretty good this year), plus retains Tebow and plenty of skill position talent. And the game is in Gainseville.

Its not impossible, surely. But to actually proclaim it likely that UT wins that game? That is just irrational.

Thanks for the kind words.

I do think UT made the critical step it had to make to give itself a chance to get back in the thick of things in the SECE, which of course is Part I of the Master Plan. Keeping Fulmer would have just doomed UT to another year, and another year, and another year, of frustration and acceptance of mediocrity.

I think it fair to say that the jury is still out on Kiffin. Certainly, between he and the university's commitment to moving in a new direction and investing in bringing in top notch assistant coaches and going after the best talent they can, you have great reason for optimism.

But it will not happen overnight. I am not bragging on the Gators to say that UT has a lot of catching up to do. Its just the way it is at the moment.

Step 2 involves Urban moving along to ND where he'll flop and the Gators won't take him back either.

UT will likely lose to UF, but will split with UGA/Bama---not bad for LK's first year, with little talent.

No, I want Urban to stay. And Saban...and Spurrier. I want them to stay long enough for Kiffin to prove that he can, or can't beat them.

The last thing I want is to have to listen to UF, Bama, or USCe fans say "Kiffin never beat Meyer / Saban / Spurrier", should any of those three leave in the next two or three seasons.

Kiffin said he came here, in part, because it was the best (toughest) conference in college football. I think he can compete, and I want to see him do it. Against the best the conference can offer.
