He didn't say Mullen was a bad coach. He just said we shouldn't want someone that would bolt for a job in the same conference after saying how much he loved the job he had. Proud is simply saying that Kiffin didn't sugar coat it, he just got up and left and went all the way across the country.
To get to this point, to shoot blanks on Jon Gruden, which we all knew he would, to hang around for three days waiting for Dan Mullen to get the call from Scott Stricklin. And then, to use as your third or fourth or fifth choice without doing proper vetting is an embarrassment.
Where are all the people that said the coaching search would be different this time? That Tennessee is in a better place this time to get a top choice. Where are all the Grudenites who keep preaching he is coming here? JON GRUDEN IS NEVER COMING TO TN AND YOU ARE ONLY MAKING IT WORSE EVERY TIME YOU BRING HIM UP DURING A COACHING SEARCH.
The reality is Schiano was the 4th or 5th choice and Currie has been told no many times already. Mullen is a good coach and Florida actually beat us again.
Not sure your facts are straight. It is looking like Schiano was the only pick. There is no evidence that we were going to offer anyone else.
Finebaum is wrong. AtlantaVol said it was Schiano from day one. And Atlantavol knows. It also further proves the incompetence of Currie and Davenport.
Schiano was never plan B as I alluded to earlier...even sadder part is I found out about it from one of Urbans very close associates literally as it was going down Sunday afternoon with a text did you know you are closing in on Schiano? Your crew is up here now are you aware?
Ill elaborate more once I have time to put the rest of the puzzle together and the timing around it but rest assured this guy was never even on most of our radar until the very last second....which is clearly what Currie wanted.
I am headed to knoxville now...then off to an another location to discuss what measures will help force change. We must demand accountability....pure and simple.

This isnt true. They targeted Schiano for two weeks he was the number one dude..off the discount rack, made only cursory contacts to anyone else and likely signed binding paperwork 2 weeks ago.

He's placing quite a bit of blame on Currie. Laura Rutledge is the one trying to blame the fans

Then we need to broaden our searchActually my facts are straight and Mike Griffith (the most accurate TN reporter) just confirmed it. Currie was down to 3 candidates Friday night. Leach, Cutcliffe, and Schiano. Leach was more interested in the Arkansas job and Cutcliffe said he wouldnt work for the current TN administration. So his defacto choice was Schiano a coach no top programs wanted. Schiano wasnt on the radar for Nebraska, Arizona St., Texas A&M, or Florida.
