Watching MNF and ESPN's scroll says Fulmer "accepted the University's decision."

Did he resign?

Was he fired?

he accepted the decision his boss made that he should no longer be the HC.

Yes, that's how I took it. But when I quit reading about it around 3 or so it seemed to be that he had made the decision on his own and the ESPN scroll made me do a double take.

He said something like, he and the university had the same goals, to rebuild the program, but disagreed on the best way to do it. (i..e., I want to be HC and they don’t.)

Fulmer loves UT through and through but I guarantee you a lot of it was about money. Money is what has clouded his perception of his ability to right the ship for the past 5 years.
I wish him well as well as his family but do not think for a minute you will see Phil picking up cans on the side of the road for gas money. He needs to separate himself from UT and build something somewhere else or just enjoy his life. He would be a distraction if kept around UT football in any capacity as you could see there was some resentment in his demeanor.

I suppose that if he was forced out then after that amount of time and effort he probably feels a little betrayed. Hope for his sake that in time he can accept that it was done for the greater good of the university and was not personal.

I don't think you have to worry about him staying on. I could tell from the way he answered that question it won't happen anytime soon, if at all. There are some burnt bridges up there right now. It could get real ugly.

Imagine devoting your life something, then it's taken away when you feel you can still accomplish your goals. I can't begin to understand what he is going through.

I wish him nothing but the best, and I sincerely hope he's a part of UT in the future. I don't believe that will happen.

When he stated he would help his successor in any way he could was one of the most selfless acts I have seen in a while.

Nothing but class from the HFC. I will miss him, and here's hoping our next coach will enjoy the same successes.

Reading between the lines during the press conference, it seems that today's decision probably wasn't a total shock to either party, except in that it actually did happen. i don't think Hamilton wanted to do it, but at this point didn't have a choice.

i'll take each of them for their word. I'm sure it was hard for Hamilton to do, and i'm sure Fulmer wants what's best for the program. i'm happy leaving it at that.

He stated clearly in his press conference that "I'm sure we could have turned things around if given the chance. That didn't happen so we'll move on."

That's not the exact quote but it's very close. I couldn't find the transcript nor full press conference.

He did NOT decide to step down.........he was ushered out and he did not fight off the usher.

He maintained class about it.

class. yes he did. CPF has always been a class act. when his team left when he did, it showed me how much they cared for him. i just have a feeling whoever the next coach is will have a tough time winning these players over. i dont think it will be public, but it will happen. your coach doesnt just get fired, and you be ready to move on. the players will go through a process too.
