I am infuriated about my game day experience

This is absolutely ****ing outrageous. A UT Usher actually tells a UT fan to sit down? Bullcrap my friends. I'm glad he didn't ask me to sit down because I'd be happy to tell him to go eff himself. I would call and file a complaint on both the ushers and the UT Police department on the spitting officer. I am a long time season ticket holder and alumni and I am pissed about the pussification of Neyland Stadium. It looks prettier so now we should all be geriatric flower children. Screw that.

I remember thinking to myself as a student, when I get out of here and can afford season tickets...I will NOT be that alumni who golf claps and his wife reads a book. If my wife isn't going to scream and raise hades....she can keep her rear end at home. I both sit and stand but on 3rd down defense....your rear end should be up and screaming as if someone just slapped your mother.

Mike Hamilton is turning my fall Saturdays into a social event for the elite and I'm ****ing sick of it. I don't want to hear that crap about winning will bring back the loud fanbase.....NO, this all started in 1999 after the National Championship the year before and it's gotten worse every year since. It USED to be a rowdy fun environment for diehard UT fans....it's currently on it's way to be as exciting as a Vandy home game. I am disgusted.

Chief you do NOT have to be in a wheelchair to get a handicap seating pass. Call the ticket office. I have gotten them when my daughter was recovering from knee surgery and was on crutches or in a brace. All you should need is a handicap parking excuse

I wasn't talking about at Neyland. I was talking about other places. I had never tried to get handicapped seating at Neyland but know that I know this info maybe I will surprise my dad with a trip to Knoxville. thanks!!!!! :)

Ever since UT started using the Fan Text Messaging System crap I have seen more people get done like this. Yeah it's helpful when it's really somebody doing something stupid, but people are just using it to try and get rid of people they have a problem with.

As the person who was sitting beside the OP... this entire situation was bull. Not only do we have a right as fans to stand, we were mistreated to an extreme by both the ushers and an officer from KPD. I attempted to ask, after we were told to sit down, why we were told that fans had the right to stand several weeks earlier when 2 gator fans were standing and cursing the entire game in front of a couple of kids. Ushers that day said they could do nothing about. I tried to ask what had changed since that point in time. I was cursed at, threatened, and spit on by the officer. I went and asked an usher in another section as was told that I was free to stand in my seat.

The thing that bothered me the most about this... my wife and I, plus the OP and his buddy were all in our seats when the clock hit 00:00. The people that complained about us... long gone. Ask yourself who are the more loyal fans here.

The police officer spit on you? Don't think I am buying any of this story.

This thread title should be about the state of the program and how visible that has become on game day.

This has happened to me twice! We were standing and cheering at the OREGO game and two 30 something people told us to set down and quit screaming they can’t watch the game and are getting a head ake! Of course we did and then we did again and then two ushers came and told us to set or we would have to leave! I was sickened! ITS FOOTBALL! if u dont want the FULLL stadium experience dont come! if you want to set for the whole ball game just set at home!

I too have been asked to sit, but I was actually asked to sit in the middle of a big play, which everyone else around me was standing up. Some old dude behind me tapped me not once but twice, I turned around told him to quit touching me. He left me alone. Mind you this was before all the "text alert" junk.

I HESITATED TO REPLY TO THIS POST, BUT I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER. I WAS BORN IN MORRISTOWN TN AND MOVED 30 MINUTES NORTH OF TUSCALOOSA AL WITH MY PARENTS AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. JUST LIKE MY PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, I'M A DIE HARD LIFE LONG VOLUNTEER FAN NO MATTER WHAT. IT TOOK ME 31 YEARS TO MAKE IT INSIDE NEYLAND STADIUM. IT WAS THIS YEAR FOR THE UAB GAME. I TOO WAS SOMEWHAT DISSAPOINTED. I TOOK IN TO CONSIDERATION THAT IS WAS A MORNING GAME AND NOT AN SEC OPPONENT. HOWEVER WE TRY TO MAKE ONE OR TWO SEC GAMES A YEAR AND THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN IN TUSCALOOSA OR AUBURN. IF SOMEONE HAD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT SITTING DOWN IN EITHER OF THOSE TWO STADIUMS, THE STANDING FANS (MAJORITY) ALONG WITH THE USHERS WOULD PROBABLY THREATEN TO THROW THEM OVER THE SIDE OF THE STADIUM. I'M NOT SAYING BE INCONSIDERATE TO ELDERS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. BUT IT UT VS AL. GET OFF YOUR @$$ & FIRE UP THE TEAM!!!! THIS EXCITEMENT IS WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE TO A PLACE. THIS ENERGY IS WHAT MAKES A HOME TEAM PLAYER BELIEVE HIS TEAM CAN WIN, AND BREAKS OPPPOSING TEAMS SPIRIT. I'LL AGREE THAT THIS TEAM HAS HAD LITTLE TO BE EXCITED ABOUT, BUT THIS IS WHEN THE PROGRAM NEEDS VOLNATION THE MOST. THIS VOL TEAM IS SHORT ON TALENT AND DEPTH, BUT THE CROWD DOESN'T HAVE TO ACT LIKE IT!

Good for the ushers. I remember a time when i could just go watch a UT game without getting hassled about not standing up and screaming like an idiot.

I know you all don't agree but you CAN yell sitting down and no one will know the difference.

Here's the thing. You should look around you and see what the majority in your section are doing. If most of the people are sitting, then sit. If most are standing, then stand.

