Why bash Kiffin? We all knew he would leave the minute the USC job opened up. It was an unfortunate coincidence that it happened one year after Kiffin's arrival to Knoxville. I can understand being mad and frustrated at the situation but in reality (outside of emotion) it was a logical move for Kiffin. As for his attitude and personality, it was an asset on Vol Nation a week ago. I liked his confidence actually but thought some of his actions were embarrassing to the volunteer state and did not represent the true character of the people from TN. So yes, we made a huge mistake hiring Lane and yes we are better off without him but I'm not mad at the guy (for leaving for USC) and I can't really understand all the anger directed toward him.

What he and Orgeron did to recruiting is inexusable. The two minute, no question news conference was cowardly, and the fact that he is playing dumb with the whole Orgeron calling recruits thing shows what a weasel he is.

If you can't understand the anger, I'm sorry. The rest of us do.

The timing was awful and i'm thinking premeditated. They knew the EE's were about to start class and they did it at that time to stop them from enrolling. It just seems sneaky and underhanded. Orgeron in the background calling recruits is the proof in the pudding, these guys are douchebags. I feel sorry that Monte raised such a slimeball.

The move to USC is not why everyone is so pissed off!!!! everyone is mad because he made the move 2 and a half weeks to signing day and then calls OUR commits and offers em a scholly to USC on the same nite thats low and disrespectful... he then preceded to lie about.... you can take up for the douche if u wish but i have nothing but hate for the man after all his actions and the conditions of the matter

45 second presser and the whole he didnt know o had called the recruits thing. I think everyone is so hurt because we all bought into him and his staff and the direction the program was headed.

This is to say nothing of the fact that most of us defended this prick for the last year only to find out there was merit to the criticism.

Jed, if Kiffin left after NSD, I would say God bless. If he did not direct Coach O to cause recruiting violations etc I would also not be as angry.

He left in a classless manner like a coward and a rat b.

Simply put..Because he deserves it and because we can.

I agree the Orgeron thing was a shame. That was very low of Ed in my opinion.

A professional would not have looked at the situation and made the same decision he made. He was paid to make our football program better and his move absolutely undermined that. All of the shenanigans after the fact were, sadly, just indicators of how nonchalantly he made the decision.

How could you NOT be mad at him? It's one of the worst back stabbings in college football that I can certainly remember. 3 weeks before signing day you, the head coach, leaves, take the famous DC with you and the best recruiter. Not to mention you conduct phone calls to these recruits while you're telling UT bye.

Jed, I know you're a fellow vol brother, but I think I'm even mad at you now!

Ok, I think I have the perfect analogy of the situation. . .

You and your girlfriend go to the tattoo shop. You sit down and engrave her name on your arm. Once finished, she not only says I'm not doing that, she says she's actually in love with John and dumps you on the spot.

Kiffin isnt a USC alum, he didn't play football there, his father didn't play football there, he has no ties to the university other then being the offensive coordinator before he left to go to Oakland.

He went back to USC because it is easier to recruit, they are in an easier conference and easier to get a BCS bowl, and because they have better players already there.

This wasn't about his dream job, this was about him doing what's best for him and nothing else. He didn't care about commitments he made to the university, to the players he recruited etc. He did what's best for him, and didn't care about the impact it had on the UTAD.

How in this world can a TRUE fan, of The University of Tennessee, ever defend this man?

I'm not going to waste the time in explaining myself or presenting an arguement. You can book yourself a ticket to California and wear the Red&Yellow if you miss the SOB that much.

Ed Orgeron can drown in Red Bull and Monte can coach a defense marred by NCAA Sanctions in a drunken stupor.

You know, come to think of it, didn't Kiffin say last summer that Meyer contacting recruits when they are on a visit to UT is a violation of NCAA rules? How about when he and Coach O do it to actual UT students on behalf of USC?
