I waited over 24 hours since the Nashville fiasco. Now it's time for the truth. Lyle A "Butch" Jones is NOT the answer. Here are his wins in 4 seasons:
W Ky, So Alabama, So Carolina, KY
Ut St, Ark St, Chattanooga, So Carolina, KY, Vandy, +IA (Taxslayer)
Bowling Green, W Carolina, GA, KY, N Tx, So Carolina, MO, Vandy, +Northwestern (Outback)
App St, Va Tech, FL, GA, Ohio, Tn Tech, KY, MO

Losses include:
FL (3 times), Alabama (4 times), Auburn, MO (2 times), aTm, GA (2 times), OK (2 times), Ole Miss, Vandy (2 times), So Carolina, and Arkansas

Against Power 5 opponents, the 4 year record is 17-20. That weak record is bolstered by 4 wins vs KY and 2 bowl games. Against non-Power 5 opponents, the record is undefeated! Jones is a very good MAC, OVC, Sunbelt, etc coach. He is NOT a Power 5 coach and the administration at UT needs to decide if mediocrity is the goal. If not, it is time to act.

Keeping Butch Jones around means you're okay with being mediocre.

If you want a championship program he needs to be fired RIGHT NOW.

Its really that simple. We know he's not the answer.

I have stated before that I was physically ill when they announced Lyle as the coach. This would be Dooley 2.0, but Lyle has the program winning a few more games...not ones that count mind you, but more games. If Lyle stays around (not sure why he would), the recruiting class for 2017 will tell us a lot. The crap bowl and overrated opponent will tell us nothing. We will know everything we need to know by the GA Tech game.

I've been calm since about 3/4 of the way through the fourth quarter when I realized no way in hell we were winning Sat. night. Just anxious as hell as to what they are going to do to get this all too often scenario right. We need a bowl win to salve the wounds but I'm not at all confident in getting one. The defense is deplorable [apologies to Trump supporters] and I don't see any way to fix it for the bowl. We are out of duct tape and super glue.

I was on the fence about Jones until the post game presser. His true colors showed; arrogant, stubborn to a fault, and unwilling to admit truth. And then he bailed after two minutes of questions and let Dobbs and the fellas try to clean up his mess. Lost a lot of respect for him after that. Losing to Vandy at Tennessee is not acceptable. Allowing them to score 45 points is shameful. Not sure how we move forward, but 8-5 this season after we blow the crap bowl we go to will not help matters. The schedule next year has better spacing of teams, but we could easily be looking at barely making another crap bowl at six wins. We are heading into year five: how much longer do we wait for the inevitable?

I'm still trying to calm down. I've gone from full on rage to just constant fuming but at least there's some progress.

I have calmed down on the loss. I still face the reality that Butch will be here maybe acouple more years, at least. UT will not move fast on this. I've come to realize that this is the Tennessee way. As for the bowl, I hate the thought of losing to a Miami or some other team like that.

This year at best is the same record as last year--that is the standard this year--winning is all that matters. The last few seasons it was showing progress game to game, but this year, we regressed so that would not fit the Lyle j0nes apologists' agenda, so it was changed to winning is all that matters.

Now we sit here awaiting whatever lower tier bowl that will extend us a bid to play against another overrated team. Lose that one and this year is a step backward.

I just don't see the progress.

I get sometimes players don't preform or the other team plays out of their mind. As a coach your job is preparing the team and making decisions to put your team in position to win. I can think of at least three games that Lyle has just made stupid decisions that have put the team in a worst position to win (kicking the PAT up 12 vs Florida, kicking a 60 yard field goal against USC (a month after in the same situation winning on a Hail Mary), and going for the 1st down against Vandy down 11 with 97 seconds left), there are probably more that I've suppressed.

To me the Vandy one is the worst because even if successful on the first down we probably waste at least 30-60 seconds more to score the TD leaving them 30 seconds to recover an onside kick and gain enough yards to kick a field goal.

The recruiting commitments are rated lower than recent years. However, the position mix is simply worse. "Athlete" is a designation usually reserved for those that are too small for most positions but have speed. The team needs BEEF! The other teams have fast and big. Our big players are slow and the fast ones are small. I still think a fullback ... even part time ... is a requirement. A walk-on starting at LB is unforgivable when it is forced by attrition. A good coach devises schemes to help the players succeed. An arrogant, mediocre coach forces players into the scheme regardless of skill set. Guess where Jones fits.

guys. he isnt as bad as are saying. smh.

is he the answer? no, i dont think so. he's had 4 years. just realize hes gonna be here for at least another year. he will need to make changes, and deserves right to do so. underatanding that he is coach at a big boi football program. and as such he is paid 4 mil to be available to the media, and to run a football program that can be questioned if we feel the military regime-statistical analysis method isnt working. he needs to be open to criticism...and answer for it. i see zero improvement, i see regression.

and i think i speak for many supporters of this program..i will support these kids playing football, but until i see some culpability or accountability from him i have a difficult time spending money to watch that garbage of Dooleyv2 on the field, especially with a coach that cant deal with criticism. its unacceptable. i like butch as a person but this is football.

and for those reasons concerning Butch. Im out. (Sharktank), still VFL

If you are a potential assistant coach anywhere else, why in the world would you come here to help Jones fix it? He is a dead man walking and everyone knows it. He does not even want to be here. So why give him another year? It makes no sense.
Although I am sure we will give him the year - its the Tennessee way nowadays.

Butch isn't going anywhere, at least for 2017. That's reality.

He has the ability to fix this. Let's see what he can do with real heat under his seat.

The problem is there is not a name in the coaching carousel right now that would be a dramatic upgrade.

This year is a step backward, no question. And I want to see the program back to the way it was in the late 90s early 00s. But,
1. We have a lame duck AD, so there's no one to make that change now.
2. Butch has shown improvement up until this year.
3. There's no one available that is a definite upgrade.

I have hope (albeit losing it with each passing game) that we still can make some lower tier coaching changes and have a chance at a better season next year. That is the reality and all we can hope to happen next year. And to be honest, I think changing out our HC this year could be as disastrous if not more so than when we fired Fulmer.

If we see more of the same, then get the Haslams to pump in millions and have the AD make a proven hire at the HC position.

Saturday night reality set in to the fanbase. This is the ceiling with CBJ. If you want to beat a few cans, maybe win an upset every now and then, keep him around. If you want to dominate, ditch the salesman, open the checkbook and hire a proven winner. If you pay enough, anybody will consider coming here. Instead we poor boy it and try to find a diamond in the rough.

I will never calm down after listening to Derek Mason claim the State of Tennessee and watching those clowns run around. NEVER.. Totally unacceptable and a slap in the face to the university and all the fans around the world.
