I Don't Think We Should Red Shirt JJ Peterson

I've seen some talking about what games JJ will play in before he red shirts. He's not the type of player to be here more than 4 years. I think we should play him early and often (starting week 2 since he not getting to Knox til tomorrow).

Thoughts?

I wouldn't count on him playing till Charlotte, KY and Vandy...maybe Mizzou to get his 4 games in unless goes in a game that got away from us like bama.

If he plays earlier than that, then we have issues at LB from injuries or bad performance. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

It is for people like Peterson that the old rule that freshmen were not allowed to play was there to begin with. I really do think that it would benefit him to just get used to a new way of living under the guidance of high-quality people like Rumph for a year. He has had a living Arrangement where the closest thing he has to adult mentorship is Rush Propst. I think he would be better served to be shown that there is something to life other than football.

Pretty sure it was more about how incoming freshmen had probably never been in a weight room till they get to college.

'Redshirt' him?!

That's rich - he's gotta get here first. Kinda like the cart before the horse here, pal.

I get thinking ahead, but he has missed all of fall camp, he's over a week behind in his classes, he's a true freshman, and LB is arguably our strongest and deepest position groups this year.

How about we let him finish unpacking his suitcase before we anoint him savior of UT football?

The date he was to be here has been pushed backed so many times now. The date we were supposed to know one way or the other if he could still get in, has been pushed back so many times now. I've read on on VN that it's not an issue of a test score being flagged by the Clearinghouse like it was with Preston Williams... so, what could this delay possibly be about?

Let him come back and take his time get conditioned.Just have him ready for the Sec gauntlet if u ask me.No point throwing him out in 4 days and risking an injury. If I'm not mistaken isnt there sum acclamation period he's gotta go through?

He has yet to experience the speed and size differential of the college game. He'd be lost without a LOT of practice under his belt. You could damage his psyche by putting him out there too early without the tools and experience necessary for him to be successful.

Let's wash the probst off this 18 year kid first. He's in for a real change. He's got children he will be missing dearly. He's behind on the field, film study, classroom, weight room, nutrition and life on campus. We can't really expect this young man to come in and contribute in week two or three. Maybe he will. I don't know.

Does he really?

Did I miss something? I believe he needs to get through the clearinghouse and start classes first...sometime this week.

Special teams until he gets in game shape and learns the defense. Until then, he's a liability

This is funny. Most people that nothing about football will not agree with you. You are 100% correct. He will be a liability on the field because there is no way he can learn the defense in 48 hours period. I am really happy that he is here and I really wish he could have gotten through the NCAA clearing house earlier but it just did not happen. I would not expect to see him getting in real playing time until week 4-5 except on special teams.

He will play this year I believe. Kid is super talented. I think he's a starter at OLB before the season is over

Pruitt puts him on the field. He will be like a heat seeking missile. If he makes it here he gets on the field quickly. Then all you nay sayers will be like WOW. Get him in the rotation quickly.

Heh, at first thought you were talking about the Jauan Jennings "JJ."

Maybe we should call JJ Peterson "JJP" or something, to keep confusion down.

As for the question, I think he'll play as much as he can contribute to us getting Ws. Don't think CJP is going to hold him back one bit, if he's among the best 22 players on the team. My guess is, that means he will NOT redshirt this year. He might be playing catchup through September, but some time in October he'll likely get on the field, and--if he's as strong as his *s say he is--will not be off the field much at all from that point.

Maybe we should just accept that confusion is going to happen, and not worry about those who can't avoid experiencing it.

Sure. In fact, let's just go the George Foreman route, and call all 110 players on our roster "George." I mean, if we're going to embrace confusion about who we're discussing, let's don't do it in a small way, let's go whole hog!

So, I figure Peterson will go pro in three years. He'll also be married with two kids and a mortgage.

If he does get cleared by the NCAA we should hope to see him this season. May be the only time hes eligible! Hope I am wrong though

Play him in the two cupcake games after WVU and see if he’s ready to play against UF
