One player who isn't missing in action is ferocious safety Brent Brewer. There's chatter late this week of a detonating hit that Brewer delivered to Vols wideout Matt Milton. Remember, Brewer is the player who knocked out fullback Channing Fugate in spring camp. The ongoing battles in the secondary certainly are intriguing, but as long as things progress as planned expect Brewer and Janzen Jackson to start at the safety spots. What's interesting is that for all the talk surrounding juco signees Byron Moore and Izauea Lanier to bolster the secondary, it remains true freshman corner Justin Coleman who has been just as impressive as anyone back there, especially at the cornerback position. Coleman is definitely contending for a starting spot and though he lacks Lanier's natural size, he's a fearless competitor who has looked promising in coverage.
Lanier's size and strength are keys, and Moore is showing nice versatility. Making sure both he and Jackson can play the nickel position just furthers the Vols' options in the back-end of the defense.

Brewer is a monster, period.

If our young LBs can step up and we don't take any injuries to our D-line depth we will have a rock solid defense.

If our defense is the surprise of the SEC and Tyler Bray lives up to his potential, We are going to be very, very good --THIS year. But that's two big ifs.

Let's just hope the teams we are playing against forget to run the ball.

Kidding aside, the secondary is set for years with a few more studs coming in '12. Dooley is turning us into WR/DB U!

As long as we don't have to recruit former discus throwers from the track team to play on the D-Line, we'll be ok

Brewer is a beast and should be a solid leader out there as well. Lots of "ifs" but if we stay healthy and hold it together they should be the suprise of the rest of the sec

Good for anybody wearing orange n white...bad for anybody who aint?:)

Well, with an emphasis on hitting defenseless receivers it could cost us a 15 yard penalty which lost us the NC game. Wasn't Brewer that time.

nothing we can do if the officials continue to make bad calls. Just keep hitting and hope they learn the rule book

amen. but missing a kick is what lost us that game IMO. The poor officiating was just gravy.

Boy...we are starting to drink the orange kool-aid. I want us to win as much as anybody but come on guys...Defense is going to be a scary situation as far as the front seven is concerned. Where is the experience? I hope I'm wrong but I see 8-4 with possible bowl win 8-5. I just want Florida's ASS! Go Big Orange!

Bray will live up to his potential if we can run the ball against the big boys for more than 3 yards and a cloud of dust this year.
