I live in VA and my son is a Vol but he is seriously looking at the Tech architecture school. It's one of the best in the nation.

UT's program is in the top 20 in the country. Not too shabby! I just graduated from UT with a BArch and I loved it. I was just deciding whether to take a job in Seattle or Atlanta a few weeks ago. I took the job in Atlanta by the way, to be closer to the vols . But anyways, I thought I would suggest looking into UT's College of Architecture with your son. Good luck with the college search.
