It took Saban three years to win the NC. I know he went 6-6 in Year One, but hellfire, he had an undefeated regular season in Year Two. What Vol fan wouldn't be thrilled with that? Usually, we know we aren't going undefeated before the end of September.

I don't expect us to win the SEC in 2011, much less the NC. We still seem a long way from that calibre and consistency.

In fact, I fear we may not be 0.500 next year. We lose a lot of key performers which enabled this 7 - 5 (6) season.

Is Saban just that much better than everybody else? Is TN really that threadbare? What are the expectation for CLK Year Two? Thoughts?

(Shameless Bump Edit): Fulmer would have been 7-5 with this team too. Kiffin's recruiting class isn't going to have us undefeated next season (and looks more and more like a bust class), and now the program has suffered a major blow. Supported Kiffin while he was here, but the subtext to all my posts were clear.....

The only good part of the Kiffin "era" will be he did stick behind Jonathan Crompton, and at least that young man will leave not as one of the most reviled Vols of all time.

 We don't even know what the team is going to be for next year. How can we predict a NC for 2011?

Improvement from last year is what can be reasonably expected. Undefeated regular season? Fuhgetaboutit

Minimum of 8 wins next season. Give it time and sit back and enjoy the show

Saban had a senior QB and a senior defensive line. We will have neither... I believe 2012 will be the year we will see a serious difference.:zeitung_lesen:

We have Oregon next year and Cincinnati and North Carolina the year after that to go along with the SEC schedule. It's hard to go undefeated when you schedule tough out of conference. Bama got past VT early in the year so they stepped up but UF only goes against Florida St. If Florida St. steps up with the new coaching staff and becomes a national power again you can expect UF to drop them off their schedule like they did Miami a few years back.

Winning a championship? Do not get in the car with Tyler Smith even if you need a ride.....

to take a stab at a prediction, I say next year will pretty much mirror this year..give or take a win. It's hard to say though. Realistically, being young at key positions, an average season at best is not hard to forecast. I think we are knocking on the door in 2012 and then kick it in the year after.

I see it like this, 2010 we should SEC East contenders, 2011 SEC Title contenders, 2012 National Title contenders. There's no doubt we will have a very young team in 2010, by 2011 all of our young guys should be more experienced therefore we should be contenders in the entire SEC and quite possibly BCS contenders. With the way this coaching staff coaches and recruits it's only a matter of time until we start being great again and by 2011 we should be great again. Call me crazy but I think by 2011 we should be not just good but great.

I don't see why UT can't be very good in 2011. They probably won't win a national championship, but they could be very good and compete for the SEC and possibly the national title.

Ole miss spanked us lol nothing is a sure thing until the clock strikes zero

I'll give them that game with McCluster having an allstar performance. We have Miss at home in 2010 as well Kentucky and i dont see the Kentucky streak coming to an end anytime soon or so i hope.

We should be very good in 2011. They will definitely compete for the Sec championship. Usually if you win a SECC you have a pretty good shot at the big one.

Yes, we are far off as of right now. That gap will close significantly with the '10 and '11 classes.

The same thing you are saying is the same thing Alabama fans were saying 3 years ago.I think we could suprise some pepole next year we might not go undefeated but I would say 10-2.

I was actually talking to a guy about this the other night and said not to compare kiffin and saban's situation b/c fulmer left us with crap for depth. 2011 we'll start to feel it and 2012 we'll be right in the mix...

I've said before and I will say again - look to 2012 as the year to "be back" and not 2011. Two reasons.

1) Schedule is pretty unfavorable in 2011. Florida, Bama, and Arkansas on the road and then LSU at home.
2) We won't have the line depth by this point to be a legit title contender. We'll have it in the skill positions, but the last three recruiting classes have not panned out a ton of depth on the O and D lines. You are going to be relying on too many sophomores at this point.

I think a BCS bowl is a possibility in 2011, but not conference or national title discussions. That's 2012.
