I get it

This wasn't about a singular event. This wasn't only about Schiano and Penn State.

It was about Kiffin. It was about Dooley. It was about Jones.

But, it was also about Pearl, Cuonzo and Tyndall.

It was about Delmonico, Raleigh and Serrano.

It was about the tragic end of the Pat Summit era and watching that program slowly be just another SEC team under Holly. A good team for sure, but not what once was.

It was about an athletic program that arguably is currently inferior to Vanderbilt.

It was about finishing 13th overall in the SEC men's all-sports standings for 2016-17. It's about not producing a men's SEC championship team since 2011 men's tennis.

It was about an athletic program that has failed and disappointed time and again. And through it all, people continued to cheer, support, travel, pay and hope.....only to be lied to, let down, and forced to endure.

But, this time would be different. The President of the school changed. The athletic director changed. All of the past failure was well documented. It could not be repeated. It would not be repeated. This time it was going to be different.

And then it wasn't.

And the people, who only have their voices, stood up and said "hell no". As many have pointed out, it united this fan base like nothing else in a decade. Everyone agreed. Everyone had enough. "Hell no". In a matter of a few hours, the push back was so strong that those in power had no choice but to listen.

I know that Tennessee fans are catching hell in some places, but I can only put myself in your shoes and say "I get it".

Amazing you get it why can’t the media get it... ? Thanks 99 you understand completely

It was the biggest damn let down hire... i freaking it saw it coming. But i didn't want to believe it... but i didn't claim to have an inside source or that i heard a rumor or anything like that.... I just thought a Schiano hire would just be the "tennessee thing to do". 99gator, that's what really sucks. On our third ad in 10 years and we still make wet toilet paper lame hires and choices.

I'm sure you understand, because the Gators are in a similar position:)

We've changed a lot of faces on the hill but we still have the same family making ALL of the decisions. They hired the president and AD and then ordered them to hire Shiano with no other input, ignoring the other boosters and fan base the same way they have with all the bad hires you listed.

There are business and professional relationships at stake within the boosters, so it's going to play out behind closed doors for a bit. How long is anyones guess. But what is clear is that in addition to the fan outrage, there is outrage amongst the boosters that have been shorted a seat at the table for far too long. They are pushing back.

I, for one, would love to know who the boosters are that are finally standing up to the Haslam monopoly on UT. I think we will find out, because Jimmy isn't going to let go of his total control of UT easily. I guess for pride and probably financial reasons, because he's already turned UT into the Cleveland Browns South.

Really appreciate your understanding of how we feel gator!

However, there's zero chance this offer was actually pulled because of the fanbase's reaction. There must be much more going on behind the scenes than we can see. Somebody (or somebodies) with power stopped this hire. The narraitve being pushed by the media is a bit naive and un-realistic.

this is naive.

the news about schiano signing the paperwork was leaked by boosters that hoped something like this would happen. as fans got going, more boosters chimed in....then the state politicians....

then they caved. it was a culmination of all of it happening in the matter of about 3 hours.

It was about Currie promising us a big coach. Then trolling us for weeks.

Then bringing out a coach worse than Butch Jones while letting the big fish go.

Not to mention who the coach was and his background.

Actually, was an assistant AD that had already told Currie this isn't a good idea.

If anything, the fan outrage gave the boosters cover to start pushing back against the total control of the Haslams.

Other than your choice of team, you've always been alright 99. You are correct. What was so sickening was that CUrrie played this so close to his vest like he had just hooked the hire of the century and then we get the bull crap that we got yesterday. Currie needs to go.

Fans, lawmakers, boosters all stopped this.

Makes one happy to be living in 2017.

I don't think anything like that is possible before social media.

But, it really, and I am not kidding here, is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.....forget sports.

We can't get people to agree on anything in the country anymore. If you had a poll asking "Is food good", at least 25% would say "No".

For that many people, to that quickly and forcefully, demonstrate their opinion on something was pretty special.

It was somewhat scary too, I'll admit.

We have a winner! This university doesn't care what the fans think AT ALL. Look how they treat their alumni. We're all know-nothing idiots. This was an inner circle war between Ergen and Haslam. The whole of Volnation actually thought we had something to do with this offer being withdrawn. I do not now believe it at all. But it was exciting while it was going down. I wrote a number of posts, but it was all for naught.

I have no social media besides being on this site. I had seen the Schiano being interviewed report and took it as Jimmy Sexton getting him a raise. Once I read that UT and Schiano was close to a deal I went straight to twitter, made an account and started blowing up twitter accounts.

All the UT Admin, Knoxville Mayors, TN Lawmakers.

99Gator lays it out beautifully.
Mind if I forward this to President DiPietro, Chancellor Davenport and AD Currie?
Can I put it in a Christmas card to the Haslams?
