I would love for the Vols to play any of those teams.

The team I wouldn't want to see is any Div 1-AA team.
OS....i actually agree with you on this. bring 'em on i say!!!
Also, anyone who can't figure out that Florida played so much better against OSU than anyone else on their schedule should stop watching college football. .
uh, yeah, i'd agree with that.......that was the best game Florida has played in several years.

It doesn't matter if I "do" or "don't" want them on our schedule, but here are "just a couple" of teams than concern me for 2007:

at Cal
at Florida
Georgia
at Alabama (now)
South Carolina
Arkansas

Scary to think, but Arkansas and SC now must be added to the list of scary games and scratched from the "certain W" collumn. Anybody who can't imagine the possibility of 3-5 losses from the above needs to pass me the Orange Aid.

i don't disagree with that..........but...........

Cal and Ark probably won't be the same teams we played last year. I like our chances in both......and ARK is kind of a mess right now.

Bama still has a lot to prove with the current talent on hand, and must grow up. short term, i expect Bama to still be a little bit above average to average. long term, it certainly looks better for them.

SC could be the most improved team on our schedule next season.

Georgia....will be better next season, but how much better?

Florida loses a lot on Defense, but they will not suck. and being at Gainesville.....oof.

not saying one way or the other for sure, but the only game i'd pencil in a L right now on is the FL game. the others we are capable of winning. i don't think we will win them all though, and i don't think we'll lose them all either. 8-4/9-3 for 07

Now we've got to play freakin' Georgia. At least we got to drop Florida.

That Florida played their most impressive game of the year against the Buckeyes was at least partially due to the fact that the OSU defense wasn't as stout as advertised.

That OSU played its worst game since Iowa in 2004 was also at least partially due to the fact that they were playing a superior team that shut them down entirely.

Eight first downs, 1 of 9 on third down conversions, half as many offensive plays, and less than 100 yards total offense isn't a bad game it is being dominated. I think I will continue to watch college football thanks.

The "Alabama will be world beater next season" posts are cracking me up. I give Saban respect for the job he did at LSU. But, Alabama has a good ways to go before becoming an elite program. Could they beat UT next season? Sure they could. But I would not call it likely. And, it is certainly not the game that scares me most.

Let's be honest here. We played the two best teams in the country, IMO, in Florida and LSU. They both outplayed us, LSU moreso than UF, but both needed a good bit of fortune to actually win the games. Granted, they were in our house, but that has mattered little to our squad over the past several years. We have the talent to play with anyone in the country week-in and week-out. I don't like where the program is today any more than anyone else, but I like our talent stacked up against just about anyone. Our coaching and preparation, that's an entirely different issue and easily accounts for our inablity to win close and / or big games.

I'll be honest here. LSU dominated us. I know the score suggests otherwise but they had over 500 yards of offense and limited us to about 300. If they don't turn the ball over 5 times they beat us by 30 points.

Florida, while they only beat us by 1, if you watched the game as I assume most or all did. I don't think that game was very close either. We had NEGATIVE rushing yards and they had over 100. They did whatever they wanted on offense when they needed too.

I think that those 2 games show exactly how far off we are. If you look at the entire game and not just the score we were manhandled in my opinion (you don't have to agree and I'm not asking you too)

Just my :twocents:

Agreed big time. Those 2 games showed a pretty big talent gap between UT and the top tier teams in the SEC, especially on defense.

That said, I think the current recruiting class is a huge step in the right direction as far as talent goes.

I agree, I think they are overrated by themselves and others.

In the SEC, they have about the 5th best talent, 4th best coach, and number 1 in ego.

I will say this now: barring injuries or a freak occurence, Alabama will beat Tennessee in 2007.

Doesn't surprise me... But not on talent alone. It will be a mix of home field advantage and coaching.

You'll probably be surprised by how talented they will be next season. The 2006 Alabama squad was pretty dang young, and if Shula wasn't fired, even HE would have won at least 9 games. Wilson is a good QB, and I think with an even better coach, he'll end being a GREAT QB. The offensive line stunk for them, and they only lose Ken Darby, while good, can be replaced with a stable of fast backs they already have.

The defense wasn't nearly as good as the 2005 unit, but the 2007 one will be solid enough for Saban to surpass 9 victories, and possibly a showing in the SEC Title game.

I disagree, they are better than last year, but I think they will lose at least two but I think three out of the 5 to Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

If they do make it to the SEC championship I think that Florida would beat them if they met.

Of course you do. Everyone will think that. Alabama wasn't even a blip on the radar in 2004 when they went 10-2. Arkansas was terrible in 2004 before they went to the SECCG in 2005. Alabama gets 4 of the 5 you mention IN Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Just because they were bad last year doesn't mean they will be good last year.. There does seem to always be a darkhorse... My darkhorse is South Carolina, but not Bama.

I never said or even implied if a team were bad the year prior, that they would improve. You were implying if a team was bad, a team stays bad.

South Carolina is a great choice as a darkhorse. I'm currently writing a piece for my blog about the 2007 SEC East being a 5 horse race, so I'm with ya.

That being said, I'm putting the Alabama stuff on the platter now, so I can A) bask in my glory if I'm right 8 months out, or B) use my January excuse for a bad prediction. :)

I agree that Alabama can rise quickly next year, but I don't think that they will make the SECCG. I think in 2008 they will have a great shot, but I'm usually a little skeptical of first year coaches.

By the way I would love to read your blog.

WILL.......WILL???? surely not. i'm not ruling anything out, but the bama game is one that we are perfectly capable of winning.

all very good points. Bama will be improved, but no one looks at Bama like they do Arkansas, bad or not, as bammers would tell you..........they're still ALABAMA....

Bama has question marks, just as we do, headed in to next season. this game to me is one of the toss ups....
