Guys, they went to North Dakota St-Incarnate Word over OU-UT last year. OU-UT was the best available P5-P5 game, but they chose to go watch an FCS powerhouse play against a team in their 4th game AS A PROGRAM...
They won't pass up Mich St-Oregon.
Oklahoma-Tennessee was considered a bad mismatch last year. Top 10 program against a team expected to go roughly 6-6. No one would recommend that for a GameDay visit.
This year Tennessee is in a completely different place. There's simply no comparison.
I wonder where they'd set up. The spot three years ago is pretty much being sold as a tailgating tent city now. Maybe back to the TBA ramp. Humanities Plaza has room, but doesn't offer up the stadium as a backdrop.
The spot 3 years ago is perfect. Plenty of shade. Neyland backdrop. Surely that's where they'll set up again. People can tailgate anywhere.
Do people really care if damn shows up anymore?
Close call IMO.
If Tennessee blows out Bowling Green and the hype train gets rolling down hill then maybe.
Michigan St. Vs. Oregon is a pretty solid match up. They need a reason to pass on it. Oregon not being as good this year is a good reason to pass.
Vol fans checkering the Titans stadium could get their attention.
Yeah, don't care at all about Fowler (no longer with GameDay, btw) or Corso, they can shove off.
But the national exposure for the campus and program is huge. Don't know enough to say that it helps with recruiting, but it certainly can't hurt for middle school and high school athletes to see it on their screen Saturday morning.
On top of that, the revenue for the city is nice. Couple of hundred big spenders in town above and beyond those who would show up for the game anyway. Dunno if the university makes anything off the visit, but that'd be more icing on the cake.
Bottom line: go to hell, Corso, but thanks for spending money here on your way.![]()