In most seasons we buy Gator tickets and UCF season tickets. In 2005, UCF was still playing at the Citrus Bowl. 72,000 seats and probably 15000 season ticket holders. Most games you had plenty of elbow room.

But in '05 UCF won the East and hosted the C-USA Championship Game. And since Florida didn't make the SEC Championship Game, I imagine a lot of Gator fans did what I did and bought tickets to the C-USA game. There were probably about 55000 there that day so it was not totally packed but a bit tight.

It was easy to spot the UCF fans from the people who just decided to go to the game for that week. the UCF fans had on their black and gold and everybody else had on whatever teams they root for.

My seats were around the 10 yard line about midway up. In the next section over there were these four guys who decided they were going to stand up for the entire game. They were the only ones standing. People were yelling at them to sit down. They gave them the finger. They were not UCF fans. They were wearing Red Sox and Notre Dame and whatever else stuff. The ushers came to tell them to sit. They were obnoxious. So the cops finally came and "escorted" them out. Everyone cheered. Of course they yelled at everyone about how they had a right to stand and they paid for the tickets and blah blah blah. All I know is they missed the game and got a ride downtown for their trouble.

Fast forward to 2007. UCF builds a stadium on campus. I buy season tickets again. It's a new stadium. Everything is new. So I don't know where the good sections are. I tell them to give the best available.

As luck would have it I end up in a section right next to the student section and the marching band. Everyone in my section is a recent graduate. At UCF as is the case with most schools, the students stand up the entire game. So these recent grads are used to standing the entire game. So guess what? I ended up standing the entire season. I wasn't going to go to the cops and demand that an entire section sit for my benefit. It's up to me to conform to the crowd, not the other way around.

The next year at renewal time, I asked if I could change sections. Problem solved. Nobody got chewed out. Nobody went to jail.

Are you a big contributor, sir? If not, you are irrelevant and should just be lucky we haven't found a way to give away your tickets to some good donors. This program is about money, money, money; you need to remember that the next time you offend some older, and likely richer and more important people, behind you.

Sincerely,

Mike Hamilton

Hambone intent was obvious with the policy change on students.

If you don't eat prawn sandwiches, we don't really want you in Neyland.

If you don't want to cough up chump change for a ticket, no one wants you there.

Interesting to read that you have a set of criteria used to detemine how you treat those sitting behind you...maybe you should pass that on to Hammy in consideration of a new seating policy. Of course you need to tell him about the lies you use, otherwise there will be issues down the road for your plan.

On the other hand, its about respect...you have little. You are acting as judge and jury regarding the level of enjoyment those sitting behind you get to experience.

I applaude the stadium gestapo....sounds like they have adopted a clear communication policy.

FALSE

I am not acting as judge or jury regarding the level of enjoyment of those behind me- I am simply trying to enjoy the game/atmosphere myself. If those in front of me are standing, I will as well. If the entire section is sitting, I will be in my seat. I genuinely want everyone in the stadium to have a great time, but that's not up to me and is not the way life is. We do not live in some fantasy utopian society; not everything is perfect. Just because I don't ask those behind me for permission to stand, that does not show a lack of respect on my part. From the stories of those in this thread, most who actually request someone to sit, do not make said request in a respectful manner more times than not. If someone treats me with respect and asks me to sit because they cannot see and cannot stand (for whatever legitimate reason), I will do my best to accommodate. I just don't see how enjoying the atmosphere and yelling with 100,000 other Vol fans is showing a lack of respect.

Even though this is an online messageboard, I am almost offended at the fact that someone seems to think they know my character well enough to say that I am someone of very little respect. I respect my elders, I respect those around me, and I even respect those who I don't particularly like. Seriously, get off your soap box, lol.

contribute big money, get a skybox, then you get to stand all you want while gofers are mixing you drinks and serving you filet and shrimp!

This whole thing about "right to sit down and enjoy the game in peace" is seriously stupid. No wonder our opponents are no longer intimidated by Neyland!! You say you have the right to enjoy the atmosphere of the game - YOU ARE KILLING THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE GAME!!

I have a suggestion: next time someone asks you to sit down so they can see, take their picture with your cell phone and post it under a thread titled "Reasons Our Stadium is Getting Weaker -> THIS Guy". Oh and make sure you video the interaction with the ushers/officers so no one can call you a liar.

And for the record, I'm not a rowdy, beer-drinking kid who is disrespectful of my elders. I'm a 35 year-old woman, a teacher, who is offended by the sense of entitlement of the wealthy. If you "support" Tennessee football, get off your lazy butt and yell for the team!!

Very Well Said! I have also learned that sometimes... Just sometimes... 1 person can get an entire section fired up just by their enthusiasm about the game. I'm with you - I stand as much as possible but I am consciences of those around me and try to accommodate the sitters... BUT BET YOUR A** I'm standing on 3rd Down.

I will now award the internet "You Think You Know More Than You Actually Do" Award for Today to you, Marevul Mafia. Apparently you actually know little to nothing about the actual physics of sound. I'm calling BS on your BS call

It was a joke. You should take most things on the internet as such.

This thread has become just another "not a true fan" thread. Why are there so many people that resort to, "You don't support the team!" when the least amount of disagreement is thrown their way?

splayl.... I'll stand next to you and yell at ANY GAME!!! Birds of a feather......:pepper:

LOL Guess I'm not allowed to return a joke with a joke? It's so fun when people can dish it out but they can't take it.

Don't try to play it off now. It's obvious that you're personally offended by what has been said in this forum. Besides, isn't school in session right now?
