I just don't get it.. Don't get me wrong I'm a die hard TN fan through and through. Always have been and always will be. But I don't understand why I'm not a true fan if I don't like Cuonzo. I cheer for this team and these players but it kills me to see all this talent get beat and out coached.. I think people like me who were disappointed with Pearl going to Auburn were more upset with the fact that they got a great coach that has proven he can win. I'm a fan that is worried about the future of this program. It's crazy because it's like "we made the play in game in a tournament of 68, so let's forget we were prob gonna fire this coach if he didn't make the tournament.." I think we know what we got with Cuonzo, that's fine he's a good coach.. Not great, but good. Of all these people who back him now, will you still if we lose to Iowa?

It was the same with Buzz and Dooley, somehow if you wanted better, you didn't support the program.

I personally don't care who the coach is if he is meeting certain standards.

To me that is top 25 recruiting most years, NCAA 3/4ths of the time, advance half the time. Good seeds. Occasional run to the second weekend.

I'd happily take Jerry Green results as long as it didn't come with Jerry Green attitude and discipline.

You are supposed to be a fan that loves your team and can be disappointed when they lose or don't meet expectations, but you can't talk badly of the players or of the coach. " Per C. Martin"

Would we have made the tourney if there were only a field of 64 teams?????????????

Who is saying "true fans back Martin"?

I've said true fans back UT. We've had several numbnuts around here talking about how they hope Auburn kills us next year. I've seen people say they hope we lose tomorrow night so that Martin is fired. I've seen countless posts where people say we're going to suck next year, as if they know that for a fact.

If Martin isn't coach next year, it's not going to make me sad one bit, I'll root for the team whoever is coaching. But I'm not going to keep harping on what all he's done or not done the night before he plays Iowa.

This is probably a really unpopular thread, but you actually echoed my own thoughts.

Are we supposed to commend him for literally squeaking into the Dance with a squad that was expected by many to fall in the 5-7 seed range? I'm not going to. I mean, I'm glad we're dancing; truly I am. And I am excited for tomorrow night and will be fully invested in the game.

But I still wish we'd get rid of him. If he can't do better with THIS team, then he isn't the guy for us. Frankly OP, I wouldn't even call him a good coach, like you did. He is an average to below average major conference coach.

Did anyone see the reception Pearl got at the airport. We had that. Now we cant stay awake.

Who gives a damn about Pearl, he was good when he was here, he broke the rules, he had to go time to move on and back this team, we are TENNESSEE not a bunch of whiners.:eek:hmy:

Another thing is people have invested a whole lot in defending Martin at all costs and some of them never ever ever like to admit to being wrong.

Me, I hope we make the final 4 and Martin comes out next year and goes 40-0. I'd love to be wrong.

I wish him the best at Auburn. Now back to Martin. Can anyone say with 100% certainty that this season is all on him. We have seen some jacked up shots by lots of players. Looking scared at times. Missed bunny layups. Free throws that looked like a blind one armed beetle through up. Uninspired defense a lot. Ok maybe Martin is soft spoken. Takes time outs at odd times. But sometimes players are just uncoachable. I have seen Stokes and Maymon leave it on the floor. Improve a great deal. Jordy is a great scorer but I think plays way out of control a lot. Richardson should be MORE aggressive. Point guard play has been attrosive most of the year. And if the shots aren't falling this team plays piss poor defense. So who is to say that this team isn't responsible more than the coach. I'm ready to give Martin 3 more years. And yes I wanted Pearl back. That ship has sailed just like my hair. Go Big Orange.

I personally don't care whether you want to support Martin as coach or not but these players who have worked extremely hard deserve better. These players are preparing to play in UT's first NCAA tournament game in a few years and they're being forced to answer questions about Pearl. Maybe fans should spend a little more time celebrating and supporting them and less time creating an idiotic petition to rehire a coach who got us in trouble with the NCAA. Anyone involved in that can take their new Auburn gear and shove it up their backside

You are exaggerating so much. There are plenty who still support but have also been critical. We all want success, but I am not a negative person. I don't use my time to ***** and moan about something I can't control. Others simply aren't that way.

I'm not exaggerating at all. There are people on these and other boards who invest all their posting time telling people Cuonzo is fine and that anyone who doesn't like him isn't a fan. Thus you see threads like this pop up.

I just want to win basketball games. I hope we start a 7 game streak tomorrow.

I've asked this of several people who have made this assertion . . . Who are these people supposedly lifting Martin above all criticism and defending him at all costs? I can't recall anybody doing that. Even the truest of the true believers were going negative on Martin by the second loss to A&M.

This x100. Where is the accountability for the players? And to sit back and make the plain statements of "well it falls on the coach" or "it's the coach's job to light a fire under them" is lazy and unthoughtful analysis. I'm not saying CCM is a great coach; i'm not saying he doesn't deserve any blame. What I'm saying is the players deserve their share as well. Stokes makes a free throw, and we put a hand in a guys face and that gives us 24-9 record minimum (Texas A&M). Can't blame CCM alone for that.

**EDIT**

When all that being said, at this moment, I don't care about the blame. All I care about is surviving and advancing. No one cares what your record is as long as you got in. Go Vols!

IMO, this is a lot of it...especially on this board.

Many on here now realize he is indefensible, so they turn their argument into the "you're not a VFL if you don't support the program regardless of who the coach is.".

Which is bs.

Others are those who blindly follow what the university tells them to. As I said earlier, the university loves these guys.

One can support the players and love the school, and dislike the coach and want change. Hell...I'd argue it's our duty as vol fans to speak up when others are settling for mediocrity.

That being said, hope these players win as many games as possible and that CCM builds his resume enough to find a decent job elsewhere.

You are exaggerating. People who are supporting the team aren't saying he has been a fantastic coach. You are just using generalities to make a point.

Pearl energized their fan base in 15 seconds more than Martin has ours in 3 years.

And people wonder why we wanted the guy back...smh.

I don't have any input in the AD, and I don't sign petitions. I support my team, and every once in a while, I spend money to support them. More power to you if you have some influence.
