I am an anarchist - ask me anything.

Somewhat OT, but I love the scene in Slacker where the old anarchist enters his home to be held at gunpoint by a petty thief. He laughs, stresses that he owns nothing of real monetary value, won't call the police, and sits the thief down for coffee and lectures him on the wonders of independence from social structures.

It's a really heartwarming scene.

Why did he have a home?

Are you saying does not equal with the =/= because..um..Politics is about influencing people, most often citizens under a government..

So you agree with me that politics is not government. Just because they are related, doesn't mean they are the same, therefore the joke doesn't make any sense. Politics is broader than just government.

Implying someone who is against government shouldn't have a political ideaology is like saying someone who doesn't like baseball shouldn't have an opinion about sports.

It holds when your belief system says there should be no sports.

BTW, having a political ideology is slightly different than an opinion.

Also noticed that he hasn't been back so my theory the he/she is a troll is proving correct. Several questions were asked which the OP ignored or just didn't answer. The OP also made several statements that were contradicted later or even in the same post. Betting troll.

Or maybe I have things to take care of during the day like any other person. I've been lurking for a few minutes, looking at what's been asked since I left last night. After I make myself some dinner and shower, I'll sit down and try to clarify some points I think I made very poorly. Don't expect a quick response. I am going to answer several questions in one post, and try to be more concise, because I think I've caused a lot of confusion. That's my fault, but I think the discussion will be fun once I catch up with all the posts I've missed. :hi:

Edit: Please be patient, I may or may not finish going through all of the questions tonight.

Nobody is saying there shouldn't be sports, they are saying there shouldn't baseball. How is this lost on you?

Politics is broader than government.

Sports is broader than baseball

Politics is broader than government.

Sports is broader than baseball

Why shouldn't there be baseball?

Anyway I think your irrelevant analogy is backwards. Baseball is part of sports and politics is part of government not the other way around.

Are we all anarchists yet?

Yep we have community elections later tonight. My passion is finger painting, so I hope I get the job of community artist. Gramps likes to play doctor, even though he has no formal training, so I am guessing he will be community doctor.

Politics are involved in every type of organization.

Political ideology is not restricted to ideologies that support the establishment of the state, is the point.

Apparently you don't know what anarchy means.

But you were comparing politics to government?

Except you had it backwards

Apparently you don't know what anarchy means.

You don't either evidently...

  • a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority.
"he must ensure public order in a country threatened with anarchy"
synonyms: lawlessness, nihilism, mobocracy, revolution, insurrection, disorder, chaos, mayhem, tumult, turmoil
"conditions are dangerously ripe for anarchy"
  • absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal.

And Huff before you go bastardize the usage of the word "ideal". It is used in terms of the ideal political situation, not political ideology.

People that claim to be anarchists generally know as much about the meaning of the word as the white college kids that smoke dope and run around with dreads know about being rastafarian. The folks claiming to be anarchists have changed the actual meaning of the word to fit what they want it to mean.

Edit: Ergo my comment about taking out the competition without any fear of reprisal. Anarchy means there is no government, ergo no law, ergo no one to punish me (other than your "community") for taking out the competition.

Do you use roads? Or a phone? Or a bank? Do you spend money? Did you go to school? Do you use electricity?

If answer is yes to any of above, are you aware you are either an enormous hypocrite, or a fraud?

Without government or the desire to govern, there is no politics. Outside of that, politics that exist in a world of anarchy would be an effort to get along, get something from someone, or coerce someone into doing something for you. How is this lost on you?

Your analogy of sports and politics as it pertains to anarchy is a failure.

"The Man" makes him do this. He would be an anarchist........if everyone else would.

The great haven of any political point of view that is anti status quo: I use everyday conveniences because the society status quo forces it on me.

Oh sure. Now, tell me about how society forced air conditioning on you in August.
