I Cant See More Than 5 Wins

I seriously doubt if half the recruits we go after even know this site exists. And even if they do, a recruit who makes his college choice based on what some message board chatter is, probably has bigger issues to begin with.

Not gonna say that they make their choice based on message boards either, that i don't know. But, don't you think that fan support plays an important role with each and every university?

5 wins is realistic.
We as fans need to see that this team only has 68 scholarship players, and less talent than we did when Majors became coach.

This year won't be good. But I think the program is looking up. Dooley can build a program (We just need to figure out of it he can coach)

Of course it does. Tennessee's always had good fan support, and not to mention, people are going to be a lot nicer to potential recruits and coaches in person, than they are on here.

If a recruit did base a decision on a message board, he wouldn't be getting the true essence of a fanbase in his decision.

He has surrounded himself with a good group of assistants. How well they gel together with a game plan for Saturday's remains to be seen. I know were starting a new line, qb, and rb but we won't know how good they will actually be until we see them play together on the field against other teams. Not gonna call it a good or bad year just yet.

If you can name one recruit who said he didn't go to UT because of a message board, I'll eat every hat I own.

Then when called on it, you'll claim you don't own a hat. Don't underestimate the tech prowess of today's kids. I do recall at least three incidents of recruits mentioning fan forums being a cause to reconsider selectng the college. Not the UT, true. I was roaming, Ok, being nosey about other university sites and lurked which is what a recruit will likely do. Just read but not participate. In any case, one individual (basketball recruit) claimed to be switching to another Texas school. Two footballers claimed to be recondering theri choice and switching to universities in other conferences. Now, to be frank these may be imposters but in each case the claims appeared on Facebook. That was a little over a year ago. The only reason i even know of this is my nosing around on Facebook and seeing comments on a friend's wall mentioning this and reading the copy and paste info. And you forget some recruits have friends and acquaitances who may already be at the UT and make them aware of this anf other UR forums. I'd bet also kids will know or easily locate such forums out of curiousity and via GOOGLE. They may be foolish kids in many ways but many aren't as techno-stupid as you want to believe.

I can agree with this.

Thank you sir

2 major problems with this thread. First of all we are clearly better than 6 teams on the schedule. Ole miss kentucky vandy and the cupcakes are all weaker. Im not sure when georgia became so much better than us considering they have ridiculously soft defensive players and that they are scared of us. South carolina is better but it would be no surprise if we beat them. Lsu is going to be good on d but will they even be as good as us on o. I doubt. Close to a toss up there. So that leaves fla ala and ore. Which brings me to the second major problem with this thread. Oregon is an elite level football team. We could possibly beat them because it is early in the yr at home and they have a new qb. But people seem to think that we are the favorite. Not even close. They have a genius offensive scheme. With unbelievable running backs. They return 17 or 18 starters to the pac 10 champ. If they come in here and win and get that offense going into midseason form they could easily go undefeated.

You Debbie-Downers are pathetic. Why discuss the team and put yourself through the stress and hassle. We're going to lose them all. Dooley is useless. Just sit back and wait for it. The Tennessee we knew is gone. We're gonna be a Vandy from now on.

I would have thought 7 - 5 next year would be lights out. The former regime got that with more talent and a better schedule.

But this thread has got me fired up! The schedule FLOW could work both ways - we get a big win in that period, and momentum might carry us further.

Totally agree though, if we come through it roughed up, it could be really tough to have our usual November.

I think beating the Ducks is a tough ask - but it may be like that Wash St game years ago where the defenses dominated but Nitro got on the outside on the reverse.....

I would take 7 - 5 next year and run, run, run. That would be a really positive step forward for the program.

That's funny stuff right there. Do really think they are "scared"?

there is no question they are scared. They quit the moments anything goes wrong against us. They have no big speeches or endzone dances or swagger when they play us.

IMHO: we could win 7 games - if we stay healthy.

Our defense should still be one of the top units in the SEC, possibly better than last year. Reasoning? Our secondary, even with the loss of Berry, should be better overall than a year ago, and with our LB's not injured, we have arguably one of the best unit in the SEC. As for D-Line, while we did lose Big Dan (which really hurts), if Smith can do half the coaching job he did in the NFL, they'll be OK against the lesser teams.

Key (as we all know) is the offense: if the O-line can just slow down the better D's, and Simms/Bray can keep defenses honest and let our run game move the chains, we can survive.

My two-cents opinion:

UT- Martin: 100% W (because it's UT-Martin...)
Oregon: 60% W (as mentioned- our DC has beat them with less talent, and now no Masoli, & it's a night game in Neyland)
Florida: 85% L (they're just too deep...)
UAB: 100% W (because it's UAB...)
LSU: 80% L (LSU is good, and in Death Valley...)
GA: 50% W/L (Even in Athens, I don't believe all the 'Dog hype...)
Bama: 85% L (They are that much better right now...)
USCjr: 60% L (they should be good enough to beat us in Columbia...)
Memphis: 100% W (Seriously, any doubt?)
Ole Miss: 50% W/L (No McCluster = even game...)
Vandy: 100% W (because they are that bad...)
KY: 75% W (because lack of depth alwayskills them at the end of the year...)

That's comes to:
4 definite W's (UT-Martin, UAB, Memphis, Vandy)
2 good chance W's (Oregon, KY)
2 even-shot W's (UGA, Ole Miss)

With only FL, LSU, Bama as very likely losses, and USCjr as a good-chance loss, we should be in every other game.

Along with most other teams in the SEC, injuries and depth will decide this season. I really feel 6 wins are likely, 7-8 are possible with some breaks.

I don't believe I'll throw in the towel just yet.

:good!:

This is a bait post guys, designed to provoke amusement from aggravated fans who go off on a howl and growl. Ignore it.

railroad Vol is right! Who'd have thought the we'd have done as well with walk-ons on the offensive line last year? CDD has assembled a great young staff & he's taking less $$$ to hire 'em. I like his style, his realism & enthusiasm. You so-called Vol fan 'naysayers' seem to revel in your negativity. Glad I'm not YOU.

You'll fit right in with the vandie seer-suckers.
