I do not enjoy games on ESPNU

yes 1080p is hd - but there are several levels of HD signals. 1080 is the highest available picture quality being broadcast at present, there are lower forms which is why the CBS games and the Superbowl will look like they are a higher quality picture even though they are HD - a lot of networks can't broadcast in full 1080p - which is why DirecTV is making such a big deal about it right now.

Couple of points here. Direct TV PPV and On-Demand will broadcast in full 1080p. Broadcast networks ONLY broadcast in 720p or at the most 1080i which is not True Full HD. Additionally, since it would cost them so much to upgrade most broacasting companies will not be switching to 1080P anytime soon.

One more point, unless your flat panel is over 50" in size, you will see NO discernable improvemt in video quality versus 720p.
Moral of this story: Buy 720p and save yourself A LOT of money. Plasma is better for sports, too.

I also agree.

He's a major league commentator stuck in the minors.

Could not agree more. Huard is sure to move up through the ranks. He is very insightful with his commentary and I think he's better than just about any other broadcaster I have heard call UT games this year.

I personally think Huard is great. A little unpolished, but he's going to be a good announcer and seems to care enough to speak with our players and know what is going on. Plus, he's always been extremely complimentary about the improvement Crompton made this year.

and... I will take Huard over Lundquist the Hutt and toolbox Danielson any day of the week, as far as commentary goes.

I don't criticize UF fans for their Tebow obsession, since that would be a bit hypocritical (we did have a large statewide increase in baby's named Peyton, after all)

But CBS Tebow love is sickening. Lundquist looks like a walk on for a role in Leprechaun 2 and Danielson spends his Saturday evenings watching Tebow porn.

I would guess that in the hierachy of ESPN College Football broadcasting that the noon ESPN2 game is higher up than the 7:00 ESPNU game. If this is true, Brock Huard should have replaced Pam Ward as soon as he signed with ESPN.

Lundquist's hardy laugh and belly grab cracks me up...makes it worth watching. 3-4 times a game he just busts out a laugh nearly out of nowhere. Not award winning, but pretty dang entertaining.

What is the deal? I mean, I'm glad the game is on TV but it is not good at all. Not in HD. Not only that, but the picture is fuzzier than standard SD. On mine, the sound kept going in and out.

I would think, with this new contract, that at least all CONFERENCE games would be in HD and on a standard channel that most people would get on TV.

You'd think that you'd get the typical ESPN-type production, but you'd be wrong. It was subpar.

Is the channel not in HD, or have the games just not been in HD themselves?

In Knoxville where I live I get ESPNUHD on channel 395. I have Comcast.

ESPN-U is great compared to the alternative. PPV. In Charleston ESPN U on comcast is in HD, thus it is hard to tell the difference from other ESPN networks (besides the comentators, and I actually think Brock is decent).

I'll second that statement. The ppv game was horrible. the announcers were retarded and didn't know squat about football or the rules. Not to mention this year we split the cost 3 ways, thats $10 i could have put towards beer and wings. I hate the PPV games

I agree - 1080 is 1080 and I am not pushing one over the other but they also broadcast in 720p which is considered HD - but not as high a resolution as 1080; which could cause the difference in appearance of two "HD" channels looking different.

Most HD channels are 720p with some at 1080i. It will be a couple more years before 1080p becomes a standard. This is due to the amount of bandwidth required to run at that resolution. TV channels paid a lot to broadcast in HD and they're a little pissed that they have do this all over again with 1080p just to have the best quality.

There was a big debate about which resolution is better. ESPN decided to go with 720p due to it being progressive (720 lines displayed constantly at all times). This means you don't see the trail images of a football being thrown. So 720p provides better performance for sports broadcasting in ESPN's opinion.

CBS decided to go with 1080i (540 lines interlaced followed by another 540 lines interlaced in the other gaps, interlacing is too fast for the human eye to notice). This will give a better still picture, but you can see trails and ghosting with fast moving objects (like our offense next year).

1080p gives both better quality and the performance of progressive display.

To me its the friggin commentary!! Brock Huard isnt bad but that other guy, WTF??? That guy wanted KY to win that game so bad. Everytime they did something halfway good, he bout went crazy.

I thought the commentary was terrific. I mean, I didn't realize that Randall Cobb was from until EVERYTIME HE TOUCHED THE BALL. The kicker too!

Also, I have every HD channel offered by Dish Network, and ESPNU is not one of them on there either. The picture quality is like watching an old game from the 80s and 90s on ESPN Classic.

The picture quality was bad here in VA also. Plus whats up with the commercials. It was like watching an old school late night skin flick on USA with cheezy infomercial products. Not that I ever watched any of those when I was a kid. Just heard about them.

1. Kentucky has not beaten Tennessee since 1984.
2. Randall Cobb is from Knoxville.

That is about all I got from the commentators in that game.

Dish doesn't have ESPNU in HD. DirecTV doesn't either. ESPNU in SD is awful. I know Comcast in Knoxville has the channel in HD.

Didn't realize either of those until the game started. Then I was reminded the first time UK had the ball. Then the first time Cobb touched the ball. Then, etc., etc....... Which ever announcer it was that sounded just like Rece Davis was far too enthusiastic to let us know Cobb is from a suburb of Knoxville. AND the kicker is from Knoxville too!! But Luke Stocker, who fumbled the ball to Kentucky is from KENTUCKY! The irony!

Std tv vs HDTV is as different as black and white vs color. If you have HD is not totally different that std you've got something wrong with your connection. Also I live in Ga and espnu is not in hd on dish network.
