Same group of idiotic fans that are posting all this garbage right would look completely different if this was the case.

- Janzen head screwed on straight and still on team. Hunter healthy. Bray healthy. Lathers healthy. Our only two losses would probably be to Alambama and LSU. Those games would have been probably partially competitive.

"Dooley for SEC coach of the year"
"Dooley is going to get us to the promise land"
"Cant believe we found this diamond in the rough, Dooley is da man"
"SEC Champs next season, Dooley was the answer"

Its hilarious how many people have no perspective and have no critical reasoning skills. Not that it matters to anybody. But the drivel is getting to annoying that I think I am going to confine myself to the recruiting forum and just read updates on our recruiting. You know the Top 10 class we are about to pull in with HALF OF IT being EE's. Yep, sinking ship I tell ya. We are just a sinking ship.

What's disappointing is that when I think about it, I feel like we really could have won all of our games except LSU and Alabama....
Here I was thinking that last season had some bad moments....

Not true. We wouldn't have beat UGA, SC, and Florida without a run game. Maybe one of those teams.

UT would have beaten UF had Hunter not gone down. One the play he was hurt he had a 3 yard cushion AGAINST DOUBLE COVERAGE. I don't think many people here realize how big of a hit his injury was to the O. He is a guy that opposing DC's have to gameplan for... and it still might not work.

This place needs about 3 threads right now:

1) The "Bash Dooley/Hire Another coach/Bash the Dool-Aid drinkers" Thread.
2) The "Dooley is the Right Guy/Will Lead us to the NC in x years/needs more time/Bash negavols" thread
3) A thread for those that aren't calling for Dooley's head yet aren't ready to declare him the long term answer yet.

I lost count on how many thread could be merged into either 1 or 2.

I'll go with an optimistic "two". I think we'd of beat UGA and USC but not Florida. They dominated us.

The positive side of all this is we got see how capable Chaney really is. There isn't an OC in the country that would look bad with Bray, Hunter, Rogers, Rivera... then again, even with all those guys we were not able to run the ball as you pointed out despite returning our entire OL and RB.

I wasn't too worried about the run game with everyone healthy. I mean who could blame the guy for wanting to throw the ball more with weapons like that? But right now we have basically the same personell on the field that we had most of last year and we are worse at running the ball.

If there was a "red flag" smilie I'd insert it here.

Despite the bashing and rage against the negavols, I still find the ratio of homers to negavols on VN to still be about 10/1, even in a year like this

What is the definition of a homer, exactly? Is one given to facts a homer, or is it just the blind allegiance to the program that ascribes homer-ish qualities? Here are the facts I work off of:

1. We are incredibly young
2. We have very, very little depth
3. Our coach is learning on the job (scary)
4. Our 5 best players are hurt, played professional baseball 2 years ago or liked marijuana and are no longer here
5. Our starting MLB is a converted FB
6. Our two OLB are true freshmen
7. We don't have a corner that runs anything better than a 4.6
8. We have 1.5 playmakers at WR and 1 of those are hurt
9. We have a converted TE/OL now starting at NT.
10. We have one of the 5 most difficult schedules in the country
11. We have nothing resembling a pass rush off the edge

With all that considered, I'm okay with where we're at. With that in mind, what did Dooley really inherit other than a trainwreck? He needs to figure it out next year, but to judge on last year and this is a bit harsh, IMO.

I do not consider this receiving Corp anything like last years even as good as DR can be. Losing those 3 senior receivers hurt.

Nagavols - "Dooley should be fired"
Homers - "We will beat UGA by 2 TDs"

It's not an exact science

Very, very well said. Even though this season hurts, I agree 100%.

LOL, fair enough. So with the art you employ (and deftly, I might add), what percentage of this board is comprised of realists and not Negavols or Homers?

I'd be inclined to say around 30%...

Realists tend to get branded negavols, but thereis a difference. I'd say realists, with varying degrees of optimism and pessimism probably make up the majority of the board. On Mondays after a loss, 70% Negavols, Friday before a game, 70% homers :)

Good post. Should be pinned at the top of the board so everyone can see. This is pretty much it.

Lol so true. Everyone wants something to be positive about even the biggest doubters. To me it's how the poster handles the adversities they see that shows if they are glass half full or half empty types. Been plenty of adversity this year to use as a barometer. I like DD a lot but he hasn't given his doubters much cause to shut up. His circumstances haven't really afforded him a lot of easy opportunities too either though.

With all that is going on, with a little better luck, we would have been in much better shape.
Last season ended with a 6 -7 record. Had we beaten LSwho & UNC, we are a respectible 8 - 5, with a bowl victory.
This season, we end the regular season with a 6 - 6 record. Had we not had injuries to Ben Martin, who is playing but not to his former level, Lathers, Hunter, Bray & now Brewer.
With any better luck, this season, we win against UGA. Bray plays against USC and we win. We hang close with Florida and have a chance to beat them at the end. Our record would now be 5 - 3 or 6 - 2, had we beaten Florida.
Luck plays a big part in the outcome of a game. For instance, had the UAB kicker made even one of his chip shot field goals, we would have lost to UAB last season. We were lucky to get our of that game with a victory!!!!
Once a few things start going our way, rather than going against our way, we will squeak out these close games.

You are ok with us not beating a good team since what South Carolina, Kiffin's year? I am not saying fire Dooley yet but to me he is not the guy and will never do better than 8 wins. This team does have talent, eventually he has to out coach some one. Can't keep using the same old excuses every week.
