I was on a high rooting for Fla while they kicked OSUs butt, as soon as the game was over and the clock hit 0.00 and all the Gators started goin nuts, I went from joy to sadness. Its ok to root for them but when reality hit the last feeling I had was joy. I dont know why Tenn. has not fielded a NC contender since 98 but wether it is CPF fault or the players ability to tackle or recruiting (which is goin great) I cant understand why. Whatever the reason I will always be a VOL but I truly feel we are to far away to get there soon. I hope I am wrong but I just cant feel right until its the VOLS holding up that trophy.

We were a contender in '99 and '01.

I think I always try to be factual. It's indisputable that UT contended in '01, all they had to do was hold a double digit lead against LSU and they would have earned the right to be slaughtered by Miami. In '99, a win at Arkansas would have probably been enough to push UT past Va Tech and into the National Title game. That's not a certainty, but it was probable.

My thought as well. I gotta say I am impressed also. Hat you are a very knowledgeable fan, and although you usually speak the truth it seems most times you would just let a negative inaccuracy pass.

No, I don't think the debate here has much merit if people don't acknowledge the facts as they actually exist. I agree with the old adage,"You're entitled to your own opinion. You're not entitiled to your own facts."

i know you try, but...........:p seriously though, i was at that LSU game.....man that sucked.

both years were very good in hindsight, and both very close to being special. reminded me a lot of the 96 season...11-1, beat OSU in the citrus bowl finsihed 2nd. had we beaten FL..........:whistling: .................we would have been the ones getting slaughtered in the Fiesta bowl against Neb...uh, nevermind.

98' NT , we were good in 01' ..... my calendar shows it to be 07'! What about 07'? With all of the GREAT coaches in the SEC now, wow!!!! it's gong to be tough for UT! The fact is, we have to dump Fulmer and get new , better talant at the main man's position! There is just no way around this one boys! Recuriting will be effected, talant on the field will too! As I see it over the next few years, here is the way the SEC will break down:

West : LSU,Auburn, Alabama
East: Florida,Georgia, UT

If we dont change soon, we will at best be third most every year!

It's never sad to be a Tennessee fan, it's just looking a bit gloomy right now, seeing whats going on in the SEC and it looks as if were not doing anthing to improve. Going to be hard on us next year I fear. But I guess that's why they play the games. otherwise OUS would be the NC not FL.

With the high ranking recruiting classes Fulmer has brought in and the inability of his teams to take their game to the next level, there is only one choice left to make...but will they? Fulmer basically got Hamilton his job, so what a slap in the face it would be for Hamilton to tell Fulmer to hit the bricks...I don't see it happening. Fulmer has become the ugly antique that you have to keep because it was your wife's grandmother's.

I was about to say a similar thing...dont doubt carolina (they are really recruiting well) and arkansas (theyve played in two sec cg in five years).

I have always been a "Fulmer-ite", and never understood why fans were not happy with his "success". I love UT football, but I guess I didn't understand the history of the program. That is until now. I got the Football Vault, and upon reading it and having a better understanding of just how great a history we have, I am seeing the "light"....

We need some new life in the program. Fulmer is not getting the job done.

Exactly. We haven't had anyone arrested in what, a couple of months now? Bret Smith proved we're doing a great job academically. UT is a model program that everyone else in college football should emulate.

Should I use the (sarcasm) next time?Anyways,our program is cleaner than the Gators.
