I don’t understand yall

Because for some reason they think milking the clock when there was a real possibility you were about to go 3 and out and give MSU a chance to win the game in regulation is - “bad coaching”

Real ball knowers know he did the right thing.
He did the right thing trying today milk clock and kick FG with no time for state to score .. GO VOLS!!!!!!!

It’s the same thing every game. With next week being a bye week, we’re about to get 13 days of posts boasting about how we’re going to beat Arkansas 70-3 and should have no problem winning by two TDs in Tuscaloosa.
Exactly right. That's why we need to call these posts out! Several of us warned folks last week that this could be a final possession type of game. We were called negavols or losers. What is the fascination with predicting scores/margin of victory? I don't get it. What is wrong with saying, "we should win this game but it could be a very difficult game". This is going to be the new SEC. An easy road win will be very, very rare.

I think the miffed punt at the start hirt Tennessee. They forced MSU to go 3 and out and momentum started in our favor. Our defense was on the field way too long.
That was definitely another point in the game where momentum was lost. We are great a starting the game, and that play there really got us behind the 8 ball early.

The team just had a hard time getting momentum going. Every time momentum started building either something stupid happened like a tipped ball int or a muff or the refs killed it with a phantom penalty.

Criticize them for not playing their best but no apologies necessary for a win. Admit things need to be corrected and improved but a win is a win. Some posters on here just didn't understand winning on the road in the SEC now is difficult period. MSU pulled out all the stops we still got out of there with a win. Take it.

Thes Sec refs as usual were horrible. Something has to be done about them. It’s year after year of horrible missed calls and phantom calls. No accountability at all.

I'm taking it and thanking God for it.

This is just who the fans are. I've heard it all my life. "If you don't hate this coach, if you don't hate this team, you're not a true vol fan". It's the same now as it was 50 years ago.

If you love mediocrity, you can be happy, but you're not a true vol fan blah blah blah. It's the same every year.
That would be ok except we aren't mediocre and haven't been for a few seasons

There were a fair amount of VNites on VN last week dismissing the MS State team. Our team is not only the players on the field and on the bench, but the coaches on the field and in the booths. We still have issues to work on in all areas, so until we start playing/coaching complete games, no game in future this year will be even close to easy. We're a good team, but.....

TBH, I don't understand the OP
Unless we play a perfect game he's unhappy. Nevermind all the close and dirty games we had to play in any championship year. They aren't always going to be pretty and in the current world you don't always have to be perfect. There's always things to improve but I trust our coaches and I trust our players to put us in position to win every game left this year.

That's right, there were only a few good teams in that era, now they can be bad one year and great the next because of transfers. Everybody is better. It's also harder to build quality depth since the 2nd stringers up and leave for the lower tier teams. Injuries can ruin a team for games they used to win easily.

Well put. This is a completely different era.

Not all realist are negavols. The realist are like they are because the sunshine pumpers were just happy we finished 7-5 after losses to Georgia State and BYU. Because of that ideology we wandered the wilderness for 15 years.
You rang? 🤣 still not sure what to think about last night honestly, and quite surprised we are leaving Mississippi victorious. One thing I’m sure about . . . Gotta get waaaayyyy better this bye week if we’re going to have the season we all want! We’ve got some really good players (Arion, CB2, JJ, etc) but some guys are really gonna have to come along in October. Just my two cents.

Ha!

That BVS we’ve had for so long has made us like this. Like you, I didn’t think we were going to pull it out.

Thank you !! A minute and 16 seconds left with 3 timeouts ! Try to win the game in regulation!!
Like Spurrier used to do? Like Kiffin did yesterday? Just looks like Heupel fears mistakes or he hasn't the confidence in his staff and/or roster. It's kind of like expecting Nico to have the "it" factor like Aguilar or Pavia have. Not happening. You either have it or you don't.

Simple answer to the question. Read through last weeks posts and you’ll see an enormous amount of over confidence from the majority. Score a bunch of points against buy teams and people think you are bama under Saban. This isn’t Fulmer’s SEC where you go on the road against most teams and cruise to a big win. People expected that and they were wrong. Then the game comes down to one final play and folks are mad cause it didnt go the way they wanted.
I don't believe this is true.

For the most part, I think it's ONE group of people who are showing great faith and confidence in our team, and ANOTHER group who talk negatively about them at the first sign of imperfection (or even with no excuse at all).

I'm pretty confident of that division. The folks who are proud and excited for the team (I count myself in that group) are NOT the ones talking bad about the coaches and players. That's a whole 'nother group.

In short, it remains us sunshine pumpers against those nega-Vols, as ever. One is fanatic in favor of our lads and coaches, almost no matter what, and the other is negative and even trollish...no matter wht.

Go Vols!

Man I'll be the first to admit I underestimated state but I'm glad I have faith in our coaches and players to put us in position to win games.

We have been down 4 if not 5 projected starters most of the year. If we can get healthy our defense will get much better
Will they? I see confusion on defense, very poor tackling from several players and in some cases, guys who just aren't athletic enough for this league. Won't get into our DC, but I'm hoping it's more a case of lacking the pieces to do what he really wants to do rather than his abilities as a DC. Added depth would certainly help, but I doubt it's going to "fix" this defense. Gonna need to be more like '22 and rely on this offense.
