The "fair weather" fan BS is beyond old. Just because people are voicing their heated opinions about our coaches' in-game skills, doesn't make you a fair weather fan. It means they aren't sheep, that wander around aimlessly, bleeting PROCESS, BRICK BY BRICK, YOUTH, 22 FRESHMAN, etc.

Whether Herbstreit or not ANYBODY else predicted us to beat OU is completely irrelevant. WE HAD THEM!!! The fact is, our boys left it all on the field. We coached not to lose and did just that. Butch and staff are not above the MUCH deserved criticism. Primarily on offense. Voicing disgust, doesn't mean we love the Vols any less.

I cant understand why some of these people on here call others nega vols or fair weather fans for not liking how we get beat in a game. Some on here saying if you dont like it go be a Bama or Vandy fan. I guess were should be happy when we lose a game, and say wait till next season. I just dont understand why they think they have the right to call people out for giving their opinions on here.

Just to draw a line under the Oklahoma game: I had the game as one of my potential losses preseason. The meltdowns are not because we lost but because of the way we lost. We all witnessed a horror show in Neyland that should not have happened. I think it is 100% on the coaches - as Debord seemingly owned in his comments after practice - and I am encouraged that they realize the blueprint to beat the Vols is out there now and are working on Plan B. Let's hope that materializes.

Every real Vol fan has every right to be concluding a meltdown right now. It was the biggest throw away WIN that has ever happened in Neyland.

We are trending in the right direction. The coaches need to take that next step and beat Florida no matter what occurs. There can be no excuses. Oklahoma needed none to come in our house, to be up against the wall the entire game, and still win.

Do it, Butch. Beat Florida.

why would it be considered a meltdown? I didn't like the way the 2nd half was played either, but you have to give credit to OK,they played there hearts out

The initial reaction is expected. The continued freaking out by some is crossing over to meltdown territory.

I think some of the continued outrage is justified though. It's not as if what happened Saturday night was a one time occurrence. It's the third time since Jones got here that he's pissed away a good lead at home by just sitting on the ball and refusing to go for the throat. It's frustrating to see a coaching staff that either refuses, or simply is incapable of learning from their mistakes.

Good post, I guess. Tenn should have won. We outplayed them for 50 minutes. Our fans should feel frustrated. However, the talent level is clearly improving. We have a lot of very good freshmen and sophomore players on this team that will only get better.

"Its not the loss its they way they lost."
I'm sick of this fan-speak!!!

:)

We got a good football team. The.D is down 4 starters after 2 games. That's concerning, but I'm glad they got this "let a good team come back" out of the way in OOC, that way when Florida Arkansas or someone tries to come.back they will not played scared and snuff that rally out.

So, the penalties, dropped passes, injuries, bad ref calls were a meltdown of the coaching staff and players and not from a very young team? OU was very capable of coming back, the fan base was hoping to steal a win from a better team and they found a way to come back and win, UT has done the same thing and now that it happen to UT, the fan base has come up with the reason, " its how we lost"........what a bunch of bozos......you really want your cake and eat it too. Let me underline the game, they won we lost.......you are pathetic.

Time to put the angry whiskey bottle down and pick up the happy, sippin' whiskey.

Oklahoma made two adjustments: blitz the middle, throw to Shepard.

Our coaches showed no ability to counter these moves during the game. Debord admitted it after practice. The mistakes made by Team 119 were a direct result from lack of preparation by the coaches.

Why Cam Sutton wasn't draped on Shepard the whole game is:

So Butch Jones claimed that Oklahoma didn't change anything up differently in the second half or 4th quarter.

Debord is claiming they did.

This is a problem. Just a fundamental problem.

I don't underatand Butch's stubbornness.

Unless he just can't see and recognize obvious things.

That's even a bigger problem.

Yeah I think that's kinda what's hurting us, not being able to put Cam at Nickel to shadow the opponent's best receiver all game. Teams will just keep scheming and coming up with formations to get favorable matchups against our other DBs.

The 2001 Georgia game has this honor wrapped up imo.

I too didn't like the second half for all the reasons that have been beaten to death around here. Clock management, play selection, penalties, lack of tackling etc.

I think we are OK.

Look around the conference and the NCAA. There are plenty of fan bases melting down right now. The sharks circling in our waters are nothing like other places.

