Same with coaches, how do they not adjust or get a fire to do better.

That’s some of it. Mercenaries will play hard though if they’re motivated right. If you allow laziness and apathy in the locker room it’s a cancer that spreads. You’ve got to cut that cancer out.

I’ve thought about that. I’m sure everyone in college aspires to make it to the next level. However, some may have the realization that it’s not in their cards. Saying that, much like occupations that are not commission based, people give the effort of what they feel their value is.

They are out of shape. Coaches go soft on them. Don't want them to portal out.

We are consistently doing it every game. If it was a few games here and there, it would make more sense. If you consistently fail at something with your job, don't you work to fix it?

To an extent. But competitors don’t want to embarrass themselves, even if they are paid. At some point personal pride has to kick in.

Schemes, alignments, coaching are hard to overcome though.

We lost several guys to other Power 4 programs who finished better once they left. Slaughter played well for Arkansas last year. Thomas and Young had pretty good seasons with Miami.

Kentucky has had 490 yards two times this year….
Against us and Eastern Michigan. They have scored 30 or more points two times this year…. Against us and Eastern Michigan. So yeah id say our defense isnt that great.

Our defense is bad. We know that. However, our offense has not played well either the last 3 weeks. Today, our offense did play well. That’s a good sign.

I think we can expect the defense to always be bad every week. I hope our offense plays as well as it did today (and against UGA) the rest of the year.

Folks blame NIL for everything. This D needs to improve but it’s not that they aren’t trying. That’s total garbage. We got problems on D, but that isn’t one of them. GBO! Keep winning Vols!

We are consistently doing it every game. If it was a few games here and there, it would make more sense. If you consistently fail at something with your job, don't you work to fix it?

Of course there is room for improvement and players and coaches should be working to improve, which I am sure they are doing.
But it's not like the defense isn't doing some great things and it's not like we aren't putting up some crazy numbers on "good" defenses.

I mean when the parts aren't working you change out the parts.. I guess the next ones in line are even worse which is a scary thought. It's a scheme or effort problem maybe both..
