I don't know how you aren't all in with CJH at this point

I know I've been watching this a long time and might be "outdated" in my thinking, but I still want to see a QB under center on 4th and short, regardless of how the play turns out. But a lot of teams don't do that anymore.

Lol what are you talking about? We also felt really good about Pruitt after he smoked Auburn and Kentucky. I'm just saying. You act like it doesn't make any sense to you as to why, then you start your thread putting aside the most obvious reason. No one was ready to fire him after the Florida collapse because there was no reason to. There's no reason to be "all in" after whipping up on a TERRIBLE Missouri team.
Not one time did I ever feel good about Pruitt.

I'm not a sunshine pumper by any means, but I am impressed with CJH's playcalling. I'm also impressed with the fight that they have. Tennessee was playing with Florida for a half, and if a few plays were executed better on our end, it would have least have had a different complexion. The progress is obvious.

I know it's not even half a season. I know gators are the only team we've played.

But if you take a realistic look at the state of the program, and what you are watching happen today, there is no way you don't think good things are coming our way.

GO VOLS!!!! 🧡

Number 1, it is still the administration that can keep Heupel from being successful. Lot tp prove with that bunch long before JH can prove himself.

Number 2, you don't go all in on a coach in year 1. And with investigation, probably be year 5 before you make that decision.

Number 3, after he beats Missouri, Vandy, Kentucky and South Carolina ALL 3 years in a row in the same seasons, then you might be ready to go all in. Because then, we might be positioned to play with the upper teams in the conference.. Not happening on a consistent basis until that first hurdle is jumped.

Was this supposed to be blue font?
I mean, it’s an opinion that you can disagree with if you like. Our QB situation is subpar, and that’s my stance. But maybe you are like some others on here, and think having a great QB won’t make any difference.

Ok I'll bite. What's wrong with Hooker last two games? His QB play today, vs TT and FL was solid QB playing..
Our WR have been an issue but they showed up today. Don't matter how great a QB is if the WR aren't going to catch the ball and make plays.

Only question I have is recruiting. I never doubted his coaching on the field, but we have to compete with teams you really can’t out-scheme. We are in the weaker division, but to compete with Florida and UGA you have to have at least enough talent to compete with them. We have talent, but we are competing right now with a lot of spare parts we acquired at a yard sale. We don’t have the depth right now.

I’m impressed with how much he has gotten out of this bunch, and I think his offensive philosophy will work. I know we still have some who are holding out for more pro style like Jawja runs, but we don’t have the talent to protect a QB who moves well in the pocket but can’t really escape and gain positive yards. I could care less if Tennessee QBs are more NFL ready as long as they can win while they are here.

He calls an exciting game. He just needs to recruit at an elite level. You can’t compete with the best on a yearly basis by coaching up a bunch of 3 stars with a substantial mismatch of elite talent.
How old are you? Do you remember the A-team? Do you remember how many bad @$$ machines they built out of spare parts? Be patient bud. Josh Heupel is like Mr T and I pity the fools of the SECE once he gets his bullet proof van with a plow and jet booster, built!😎
GBO!!

Today he was fine. The last game, our offense put up 14 points. Was he terrible? Nah. Was he great. Nah. He is a decent option at best. We don’t have a great QB and don’t know why I’m having to defend that.

Probably older than you, and yes I remember the A-Team and Mr T. I also remember that when we recruited at a high level we were at our most successful. We don’t have the natural recruiting base of some of our rivals and most kids don’t remember us being that competitive on a yearly basis.

I didn’t mean for the how old are you question to come across as snarky, I was genuinely asking.
You are right but that A-team always found away to get the best of the bad guys, no matter how outmanned they were. I’m just hoping Heupel can find a way to do this with an outmanned roster. You’re also right about the kids not remembering. My kids ask me all the time, “dad, why do you love a team like Tennessee so much and not someone like bama or Georgia, and who the heck is this Mr T guy you’re talking about?!”🤓
GBO!!

Agreed, i have been bought in with this entire staff form development to culture to scheme and game management. Not sure how high the ceiling is. We need more dudes before that can be said. I like this staff!!!!

He called a play that put the decision on the refs. That is his fault. There are many things to be happy about, but there are still concerns.

Hall of Fame bad take, questioning the coach's offensive decisions on a play that scored in a game with 700 yards of offense, nearly 500 rushing and 62 points on the board. Email your phone number and maybe he'll text you next time the Vols are inside the 5.

We have a spectacular natural recruiting base. We are within a few hours of elite talent and in-state talent is at an all time high and growing. It's why Tennessee has signed top classes for 90 years and won more football games in the last 90 than all but 4 teams in college football.

Very true. He's doing very well under the circumstances and anyone can see he's well on his way to changing the culture. Frankly, I'll always be appreciative that he took the job when others wanted nothing to do with it. Shows me he's not the type to back down from a challenge...and this job at this time is one helluva challenge. It's going to be interesting to see what we look like and how competitive we can be with the better teams in the SEC when he's got a full roster with players that fit his system.

He’s better than the last guy.

We’ll see how it goes*

*Needs to recruit better

I think people overlook how much we lost from a team that wasn't very good to begin with.
It's weird that the primary narrative coming into the season was what you just said. Now that we've seen some success and the biggest SEC win for us in years, considering all that was true about that narrative, people are in a "wait and see" mentality about whether Heupel can coach.

I'm not saying he's Saban, but dam. He's shown a lot already.
