I get it.....but, it's over.

The football program I've loved for so many years, just committed suicide, nothing to do but mourn:cray:

I completely understood the reaction to the hiring of Schiano and don’t take back a thing I wrote when I said “I get it”.

The point of a gesture like that one was to send a message to the administration of what you’re looking for and what you demand from them.

However, you’re screwed. They didn’t get the hint. They are incompetent morons and doubled down on stupid. Beyond that, they decided to broadcast their failure as even BigVolDaddy has turned down the job. It was a worth a shot, but you can’t fix that problem before this search is through.

And at this point, no matter what you do…..no matter how many tweets you send…..no matter what you paint the rock…..no matter what you chant at a basketball game…..this will not end well.

You tried. But, it’s over. No one you want is going to take this job. Worse, someone you don’t want is going to be significantly overpaid in order to accept the job. No coach wants to take a job where neither the administration nor the fans wanted them. And on top of that, the people in the administration that you answer to may not have a job 5 minutes after you are hired.

I’m sorry.

When it's said and done Vol fans will be like this

You are missing the point just like everyone else. This is about more than just a coach. This is a fight against an administration that has bent this fan base over for 10yrs+ with bad decisions and complete ineptitude time after time.

Have you seen their proposed $340M stadium remodel? They are removing a large section of the best seats in the house for field level boxes for corporate sponsors and boosters. They don't give a rat's ass about the atmosphere of the stadium or the fans they are screwing over to do this. Some of those fans have had the same tickets since the 50's man.

This search has put our admins ineptitude on public display, but instead of calling them out on it, the national media is railing the fanbase. Blaming us, the congregation, for the bad decisions the leaders of our church are making. If we just let them continue forward and make decisions based on the same ideas and principals as they have been then we will not see anything change in the future.

In the meantime, we're sucking all the oxygen out of the room. Nobody whose made a decent hire is getting much credit and there's been very little coverage of the teams playing in the SECCG. As they say in showbiz, any press is good press.

This is a fact. It is SEC Championship week, Tennessee finished 0-8 in the conference, and the national media is talking about Tennessee. Not bad....

He doesn't care. He just uses the opportunity to tell you why you suck and feel better about himself. It's his thing.

I am impressed by your posts, however, I still have faith in the man upstairs. Anything is possible when you have faith, and I ain’t heard the whistle yet.

The biggest faux pas was Currie thinking he could pull this off without a search firm. Ironic that he requires an experienced coach, yet he has no experience hiring one.

At this juncture it appears that Mr. Currie is only accomplishing one thing...and that’s to help strengthen the negotiating power of “coaches of interest.” He’s definitely helping coaches he’s interviewed increase their salaries.
Currie is in way over his head.

Still holding out for them to go after a name that the fans like. If rumors come out and the fans are jumping for joy I can't imagine a decent coach saying no.

If your AD had been fool enough to offer Schiano the Gator job you'd have done the same damn thing......I hope.

Good post my faithful friend. My fear is that, having now shot himself twice in each foot (and basically being only the bagman) it's hard to see how we get a quality hire if it has to go through the current AD. Having an ambitious corporate lawyer type for AD may not be the best prescription for success in SEC football...

it's not about who takes this job at this point. that ship sailed on Sunday. anyone who didn't think that Sunday was going to seriously devalue this job right now was delusional. (not aimed at you).

what we're seeing now is the article about how the administration hamstrung assistant salaries under CBJ.

the 4 part series about the real reasons why Sunday happened.

i can't make people read these things, but anyone that would like to know why this isn't over, and why it isn't about a single coach, would do well to read this, in particular the Peter King article on Haslam and the Browns from 2014. we really aren't a bunch of blithering, toothless red necks ready to "fahr" everyone.

Really good read!

and this article about how spending was capped for assistants under CBJ.

Sources: Tennessee restricted Butch Jones' spending on coaching staff

i would hope that more stuff like this starts to flow as more people start to ask "why".

nobody wants this. it's ugly. it's messy. and it's certainly not fun. and it will set us back. and it's most certainly removed some options for a coach.

but if it paves the way for any real change on The Hill, then it's worth it.

He's right. We're done. Kansas East is our new nickname. Come watch Jimmy the Pirate's Volhawks in their annual slugfest with Kentucky.

No way, he's a great coach and our fanbase bullied him! Just look how many other teams are beating down the door to get him.
