Best I can tell, the list below represents all 20+ point home losses since the 1930s. There is also the chance that because of the way I was looking at the info, I've missed one (or more somewhere.) OOC games are in RED.

2008 Bama 29-9
2008 Florida 30-6
2004 Auburn 34-10
2003 UGA 41-14
2002 Bama 34-14
2002 Miami 26-3
1994 Florida 31-0
1988 LSU 34-9
1986 Bama 56-28
1983 Auburn 37-14
1980 Bama 27-0
1980 Pitt 30-6
1974 Bama 28-6
1964 Ole Miss 30-0
1960 Ole Miss 24-3
1955 Duke 21-0
1954 Bama 27-0
1953 Miss St 26-0
1935 UNC 38-13

Looks like Florida has the banner for worst beatdown. UNC or Pitt has it for OOC opponents, depending on where you draw the line for the modern era.

no it was to Spurrier and we had no QB's what so ever and all UT fans were expecting that. we had no chance what so ever that day.

We had no QBs? I'm sure Peyton will be interested to hear that.

Of course, our starter was a first baseman.

What is the worst loss in Neyland history, anyone know off the top of their head?
Since the team started playing at Shields-Watkins field in 1921, the biggest margain of defeat was a 33-0 loss to VMI in 1923. The most points given up was a 56-28 loss to Bama in 1986. The only other team to hang 50 on us was Washington St 52-24 in 1988.

IIRC it was Peytons and B.Stewarts second game. It was right after the UCLA game when our SR QB(cant remember his name, Jerry something) and Todd Helton were both injured. It was the most vanilla play calling in the history of Vol football. 3 and outs all day long. The defense got tired hence the blowout.

That's what I meant. We HAD QBs...we just didn't use them.

Jerry Colquitt, not of the kicking Colquitts.

The 1939 one was bizarre for 2 reasons.

Remember that prior to 1970 something, the National Champion was crowned BEFORE the bowl games...and the bowl games were true exhibitions.

UT won a National Championship in 1938 and 1940. They were on the radar.

1939 - undefeated and unscored upon and an invite to the Rose Bowl. No championship.

Even more bizarre...undefeated and unscored upon. Get to the Rose Bowl...and get shutout by USC.

Actually, one of the weirdest things I've ever seen is that Vanderbilt has an official loss on their record from 1909.

Their opponent?

Vanderbilt.

In 1909 UT got shutout every game except the last one where we beat mighty Transylvania 11-0.
