I admit it. I don’t like having Missouri in the SEC

My bigger complaint is less Mizzou, specifically, and more the way they changed the schedules for 14 teams.

If we're going to have 14 teams, everyone should just have 3 permanent rivals, and then rotate the other 10 opponents (play 5 one year, 5 the next). It's completley stupid that we only play some SEC West teams every 6 years and only get a home game every 12 years. Just get rid of the divisions and the Championship Game should be the top 2 teams.

Do you know the debate that would occur with regard to determining the 3 permanent rivals?

It would make the last presidential debate look civil

I'd trade Missouri for North Carolina. I still want to pay them back for that Music City debacle a few years back. Also, NC and KY in the East in BB.

I agree Freak. That being said the Aggies doesn’t either. Texas definitely isn’t a southeastern team. Clemson, North Carolina, or West Virginia made more sense.
I disagree about W VA, while they fit geographically they didn't add to the market so doesn't make much sense for the SEC.

Clemson, Carolina, VA Tech would have been ideal, even Virginia for that matter makes more sense than Mizzou

I would love Georgia Tech in the SEC. Tech has a pretty decent fanbase, history, stadium. New coach has them going in the right direction too. Not to mention it would boost the conference academically.

Would suck for UT to have to recruit against another SEC team in Georgia though, especially Atlanta proper. So much talent comes from that gigantic metro.

In my opinion, the SEC should only compromise of programs in the geographical southeast that also actually care considerably about college football. My husband is from Virginia, and let me tell you, they don't follow it like we do down here. No one really cares about UVA or Va-Tech. Mizzou doesn't belong either. I've also felt that USCjr and Clemson should be switched, particularly from a geographical standpoint. Vandy also has no business being in the SEC any longer imo. Just for fun tho, I guess my idea of the SEC would be something like..
East:
TN
KY
UGA
Clemson
USCjr
FLA
Auburn
West:
Texas
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Miss State
LSU
Arky
Bama

I think the interesting thing is what it does do to some programs. I wonder if, despite the money, Arkansas regrets the move.

From 1960-1991, Arkansas had the 9th most wins in college football. (71% winning percentage)

Since 1992, they rank 56th and are 10 (now 9) games above .500. (51.4% winning percentage).

Coming to the SEC has destroyed that program.

I wish we could’ve added Virginia Tech and Virginia. Mostly just Virginia Tech, but I’m guessing those two are a package deal.

They don’t fit in with the rest of the conference at all. I don’t mind having 14 teams, and A&M was a nice addition, but Missouri doesn’t add much of anything. It’s a pro sports state with a culture that just doesn’t mesh with the rest of the league.
VA Tech would have been a much better selection as their footprint stretches across central VA to the fertile tidewater region and up towards DC. I can’t stand the Hokies, so I’m kind of glad that didn’t pan out.

We are in the SouthEASTERN Conference. Missouri doesn’t belong, neither does any team from Texas or Virginia. We have plenty of reasonable candidates in our neighborhood if we had to stay at 14.

It's been brought up a million times here.

It would screw up the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry because Auburn-Alabama would be the new cross division rivalry.

But, except for that one issue, it would be perfect. It would bring balance to the divisions and Tennessee-Auburn and Florida-Auburn used to be rivalries too. Plus, it makes geographic sense.
Right. But adding a 9th sec game could give us both. I'm in favor of it.

There is nothing really " south " or " eastern " about them. They were really, really, smart by joining the conference because of the money it generates. If I were Missouri I would have jumped the opportunity to join as well.

However, I am with Freak. Not a fan of it. I would take several teams above them. West Virginia, Florida St., Virginia Tech, Texas, Clemson, North Carolina... any of these teams would be a better fit.

Also, for travel it must be a logistic nightmare going from Gagville Florida to Columbia Missouri.

Just my thoughts.

Drop Mizzou and Arkansas. Ark was not a founding member and would fit better with the Big 12 IMO

The 12 remaining SEC teams jump to a 9 game conference schedule, giving us a chance to play 4 teams from the West every year. That would give us Bama as our permanent cross division rival and every other West team 3 out of every 5 years (if my math is right).

This promotes a more even schedule across the conference and allows East/West rivalries to develop further

I’m 100% against FSU joining the SEC. They had their chance and they chose the easy way out with the ACC instead. Let them wallow in their mediocrity.

To be fair the most recent expansion, FSU wanted in the SEC but Florida and Bama threw a hissy fit at the idea.

But yeah. Mizzou doesn't fit. At least A&M is in the south and they have a very SEC like culture. Mizzous culture just doesn't fit in

I agree with Freak. I'm also showing my curmudgeon card: go back to 10 SEC teams, return to Big 8, Pac 8, Big 10, etc. (remember when numbers were accurate?)

With the expansions, what the league has is THE state schools of the entire south except North Carolina, Virginia, and Texas.

And since Texas is the state that it is, Texas A&M is one very large little brother
Texas Tech might work and give Aggies an in-state rival.

GT left us once. As much as it makes sense, not sure they have the guts to ask for a do-over.