Consider Auburn - Their win was more embarrassing than our loss. They to go Baton Rouge this weekend. Their preseason (many said) Heisman qb in waiting now looks like he's got no sense. I see a bad weekend upcoming for the AU Tigers.

Arkansas - heard them picked by some to be the dark horse in the west - they get beat by Toledo.

Florida - Vols shaking in their boots yet again about the mighty Gators. They to up to a very P.O.'d team that should have won in the swamp last year at the swamp. I think, if you are shaking in your boots - check in here next week and see what happens in Lexington. UF seems to have a good coach, but he can't fix what's broken in a couple of games.

I've even heard Bama fans b*tching about their QB and face it.. they haven't been challenged yet.

Texas. Fired AD yesterday. Charlie Strong, who could be our coach now, seats getting hotter for him.

I'd say: Take an OU Mulligan - get some good playing time in for some young guys against WCU and go down to the swamp and get the season back on track. It's about to get real in the SEC.

I knew some moron would say this.

Only big problem I had with Butch tonight is 4th and goal at the 1 first possession. Kicking the FG was playing not to lose.

Disagree, kicking the FG WAS playing to lose. IMO

Why cant Tennessee do the same thing? Hmmm.

Its taken a few days for my voice to come back and to settle down and re-watch the game. Such a heart breaker, however, it is evident team 119 is WAY better than last season. I think we come out of this in a good way. Hopefully, Butch/Debord/and Dobbs all learn from this game and we can go beat up on some SEC teams.

Issues I'd like to see fixed:
* I don't mind sitting on a 2 TD lead...as long as we actually sit. Don't run the up tempo offense but burn the clock. Use our oversized RB and pound the rock and slow everything down. Give the D some time to rest.

* If you are getting blitzed and Dobbs isn't recognizing it and able to make the play, call a timeout and discuss it with him. Don't continue to send the playmakers directly into the blitz with the ball. We tried a couple screen plays but Dobbs had to either take the hit or throw it away because the middle screens to Kamara didn't work. We went to Hurd on the left edge at the beginning of the first half for a big gain. Followed it up with Josh Smith on the left edge for another first down. Then never went left again. Went to North on the right edge for a first down and Pig on a slant for a first down. Beating a blitz is a short passers best game. You hit the slants/edges and tight ends releasing.

* DB/LB pass coverage I think is something already being addressed and will be worked out with games played and experience. Malik Foreman got beat to the back of the end zone and when trying to catch up, his momentum carried him into the OU WR and he got the penalty. It just happened to be on a huge play but that is hard to stop. Not getting beat in the first place would have helped. Like I said, I think this will be fixed and is not a big complaint.

Overall, definitely pumped about this team and season. I witnessed a great game in Neyland from a team that is turning the corner. Last year's 34-10 we showed some glimpses, this year's double overtime we showed we are not to be taken lightly anymore. After we beat UF, we will be actual contenders.

This is disappointing. This is on the coaches. And especially on DeBord.

I've been a fan since my first game in 1972. I have seen my share of disappointment and I have been there through the worst and the best. I have seen games lost and games won, but I have never seen a game like this simply given away like this one was tonight.

The effort of the Vols players is not in doubt. I feel bad for them. The coaches need to be held accountable. DeBord needs to make an apology to the players as well as the fans. Jones needs to own up and be held accountable.

Congratulations to the Sooners, they deserve the win. Congratulations to their fans. Congratulations to their coaches.

What i want you to do is reflect on last yr. Coach Jake as he was called was criticized for the same things ppl are blaming DeBord for. What's the common ground for both OCs? CBJ he has to be giving input and calling some over rides or helping script what goes on with the offense. 2 different ppl same results same head coach. This offense is a mid major offense that lacks complexities of a real offense. Its a read option designed to be run heavy. It lacks combo and rub routes to help the poorly coached Wrs to get open. On top of that one of the worse OL coaches i have ever witnessed so hell whatvdo you expect. Blaming Dobbs for coaches not making adjustments to OU sending 6 or 7 and we only hv 4 or 5 blockers and he was under pressure all night. How's it his fault? 9 in the box and they still try to run Hurd no check down to a hot play? Think about it folks it's very simple. The defensive coaches come from Auburn, UGA, etc they know what this level requires. I'm done on this game but know it took Al Wilson and Buck Fitzgerald to get me out of the coaches asses Saturday night, but they constantly agreed with me on everything I said.
