I’ve got to praise Fulmer for his Vol Call

correct, but none them with the last name of Fulmer, don't fool yourself, Fulmer is in charge, until he is caught stealing donuts at a stripper joint..........his career is safe.
Just because his name is Fulmer?

LOL!

This is the kind of stuff that makes our fanbase so entertaining.

No....I’m sure you’re right. Seriously.

But not really.

Any body know what the buyout situation looks like after the 2020 season? I’m supporting CJP, but, he’s making it difficult.
It’s still very, very unfavorable. Fulmer committed AD malfeasance with this buyout.

Yes, laugh all you want, they brought him in because of the mistakes made in the past, none of those bozos were true Tennessee ADs. If you think everything is all fair and good ol boy stuff, its is not, this is pure unadulterated politics, money and power.....Fulmer is exactly where he wants to be..............the AD. This is not a mom and pop organization..................100s of millions of dollars are filtering through UT Athletics, think about it for more than a minute..........it will come to you.

I sure hope they both know what they're doing. I haven't completely thrown in the towel, but I really need to see something these next 8 games. Something, anything, to make me feel better about it than I do right now.

While I have always been a big fan of JG, the fact of the matter is he just hasn't performed well in games. We need to start Maurer or Shrout the rest of the season. While they might not actually do much better than JG, it is highly doubtful either one of them could do any worse at this point.

I agree with most of what you said, and know it to be true, because I know some people that were around the program at the time.

I agree right up to the point where you think Phil is in control, and the big boy on campus. He is, as long as others let him be. When the stadium is empty, in the waning games of an 2-10 campaign, his political capital will be running short. It’ll be all spent if we start 2020 with a losing record.

There will come a time when he’ll be inexorably tied to a sinking ship. He can’t wave his magic wand and make that go away.

Phil was a stop-gap measure to quell the fanbase, not a true AD. Our days of glory will return when we hire one of those.

I'll grant you that the last 10 years may not have been as bad as they were but keeping him would have just lead to 10 years of mediocrity or worse. He would not have gotten us back to championship level football.
I'm not saying to never get rid of him, just that firing him at that point in time is what started the chain reaction that put us where we are today. Who knows what coaches would have been lined up to take the job after Fulmer in 2009. Sure as hell would have been Dooley arriving on the heels of Kiffin leaving us at the alter.

I agree, he should have been fired in 2005.

Thank the Lord you are no where near the decision making process. The athletic department wouldn't be able to afford to play flag football in the city's under-10 rec league.

Pruitt will be the coach in 2020 unless the wheels just fall off the bus or major discord/scandal sets in. I think we should be somewhat patient with Pruitt and give him a fair shot to see if he can get us going in the right direction. I have my doubts about Pruitt, but I have more doubts that firing a guy without giving him at least three years is a good idea.

I trust Phil Fulmer to do his best for Tennessee and he is a very good judge of character and football skills. I believe we will be better off in the long run to support Pruitt. I really believe it is Pruitt or maybe never again in my lifetime will Tennessee contend for a championship.

I would like to see him have a stud QB. If he screws that up then bring on next coach.

I will say this. To me the University should do nothing until they have a really great coach in hand. Just keep building and supporting Pruitt (hopefully he works out) but if he doesn't just keep trying to inch forward until the right coach comes along. These firings with no plan have been the problem all along. We are not alone in doing this, but we just do it over and over.

It would be financially irresponsible for Pruitt to be fired and for Fulmer not to back his own hire at this juncture. We should be 3-1, we got caught sleeping, should have beaten BYU but made a tour mistake and didn’t have the depth or the QB that Pruitt inherited to hang with Florida. There were also some very bad calls and dumb decisions that prevented us from going into halftime with a lead. This year was supposed to be a growing year and is much more of that than anyone realized. All this talk about 8 wins or more and JG going pro went to show everyone how unrealistic they are and how little they understood about the situation of our program. I had us on the high end of 7 wins. I have to throw myself in that boat now lol... but seriously folks, sit back and watch and let’s see if we look better towards the end. We can’t afford injuries and Banks is an idiot for talking that way. Cops will take it easy on you if you respect them... he just thugged out and is lucky he has a coach who backs him.

Well brother, we'll just disagree.........which is ok :)..............I think he is the BMOC.........and I haven't seen anything "yet" to prove otherwise.

I'm not sure a lot of people will get the need for an ex-football coach as the AD. Football literally funds the rest of the sports program, and without a successful football team the dollars don't flow into the athletic coffers. Accountants and managers are a dime a dozen ... they can support a coach turned AD, but we've pretty well proven that a series of business oriented ADs don't work. Dickey was a great AD, and so were Woodruff and Neyland - all football coaches. Even Bill Battle although unsuccessful at TN as a coach became Bama's AD. Coaches know the football world - "professional" ADs don't. So the question is: if not Fulmer at AD, then who ... another Hamilton, Currie, or Hart?

What I hope doesn't happen is the other SEC coaches taking it easy in 2nd half to make it look like we are improving. I want to see improvement with the 1st team against the other guys 1st team. These late 2nd half scores against soft defenses don't show me anything. We don't score much against any good defenses in first half, then don't make any correct adjustments in 2nd half at all that I can see.

We’re working like heck to get this thing turned around!!!

Vastly underappreciated post. Fulmerspeak was rampant after 2002 or so. If Pruitt flames out, look for Fulmer to say that Pruitt "failed to develop", his classic catchphrase for why yet ANOTHER 5 star recruit never improved beyond his freshman year.
