Would love to actually hear from someone who said or voted no.
At the end of the day, only crazy people brought up the Penn State stuff. The majority of the fan base didn’t want Schiano because he’s a horrible coach and that has been proven right by two instances: his demotion to CO-DC and the fact he didn’t get the interim when Urban was out.
I actually question the sanity of the people who post that Schiano covered something up or allowed it to continue as the main reason for not wanting him. I hated the PSU scandal but it’s hard to say heresay testimony in court should be biggest disqualifying factor against him. His coaching record disqualified him enough.
Hiring Freeze would totally be seen as hypocritical but the situations are nothing alike. What someone does in their personal life is no one’s business. The biggest thing I see is that Freeze’s wife is standing by him. If she can forgive him, no one else has any damn right to say anything on the matter. Recruiting at Tennessee is infitiely better than Ole Miss when money isn’t involved.
I’m sure the Wolken’s of the world will be blasting Tennessee but at the end of the day, he is simply anti Tennessee because he lost his direct line into one of the biggest Atheletic Departments in the country.
If Freeze is hired, Phil and Pruitt should be United in saying they believe in forgiveness and second chances but there will be a tight leash. Some of the greatest people in history have had issues or problems and have came back ten fold with a positive impact after getting a second chance. I literally see no downside on hiring Freeze. I see tons of downside of not hiring him.
Ummm excuse me?
Drives me nuts that I have to bring this up again but here it goes.
I was one of those people but I have a good reason to. I’ll admit I have no personal knowledge of Schiano personally knowing anything about the abuse, however I know enough people involved that I’d be more surprised if he DIDN’T know.
My husband is a Penn State Alum, he is with one of the biggest alumni boards in the state with some of the biggest boosters for the university. I mean I met Jay Paterno so that should tell you the kind of clout this group has.
I’ve had many off the record conversations with these people about the scandal. And I can say with some authority that more people in that program knew than what has ever been made public. It was a badly kept secret that only didn’t come out because of the cultish nature of the program and Joe Paterno’s own vice like grip on the staff and the media.
It was such common knowledge that the players would joke about if saying “don’t drop the soap in the shower with Sandusky around” no need to remind anyone what Sandusky was caught doing multiple times in those showers.
It’s such common knowledge that Schiano’s players know about it but not him? Please,
Another thing is that yes, there isn’t any proof publicly that proves him guilty. Unfortunately we live in a post Me Too world where public perception is now guilty until proven innocent. You don’t think other schools would have pulled out that deposition, highlights Schiano’s name, handed it to the parents and asked them if they wanted to risk their child on the chance he might not have known anything? Sure it’s likely some kids would be convinced by Schiano but how many wouldn’t? We would literally have to defend him every day. It’s not like he’s an assistant, he would have been the face of our program! It would have killed us in recruiting.
Finally I’ll leave this here, wasn’t my post but another volnation member posted this twice and I keep it to remind everyone this was not something that just came from nowhere. It wasn’t just three or four people who knew. It was anyone involved with that program heard something...
