The more i read about him the more I like him. He is well educated with an udnergraduate degree from UVa and a law degree from UGa. His ability to present this University with intelligence and tact will be a marked upgrade from the previous Mouth of the South.

He cut his coaching teeth under a pretty good coach named Saban -- the same as a guy named Muschamp I might add. Didn't he beat Saban during Saban's first year at Alabama?

Rather than ride his Daddy's coattails, he has actually stood on his own two feet.

He is 41 years old, which is around the same age as Urban Meyer when he started at Florida. This seems to be the sweet spot for many successful coaches these days. Saban is an old man at 50.

I predict that he will field a tough team next season and has the potential of doing really good things at UT. He does need to hire a good staff, and some of the leftover coaches will be a great way to start.

Listen, I was all over the "Lane Train" early on, but the recurring recruiting issues and poor attitude were really wearing on me at the end. Any success with that clown will come at a very steep price (I predict severe NCAA sanctions down the road for him and his cronies). I am infinitely more excited about the long term success of Volunteer football today than I would be with the Walking NCAA Violation.

Yes, I am a very proud alum of this great University, and I have the Engineering Degree to prove it. Class of 1990.

I am thrilled with this hire. He looks and sounds like he is a stand up guy. If he can assemble a solid staff we could have us a diamond in the rough. I live in south Louisiana and it has been known for a while now that LSU fans want him to replace Les Miles. It would not surprise me one bit if Hamilton wanted this guy all along. Funny thing is... We will never know. Did you guys (and girls) see La Tech against LSU and Boise State? I know I did and his team was prepared. In the long run I am glad Lane Kiffin is gone. Go Vols!

Just hope Vol fans don't get all pissy when he leaves for UGA in a couple of years.

He has no ties to UGa other than his Dad coaching there. He did not attend or play UGa. Repeat, Dooley has no strong tiees to UGa. Please spread the word.

He Coached a short time at UGA, and his dad just received the Bear Bryant lifetime achievement award last night for his accomplishments at georgia, I would say a job and family are pretty strong ties.

I hope he does well here if the hire is finalized, but you can't say he has no ties

Something that stood out and was mentioned on ESPN was he is the longest serving asst. under Saban at five years. Saban must have saw something in him to hire him away from Southern Methodist to be the 'Recruiting Coordinator and TE Coach. He even went with Saban to Miami. If Saban had him around for five years then there's something there.

This is hilarious...I understand making the best of the situation, but it's funny all these "We got the best hire/I feel great" threads that are obviously people trying to convince themselves something that isn't true.

Dooley was the 8th choice for a reason.

Looked it up. Awarded law degree from UGA in 1994.

I got my law degree from South Carolina and don't give a rat's behind about the place.

And, for what it's worth, Vince Dooley is an Auburn graduate and that didn't pry him away from Georgia.

And Pat Dye is a UGA grad. He never left Auburn for Athens.

I don't think anybody is saying we got the number one choice. I know I'm not. Given the circumstances, that wasn't available. But, being where we are and you are going to have to basically take a chance on somebody, I think this is a good guy to do it with. Better than a re-tread.

I didn't want Cut but either way we're looking at a new coach in 2 years in all likelihood.

We are going to have to disagree on the second part. Give the guy a chance before you pass judgment. Right now, he is 0-0.

He's our coach. Time to support him, or GTFO.

Welcome Coach - We hope you do a great job here at Tennessee. I don't know if Mike Hamilton mentioned it or not, but we are also in need of a new athletic director. I understand you have experience in that position, and the job is yours if you want.

Thanks for being our new Head Football Coach, and New Athletic Director.
