I am infuriated about my game day experience

I see "standing" and "no standing" sections in neyland stadium's future ..

I agree. This would be a good solution. Unfortunately, as it stands now, you pay for a SEAT, so sit your butt in it and yell your ass of until you can't scream no more. I never understood having to stand the whole game....has never affected my ability to scream and allows those around me to see the game. What's the big deal? Grow up!

Well sir....you have to look at this from both sides. You and a few others decided to stand....the majority decided to sit. You gave no quarter....so you were asked to sit and think about standing when "good stuff" happened.

Seems like a resonable request....makes the game an enjoyable event for you and the "middel aged" folks who are fans... like you.

Calm down and think about the situation from those sitting behind you....can you see merit to anything of what they said to you?

The ushers spoke to you most likely in a manner that is not aceptable....but I will bet, they got your attention, as it seems like you wanted to call the shots last night in section II, row 8, seat 23.
perhaps the people behind him should think about him sitting for three hours...that can lead to deadly blood clots in the legs known as DVTs. He needs to sit and stand to prevent death. It is a joke that you can't stand and cheer on defense in your home stadium. Anyone who thinks otherwise can stay at home and watch the game.

Last night at the game I was embarrassed. I was infuriated. I was sickened to see what has happened at the University of Tennessee but not because of how our team played or even the outcome of the game last night. Don't get me wrong I hated seeing what happened on the field and how we played but I am talking about what happened in Section II, Row 8, Seat 23. This was my seat that I paid for. This is where a friend and I stood up, cheered, and screamed for our Volunteers.

This is also were we, along with two other fans sitting next to us, were standing up and cheering for our Vols on Defense at the end of the first quarter on where Bama was driving and they scored a touchdown right at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. At this point we were told by a middle aged couple sitting a few rows behind us to sit down because they, I quote "had paid for their seats and they could not see." It was not the fans directly behind us. We responded to the couple and apologized but said that we were not doing anything wrong, we had also paid for our seats, and that we wanted to stand up and cheer for our team.

A few minutes later, two Ushers, who are representatives of the university, came down to us and told us, I quote "Sit down and shut up or we will throw you out." When we questioned the ushers about why we were asked to sit we were then cursed and told, I quote "If you do not sit your ass in the seat we will get the police and throw you A**holes out!"

We were not drunk, belligerent, or cursing. We were cheering for our Defense. After talking to the ushers for several minutes and at the urges of others around us, my friend and I reluctantly sat down but the two other fans sitting next to us were escorted out into the breezeway by the ushers where they were spoken to by police officers. About 15 minutes later they were allowed to return to their seats; however, we were instructed that we could not stand up unless something, as the ushers and police officer described, "good happened." Later we asked for the usher's names and they would not give them to us. Their name tags had been turned around to where we could not see their names.

I am writing this thread because this is ridiculous. This is a blatant violation of our right to enjoy the game. No where on the ticket does it say that we must sit down in our seat during the game or that we may not stand up for the entire game if we wanted to. I am infuriated that ushers, as university representatives, would treat us with such disrespect by cursing us and threatening us for only supporting and cheering for the Vols. We all pay for the ticket to get into Neyland and for the ushers to tell me that I am going to be thrown out of the game because I am standing is offensive to me as a passionate fan.

If anyone who reads this thread works for the University of Tennessee Athletic Dept. you will be receiving a formal complaint from me about this situation. To all others who read this thread, I know this is long but it needs to be said. Whether you want to stand or sit, do not impede upon the right of other fans to stand or sit if they want to.

I hate to say it but NEYLAND IS OVERATED there are a lot of losers like these in the stands!!!! It is a sporting event not a fnnnn Broadway show!!!! This DRIVES ME NUTS THEY JUST LOOK AT YOU LIKE VANDY FANS DO, LIKE YOU ARE A STUPID REDNECK!!!!!!

If you can do all the walking it takes to get from your car to your seats, but cant stand up during the game, keep you old azz at home. I would never ask anyone to sit down during a game. The ushers should be fired if what you say is true. I cant stay in my seat at home much less when im actually at the game. the more expensive sections are ripe with these "cronic sitters' . I sat in section U row 8 for the UAB game and it was as quite as a freeking farragut cocktail party.

What about the disrespect you showed the middle aged couple that wanted to sit down to where they could rest and watch the game? See, it works both ways.:eek:k:

It's called your living room.

If you're not willing to stand and cheer, stay home.

And going to a game is a privilege, not a right. If you don't like the rules, the best way change them is not pay for tickets. That works with getting rid of coaches too.

Fans should stand and yell when their team is on defense, if they want to. Real fans understand this...

You wanna forward me a copy of this rule book where it says you can't stand while attending a UT football game?

Agreed- while I never stand for the entire game, if the people in front of me are standing and impeding my view, I get my butt up out of my seat- I do NOT ask them to sit or be quiet.
As mentioned a couple of posters up, this is not a Broadway production, this is not a musical or an opera, this is a sporting event. Playing Tennessee at Neyland used to be a very difficult and intimidating task for opponents, but due to the downswing of the team's talent level and fans that "just want to sit down and enjoy the game quietly," opposing teams may as well be playing Vandy....

You are right it is a privilege to attend a game; however, in attendance you do have rights as a fan. I am saying that I feel my rights as a fan were taken and disrespected by those ushers.

Actually, the message the university is sending is if you aren't willing to sit and scream you should stay home.

Never gonna happen. Especially if you have a-hole ushers cursing at you.

If that's how they are going to do things, they shouldn't be surprised when people stop showing up altogether. It's not like they are putting a good product on the field anyways.

People are already paying to watch their team lose. If you start cussing at them, they don't have to worry about people walking out before the game is over. They'll have to worry about people showing up period.

No the message they are sending is that we do not allow people to stand up and yell. I don't remember football games having the same "rules" as a funeral. Stand up, yell, raise hell. Just because you want to sit on your ass the entire game, and someone is impeding your lazy butt from seeing the game for maybe 10 minutes at a time, you decide to be "that person" and text the ushers because you are too lazy to stand for 10 minutes? We don't stand for the entire game. We stand for about half of it. There are chances to sit down and rest - between quarters, timeouts, halftime, etc.

What do mean? The ushers aren't making up the rules as they go along. Yes, it is obviously a rule that is being enforced by the university in coordination with the police. How else would you describe it.

I would have asked to switch with the group that complained, that way they can sit and enjoy and you can stand and enjoy. Win win.

Unfortunately, this usually ends up with me getting light headed, as I end up where the air is a bit thin.

Man I miss the student section...
