I'm not comfortable with Barry or Mitt. Can't believe anybody is, to tell you the truth. I don't get how fiscal conservatives can stand to even look at Romney. I don't get how social liberals can stand to even look at Obama. They'll each vote for their respective guy, though. And it'll just keep on going like this until the floor caves in.

Because there is no realistic 3rd option. It's Barry vs. Romney. That's it, those are the only 2 choices. I am comfortable with my vote for Romney.

Here is how I see it, ANY vote for Johnson is a vote for Barry. If it weren't that way IMO, I would vote for Gary Johnson. But until I can assure myself that the first statement isn't true, I can't vote for the guy I want, I have to vote against the guy I don't want.

nope, it's still a vote for Johnson. If Obama wins it's not because Johnson stole votes, it's because the GOP ran a turd of a candidate against one of the more beatable incumbents in recent memory

It's impossible to pull away Gary Johnson support with that though. They're smart people and clearly have factored that into their decision already.

Then I hope they can live with themselves if Barry gets 4 more years.

Plus I am not convinced all these guys are actually going to vote for GJ, it's kind of the "in" thing to say around here right now. I am guessing when many of them walk into that booth and no one is around they will see there are only 2 choices.

candidates can't win without votes. There is the real possibility that my vote (and my wife's) now will lead to some major changes in the near future. I will probably vote GOP for Congressional races because that will have an impact also.

Everything you say is true. Barry can win with your vote for Johnson. I don't disagree with your philosophy, my family is just at the point that we stand to lose too much if the bum in the white house is reelected. Never have I stood to lose this much, never. This will be my 9th presidential vote (unless my math escapes me) so I have seen a few. The only other one that has had this kind of impact was the first one.

What exactly does your family stand to lose, that you wouldn't lose with Romney?

I think it's about 50/50 between those two factors. You can't discount the sheer anger that tends to yield protest votes during a bad economy. John Anderson in 80 and Ross Perot in 92 being the best examples. Conditions were very ripe for a well funded independent like Forbes, Bloomberg etc to really wreak some havoc this year.

Voting for Obama.

His political positions align more closely with mine than what Romney's positions are, or any other presidential candidate. I'm not satisfied with how slow the growth of the economy is, and I question some of the bills he's passed (NDAA, for one, and he still hasn't closed Guantanamo yet), but there are some things he has done that I've liked in his first term.

That being said, if I wasn't voting for Obama, I'd probably vote for Gary Johnson. Don't agree with him much, but he seems like a genuine individual who would try and fix some longstanding problems in the country.

If I believed this, I would vote for Johnson are you are. With the entitlement class growing so swiftly in this country, you couldn't be further from the truth.

How so? I'll vote for someone I don't agree with if I think he can do something that would be ultimately beneficial.

How can you think something is beneficial but not agree with the guy doing it?

I think a balanced budget would be incredibly beneficial for the country, but I don't necessarily agree with Johnson on how exactly to do it. That's what I mean.

how can you believe they'll be beneficial if they go against all of your beliefs about what this country needs?

It kind of felt like one of those segments when they talk to a focus group of undecided voters. But it's his vote I guess . . .

I've heard it a couple of times and I always make the same face ->

What has changed? We hit $16T yesterday and the GOP candidate isn't showing me anything that makes me think he will reverse that.

The fact that if any congressman that votes for a budget that isn't balanced, is guaranteed to have to face a well funded primary contestant is a good start

Currently my family is guaranteed at least a 10% tax increase next year with Nobamacare. If you don't believe that then you are in trouble. 2nd, I have a kid graduating in Architecture next year. When he started, it was a great field. In the 5 years that he has been in school, it has tanked largely due to the fiscal policies of the current regime. He stand to not have a job and be living with me. 3rd I have a kid graduating with a masters in Biomed that couldn't get a job when he graduated with a BS and a 3.5+ GPA. He isn't guaranteed a job either, I may also be supporting him. What little 401k we have is making NO headway to recovery much less growth and with the outrageous deficit spending that is going on, it will either stay stagnant or be confiscated by the 401k grab that is being considered by the WH now under the guise of the mandatory retirement accounts. I am an avid hunter and fear for the loss of my guns. I am actually scared that the nut in chief will follow through on allowing the UN to police guns in our country. There are so many things that this egotistical nutjob is capable of that it is inconceivable that our country could stand another 4 years of him. Being in your early 50's and on the cusp of unemployment is kind of daunting.

So you will vote for the guy that doesn't even believe in a budget because the one that he put forth this year didn't get a single vote in the Senate?

Because I try to balance what I want with what I think the country needs. Thus, I end up with Obama, with Johnson second off.

There's a 99% chance I won't vote for Johnson, but I'm just saying that if I wasn't voting for Obama, I'd vote for Johnson.

If I'm reading it right then you think the country needs someone with the ideas of Johnson but personally you benefit more from Obama? Since Obama and Johnson are so completely different, doesn't that make you rethink your views? I just don't understand voting for someone you think is harmful to this country

Can you give us some examples because, quite frankly, I am confused.
