I can't believe he said this [Butch on not spiking the ball]

I understand you didn't know but not letting 12 secs just run off inside 30 secs is the right call. You've got to be thinking extend the game and the number of plays as much as you can. Again, he was very fortunate to get 3 plays as it was.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying it likely didn't make a difference in hindsight. Obviously the right call is to clock the ball. No one should argue otherwise.

He ran off 8 seconds which would have given us one more play. Wow!

He is correct. We may have had 4-5 more seconds but the last play of the game would have been 4th not 3rd. So it made no difference in the end.

He would not have known that when the decision was made not to spike the ball.

Nope. PI in the endzone gave us 1st.

Okay, y'all got me curious, so I went back on the DVR and watched that sequence. The PI call made it first down again. If he would've spiked it on the play before the PI call, it would have been 4th down with time on the clock.

There was no way to know that beforehand, which is precisely why you spike it in that instance, in my humble opinion.

We ran three plays after that.

He spikes it. We have 3 plays left to score from second and goal.

He isn't wrong.

He isn't wrong.

1. He was EXTREMELY lucky to get that 3rd play.

2. HE DID NOT KNOW HOW THE GAME WOULD PLAY OUT AT THE TIME HE MADE THAT DECISION. AT THAT TIME, AT THAT DOWN AND TIME, YOU SPIKE IT. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

3. Let's put this even more simply. Spiking the ball AT THAT TIME, AT THAT DOWN, virtually guarantees 3 plays.

NOT SPIKING IT, he needed a gift from GOD (a friendly home crowd timekeeper) to stop the clock with 1 second left. (Watch that play again. The second to last play of the game is THE LAST PLAY of the game 99% of the time.)

Do you guys realize we have zero players who have been down 15-9 at home to usce. The odds of us winning due to inexperience is massive much less the massive player development.
Butch Jones
P.s.
Scratch that last one please

Question was why didn't you spike the ball after the Callaway catch.

Butch " it had no bearing on the game "

The chart he uses to coach by says with less than 18 seconds left and with the clock running the defense is expecting the spike and therefore the D is a bit more relaxed so that you can catch them offguard and reacting a step slower to the play you call. Unfortunately, 1 or 2 of our players just didn't execute.

This is the number one thing that pisses me off about Butch Jones. Even when he's confronted by an OBVIOUS coaching mistake, he refuses to hold himself accountable and doubles down on the idiocy. He did the same thing his first year when he kept punting and kicking field goals on 4th and 1, invoking "analytics" to justify his decision when actual statisticians have argued repeatedly that coaches should go for it more often on 4th and short.

He's not merely a bad football coach; he's so insecure that he can't ever admit error and learn from his mistakes.

TRUTH^^^^^^^^

Anyone defending Jones statement is either gullible and ignorant or lying like Lyle.

Idiot or liar, thats the two choices if you say, "it had no bearing on the game."

Clay Travis put it well today...

"Tennessee recruits itself. Top 10 program in wins. Top 10 program in revenue. Hire a coach with a big swinging helicopter d*ck. I don't want any mother f***** from Cincinnati or LA Tech with a Mosquito d*ck."

Travis is a damn dbag. He loved Dooley for 2.5 years. He slips his tongue into whatever cheap anus IT hires until someone slaps the back of his head to make him pull it out.

The comment is absurd. But, at this point who cares what Butch says? He is gone before the end of the season. I refuse to stress over the nonsense that comes out of his mouth anymore.
