I don't understand. . .

Guys don't kick me off the nation, but I do root for Vandy when they are not playin the Vols. I think it is an underdog thing.

i won't give you any flack about it. as long as you don't pull for the inbreds and the gators.

Last time in Florida I crossed 3 lanes of heavy traffic to hit a gator sunbathing by the road. The lawsuit is still pending.

nothing against you, but i despise miami with an absolute passion. if you've seen the character their teams have displayed on the field the last few years, you'll understand.

Which is strange, considering Miami is one of the top private schools in the US. Their football team paints a bad picture of how the university actually is.

There is a guy in town here that drives around with abig gator sign in his back window. I told him he should take it down or someone would probably knock it out. He said "I'll take my chances". I don't know what happened, but I know he had a cold ride to work...:naughty:

Somewhat, and could be. However, I don't intend on jumping off when, and if, USC has a 4-8 season.

Which means that by the time you're 40, you're going to have a list of favorite teams as long as your arm.

Just once I'd like to see a frontrunner cheerfully admit it. "Yeah, I like them because they're an exciting team and they win a lot. And if their coach were to go somewhere else and they started losing all the time, I doubt I'd think they were still interesting and I probably wouldn't spend much time following them anymore." I'd have a heck of a lot more respect for that than all the excuse-making and protesting that frontrunners usually do.

I've drawn the line at 4.

Go visit their campus and drive around town nearby and see if your perspective changes.

nobody seems to care...accept you. and yeah, its a noticeable difference, when you have 4 more counties. so that's 1.5 minus 1.25 equals 250,00 divided by four counties equals...come on...that's right, 62,500. so if memphis decides to inflate its metro population, thats isn't much to beat. besides, your population is actually probably a lot bigger with all the illegal's there now and all. and i agree with what you said 'Most people that grew up when Memphis was bigger just don't realize it', thats kinda like most people don't realize the crime in nashville is worse than in memphis now.

A. Why do you care...at all
B. You look like an idiot. I was in Memphis last July and a news report said the homicide total had passed 100 for the year. They compared it to other Tennessee cities. Nashville had 33. Are you serious?
C. Metropolitan Statistical Areas are not created by the cities. They are created by the Census Bureau. Nashville or Memphis cannot "inflate" their populations. They are made based on population density and based on the number of people employed in the city. There is no better way to measure it. Atlanta has like 28 counties because there are so many people that they are forced to spread out. But those areas around Atlanta have high population densities BECAUSE OF ATLANTA, so they are part of the Atlanta area. The same is true everywhere. Everyone uses these measurements. Nashville is bigger than Memphis.
D. Nashville's population is bigger because no one wants to live in Memphis. That is why Nashville has been growing much faster than Memphis has. Stop it.

Same. Partly because I'm in Nashville too. Most Tennessee fans don't hate Vandy as much as Alabama or Florida though.

I understand. It's sort of like how if you live in the state of GA and you're not a UGA fan, you automatically pull for Ga Tech just for the heck of it.

I guess. . .I could see myself following another team if I moved there, but not being a real "fan" i.e. I wouldn't feel the need to go onto their message board and post all my frustrations after they lost :)

haha
"hi fellow huskies. im originally from TN and lived and died with the vols. but now since i move to washington, im a UW fan. who is going to the purple and gold game? do u think we can beat State this year? Ty willingham got a raw deal!"
Naw cant see it i have other teams that i like but if they played Tn. the F em. like aTm a few yrs ago. before Franchyphony took their dignity. once a bamer troll always a bamer troll.

UGA fans pretty much drive you into the arms of the Jackets whether you want to be there or not.

It's really true. I'm not even sure Tech has actual alumni fans . . . just a bunch of anti-UGA fans banded together in common hatred.

I was predisposed towards rooting for Tech anyway because I came very, very close to coming down here as an undergrad. But it really was the UGA fans who nailed it down for me. I had no idea what they were like until I moved to Atlanta. It didn't take very long before the Tech/UGA rivalry seemed like Good vs Evil even to an outsider like me.

I have a handful of Tech-alum friends who all graduated in the last four or five years, and they're all amused about how much support they get from all the UT, UF, and Auburn fans in town. It really says something about UGA that they can inspire such solidarity in such a wide range of their rivals.
