I am going to say it.....I miss the big guy

SEC Eastern Division Champions
1993 - (7-1) Tied
1997 - (7-0)
1998 - (8-0)
2001 - (7-1)
2003 - (6-2) Tied
2004 - (7-1)
2007 - (6-2)

We were in the Championship game four times in Eight years in the 2000's, come again. How soon we forget.

YOu're embellishing my fellow Winchesterian. We didn't go undefeated in 1997 as per usual, we got our azzes beat by a less talented Florida team. In 1993 we lost to Florida and tied Alabama.

We were also in the championship game three times in the 2000s...2001, 2004, 2007

Sorry hometown. Had to call you on it! Try a little harder next time

Fulmer is gone, thanks for a job...done. Now on to football. Can't live in the past fellas.

Compare him to Spurrier during those days, outcoached every single time. Did he ever beat Saban? Nope. Again, he was a very average coach.

The Florida teams he lost to were winning or competition for national titles; the Florida teams we are losing to are the weakest Florida teams since the early 80's.

Yet we generally had more talent that Florida on a regular basis. From 1994-2003, UT had 72 players drafted by the NFL. Florida had 56 drafted during the same time span.

I think he was spotted at Dinky donuts getting his Phil on. He was an average coach with unbelievable talent. Not a bad O-line coach though. Head coach, ummm not so much

So a decade plus of getting it done isn't evidence enough? Um,....ok? WTH? Seriously,....there are about a doz. CEO coaches that are LEGENDS now!And they recruited the hell outta the NATION, and never coached a day as a postion coach. Fulmer got sh*t done and made good hires (til the end w/Clawson), and anybody who wants to make jokes about his roundness isn't somebody who wants to be serious about the sport. Get over it.

I enjoyed the success that Phillip Fulmer gave us in the 1990's-early 2000's. Hell, prior to 2008, Phillip Fulmer was the only Tennessee football coach I had ever known.

However, firing him was ultimately the right thing to do. He wasn't getting the job done, and it didn't look like that he was going to be able to "right the ship" anytime soon. The decisions afterwards were boneheaded and stupid, but that doesn't mean that the decision to fire him was wrong.

We have done so well since then. Nice choices by the powers that be. They need to get out of their good old boy back slappin' ways and do something to move this program forward.

Pro Fulmer or anti Fulmer, one fact remains.

He is the only proven coach who would be dumb enough to come to Tennessee right now.

We'll get a scrub, or we'll get Fulmer.

South Carolina hired Spurrier. Somebody tell me what SC has that we don't--zero. We've got tons more tradition/success than south carolina, so I don't buy this crap that we can't hire a good, proven winner.

Except for the kicking and the busts on defense, I'd much rather watch this Dooley team than Fulmer's last several teams. They were boring, boring, boring.

I agree. Don't listen to Gramps. He likes to disrespect the University of Tennessee and is most likely an Alabama troll.

Fulmer is still unemployed for a reason

I would think people would understand WHY Fulmer may still be "unemployed". Does he not have a clause in his deal that IF he takes another job, that $$ would come off the buyout UT is paying him? Would you go to work 60 hrs a week for free? Fulmer is able to sit back and collect a large monthly check from the school that sent him packing after 15 winning seasons. Call me crazy, but I would be taking it easy as well. I would look for Fulmer to start coaching again right around the time the checks from UT stop coming. JMO

Ten years without a Championship is too long for any coach at UT, hindsight be damned.

I thought it was time for Phil to go too ......... however, I fully believe Phil gets the Vols to Atlanta either this year or last. When things were topsy turvy in the East, Phil had a knack for finding a way to slip UT into the top spot. Phil had some sorry years down the stretch, but he also found a way to beat SEC teams we had no business beating.

5-7 with a loss to vandy was a down year for me

How about the 5-7 year with the loss to Wyoming? Or the 8-5 year in 2002 with all wins coming against unranked opponents and the worst bowl loss in the history of the school to the - Dear Lord - Maryland Turtles?
