One angle I haven't heard on the coaching issue is...
Suppose CPF decided to retire in 1999 and you hired a new coach starting the 2000 season. This coach stayed around through this point in the 2008 season with the following record:
74-37 (67% win pct)
Avg 8 wins per season
13-24 against tier 1 teams
no BCS bowl bids
no SEC championships
1 top ten season
finished outside top 25 in either of major polls 5 of 9 seasons
1-10 against top 10 at home with avg margin defeat 17+
Is there any way on earth that guy could possibly keep his job over nearly a decade to produce said statistics?
