Hypocritical, or not?

I said "stand up enough to coach" at UT. I mistakenly assumed an individual who wasn't a stand up guy would not be a candidate...like Schiano. Clearly, I was wrong. Character was the foremost consideration with Schiano and is not a consideration at any level with Freeze. My bad.
Actually, I think it is a consideration. The SEC has taken him off double secret probation and he is now free to seek employment. I truly believe, regardless of our opinions, that our AD and head football coach seem like the type of men that would have to seriously weigh this decision and truly take into account the allegations and whether or not the University of Tennessee can afford to take this risk. I do not know the football coach personally and can't speak to his thought process at all. I have had the privilege of meeting the AD many times and I believe him to be a good person. Personally, I would rather not associate with either but I think a known philanderer is less of a risk than an alleged pedo-enabler that is by all accounts a terrible person.

Who had the vehement argument that Freeze is a standup enough guy? Still waiting.

I’ll bite!
I think he has paid his debts, and is trying to get his life and career back on track. If there are no second chances then we all are doomed. He knows what is at stake and will appreciate the opportunity and be on his best behavior. I have no doubt Fulmer and Pruitt will also have him on a short leash.
Give the man a chance to prove himself worthy.
I know I’ve needed my second chance and am a better man for it.

Ignoring all questions of character, do you think Hugh Freeze is the absolute undeniable best choice available to UT for Offensive Coordinator?

That is your view of the debate over Schiano. It isn't the view of everyone.

It is absolutely your right to object to Freeze on the basis of his past behavior, but it is dishonest of you to say that everyone who wants him as OC is hypocritical. If you objected to Schiano because of the allegations, and now you were supporting Freeze, that might by hypocritical on your part.

I do not object to Freeze. I'm just enjoying arguing against those who have no basis for their opinions.

I do think it is hypocritical to publicly shame Schiano over an unproven allegation and not pump the brakes on Freeze.

Good enough
I understand some people’s concerns and uncertaintanty, and I can respect them.
I’m an older man, in so doing I know we all will fall off our towers at some point, and in some fashion. Knowing people are willing to help you pick yourself up and live well again is a great comfort.
I also know public opinion is fickle, will change and be distracted in a moment, and predominantly forgotten in a blink. Anyone who is so narcissistic as to think people give more than a passing glance at what each of us do is sadly mistaken.
This will all pass in less than a season. Give the man rope, let’s hope he climbs to new heights, if not we have to cut him out of his noose.

Good enough again. Did you have the same opinion of Schiano?

I'm not a football expert like everyone else here

, but considering who is up for grabs, plus the potential damage of Freeze going to another SEC team, then yes.

I wouldn't mind having one of those $30k/year "interns" keeping an eye on him in terms of recruiting, though. I asked in another thread what made Freeze be so successful in recruiting, but it got drowned out in the cellphone yada yada.

Schiano I honestly still don’t know what to believe. As far as the accusations I feel them more disturbing, but none of us will ever know what really happened. It is creepy to me though. I didn’t want him however because I didn’t think he was that good.
Taken together, he wasn’t worth the risk.

Schiano would have been a bad hire that's why I and many others didn't want him. That he turned his head at Penn St was nothing but another strike on him. It's funny how Schiano hasn't had any real offers since us, Freeze on the other hand is a hot commodity and will be working somewhere soon. His show clause has been lifted and he is free to go where he wants. Everybody deserves a second chance, Schiano has his at osu if he was a better coach he might actually get a offer. Freeze is fixing to get his chance, I think he is the best coordinator available, all I care about is him abiding by the rules here, if he doesn't it will be a short stay. But I would be banking on him making the most out of the opportunity and I see no reason for us to not looking at him at this point. GBO!!!!!

Well said. I could not agree more.

If we had hired James Franklin, would have there been protests since he covered up a rape or would have Franklin's W/L record been enough to overcome that?

If we had hired Brian Kelly, would have there been protests since a kid died under his watch or was his W/L record good enough to overcome that?

If we had hired Franklin I would have taken a break from watching UT football.

He is a first class prick that where ever he coaches I'll pray he fails. If he was coaching UT not sure I could pull for them to fail so I'd likely quit watching.

You guys keep equating what Freeze did with rape and child molesting. That is a ridiculous and embarrassing stance. Not sure what you're parents taught you but raping someone is far worse than cheating on your spouse and/or hiring a prostitute. Covering up either crime is also worse than cheating on your spouse and/or hiring a prostitute.

Not sure how effed up someone's morality compass must be to even bring the one up as remotely equal to the other.

Well here is my take and I am an alum. Everything I have seen or heard from HF makes me believe he knows he sinned, asked forgiveness and is working constantly to prove it. I would be proud of my university if they gave him the chance to show everyone that he is a different person. God forgives, why shouldn’t we?
Everyone knows he sinned, That is not the question. God will take care of that. I want tp protect our program from the NCAA.

I agree that the comparison with Schiano doesn't quite work, but the question I always ask is: given what I know about this guy, would I want him in a teaching position over my kid? And the answer I arrive at with Freeze is: no, I wouldn't. There are some actions which, even though forgivable, have consequences.
