Coaches have bad days just like players. You hope they learn from it and do better the next time. It’s much better to look back at mistakes made after a win instead of a loss. Heupel has been making his fair share of good decisions during his tenure here.
I guess if UT wasn't paying him millions it would okay with some if he didn't always make good decisions. They don't care about winning, just the money. Lol.

Simple answer to the question. Read through last weeks posts and you’ll see an enormous amount of over confidence from the majority. Score a bunch of points against buy teams and people think you are bama under Saban. This isn’t Fulmer’s SEC where you go on the road against most teams and cruise to a big win. People expected that and they were wrong. Then the game comes down to one final play and folks are mad cause it didnt go the way they wanted.
Great point!

I said it in another thread, but if Matthews doesnt drop that ball and Brazzell play goes the other way in the PI, the feel of this game is totally different. We still, at the same time, have a lot of areas to get better in.
Agreed. If the final score was 55-34 maybe they would sing a different tune.

Because for some reason they think milking the clock when there was a real possibility you were about to go 3 and out and give MSU a chance to win the game in regulation is - “bad coaching”

Real ball knowers know he did the right thing.
I Agreed w Heup’s 1st down and 2nd down strategy. I didn’t look at it clinching butt cheeks, rather he knew how the game was going. So see what happens and then pick up pace on 3rd and one. But they moved too slowly on the 3rd down play and afterwards. Joey waits too long looking down field. Plus he took a shot which lost us 7-8 sec?

Go Vols!

Absolutely. And I really hope that he can admit his faults and grow but it seems we're seeing a pattern. I think Heupel can be a championship coach but he's gotta make some changes to do so.
What changes are you referring to? Personnel or in game coaching? I was effin pissed with the clock management late in the fourth quarter. But what about the running play design in OT for Bishop? The formation and execution were brilliant.

Why are some so negative and cry babies?

We won dammit. Enjoy it! Geez. I can’t imagine what it would be to be inside your respective heads. So negative and “everything sucks!”

Be thankful and shut up. Yes we need to improve in certain areas but in the past CJH would lose these type games but today we won. That’s called improvement!

I’m hearing callers on the Tony Basilio show calling for CJH’s head. This is ridiculous. Those are the extreme folks but still the sentiment of whining about everything.
I concur

I was griping the whole game like I normally do. I dont think we are an elite team. We have some areas that we are really bad in right now and JH didnt coach a good game tonight. But I am certainly going to enjoy the fact our boys pulled out a gutsy win tonight. I just hope we can improve as we go on defense.

Dude there’s being critical and then there’s freaking out over every little thing.

Have you seen the in game thread? It’s constant meltdown over any and everything that doesn’t go our way.

I think folks just wanna complain.
And I may have been one of those people today. But again, don’t worry and move on.

I’m a fan - fanatic! I was venting. Yet, hoping we would find a way to win!

And I’m @ Neyland on Saturday screaming my head off where I’m hoarse til Tuesday. I go to some away games- including ATL vs the Cuse.

But the game thread gives me a forum to vent, complain , etc

But we are on the road with the SEC. All these road games are tough. Look at LSU and Ole Miss today.
Ohio state went on the road and took it to Washington. Good teams play well on the road. Good teams find a way. And we did find a way. But it’s how we played. There are deficiencies in both sides of the ball and Lebby out coached Heup imo. But, I’m happy w/ the dub.

We won. But we didn’t look very good. We are vastly more talented than MSU. And they almost beat us. You can love the win and hate the way it happened.
Stupid mistakes happen. And while I agree our players are more talented? They suffered from what I call "Screw-up-itis" tonight. To a certain degree? It reminded me of the 98 game vs Arkansas. That night, the Vols could have handled the Hogs a whole lot better then too.

But that's football. Most of us were earlier in the week looking past these guys. Well, guess what? It's the frickin SEC. And the minute you look past someone? And assume it is gonna be an easy win? They are gonna step up to prove they belong here. And wherever he is? Mike Leach ought to be proud.

Not all realist are negavols. The realist are like they are because the sunshine pumpers were just happy we finished 7-5 after losses to Georgia State and BYU. Because of that ideology we wandered the wilderness for 15 years.
Well I got my theory on that. And hate to break it to you, but it has a lot with whom your screen name honors.

Weak minded, self deprecating men are more and more common these days.

Definitely the right thing but execution was poor. Missed multiple opportunities to call a timeout under 30 seconds and get the O on the same page. Still better than end of reg in the GA game.. that was rough.
