I admit it. I don’t like having Missouri in the SEC

They don’t fit in with the rest of the conference at all. I don’t mind having 14 teams, and A&M was a nice addition, but Missouri doesn’t add much of anything. It’s a pro sports state with a culture that just doesn’t mesh with the rest of the league.
VA Tech would have been a much better selection as their footprint stretches across central VA to the fertile tidewater region and up towards DC. I can’t stand the Hokies, so I’m kind of glad that didn’t pan out.
I'm less disappointed that A&M is in the SEC than I am the fact they aren't in the Big12 battling Texas.

I don’t like the conference spreading west. aTm is fine, but Mizzou was a terrible choice. WVa, VaTech or a NC school would have expanded the footprint in the Southeast and would’ve been much better choices IMO.

I don't want someone who is going to threaten to beat us every year like Mizzou was doing for a while. I know its popular to say VT or FSU, but I'd rather see Vandy's nerd friend Georgia Tech return to the SEC.

Purely in theory. I know it would never happen.

North Carolina
UNC would make sense and would be anyones Gem to steal, but like you said will never happen. Too many local ties, plus being a founding member of the ACC. IMO, Va Tech to the East would be the best, most likely choice. You would expand the TV footprint, which is what it’s all about “anyway” <——————(what up @savannahfan ) plus culturally, geographically it would be a great fit. Honestly, I want 16 teams and 4 different divisions,10 games, 3 divsion games, 3 built in rivalry games, 4 rotating games, 2 seeded Conference semifinal games and then the final in Atlanta.

I’d like to have Virginia and North Carolina In SEC, out with Missouri and Tx AM. Also Auburn changes from tigers to war eagles so only one tigers in SEC.

It’s probably a get off my lawn moment, but I liked the league better when there were 12 teams. Who’s with me?

Yes.......Texas A&M and Missouri are like those relatives that you don't want to come to the family reunion. It's just weird for these two to be part of the SEC.

UNC and Duke have to be in the same conference. So does Miami and FSU. Georgia tech is the mizzo of the ACC. The Virginia schools could work though.
Ga Tech used to be in SEC, so that one makes sense to me.

MIzzu has no business being in the SEC, not in the footprint and not relevant enough to help the league.

I’m not a fan of mizzo. If we wanted a@m we could have kicked candy out and made room for them.
Vandy is a founding member. I disagree with ever getting rid of a founding member. I would like to see Georgia Tech back for that reason.

Columbia, MO is 300 miles closer to Knoxville than College Station and 100 miles closer than Fayetteville Arkansas. It is 50 miles closer than Baton Rouge. It is about 60 miles further than Gainesville, FL.

Whether they are "relevant" enough comes down to how you define relevant. They do bring the STL and KC media markets to the SEC along with the smaller regional markets across MO.

Yep, and there is plenty of that ; especially the St Louis area, Part of which is in Illinois. SOUTH Mizzou is great people; very similar to Tennessee Mountain Folks. From Rolla area to Cape Girardeau to the Ark line. Landscape resembles Tennessee too.
I live in NE Missouri. People are every bit as neighborly, good, and honest as any I experienced growing up and living in the south. If you are going to hold STL against Missouri then UF can't be in the SEC since Tampa, Miami, and much of the state's retirement cities are not "southern". UGA can't be because of ATL. UT and Vandy cannot be because of Nashville and Memphis. You couldn't possibly want VT since the DC area is clearly not "southern".

FBS programs that would fit the SEC better (geographically and culturally) than Mizzou, by state:
  • Tennessee: Memphis, MTSU
  • Kentucky: Louisville, Western Kentucky
  • Ohio: Cincinnati
  • West Virginia: West Virginia, Marshall
  • Virginia: Va Tech, UVa
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, App State, East Carolina, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina
  • South Carolina: Clemson
  • Georgia: Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Georgia State
  • Florida: FSU, Miami, UCF, USF, FAU, FIU
  • Alabama: UAB
  • Mississippi: Southern Miss
  • Louisiana: Louisiana, La Tech, UL Monroe
So that's 32 FBS schools that would've fit better than Mizzou.

But let's throw out the ones that are too small, because many of those are. We're left with:
  • Kentucky: Louisville
  • West Virginia: West Virginia
  • Virginia: Va Tech
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State
  • South Carolina: Clemson
  • Georgia: Georgia Tech
  • Florida: FSU, Miami, UCF
Still leaves 10 good choices. All better options than Mizzou.

But let's take out the ones whose TV markets and recruiting beds we already access, or are too puny to worry with. That leaves:
  • Virginia: Va Tech
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State
Three really good options there. The tidewater area of Virginia is rich in football talent, and expanding into Virginia gives us some pretty good markets, like DC, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, etc.

Trouble with North Carolina is that UNC, NC State, Duke, and to a somewhat lesser extent Wake Forest, they're all tied at the hip. You simply can not get one of them without all of them. Really strong bonds. Especially the first three in the Research Triangle of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill.

So, this exercise leads us to a simple solution: kick Mizzou to the curb, and invite Va Tech to join the best football conference in America.

Go Vols!

It seems logical that teams geographically located on a map of the Southeast should qualify for the SEC. The problem is found in defining “what logically comprises the Southeast?” For me, this seems about right. 4322A8B8-4C82-4C34-A705-E0545301A735.jpeg4322A8B8-4C82-4C34-A705-E0545301A735.jpeg
