Hypesman Trophy tonight

Even if you truly think that, we’ve seen Kyler against SEC defenses and he wasn’t good. Now all of a sudden he’s some top player cause the Big 12 doesn’t play defense?

Nah the kid is a product of the defenses he’s played against.

It's not quite fair to judge things this way, but we know having a Heisman caliber player is rare. So, when damn near every starting QB since Jason White wins the Heisman or is in the running, it tends to give credence to the idea that it's the system.

I remember when Andre Ware won his Heisman and the argument was that you just couldn't ignore the unprecedented numbers and then David Klingler put up the same numbers and everyone was like....Oops.

The biggest Heisman heist was Wooden winning over Manning, totally fueled by media who wanted to see that. Also, Hornung winning in 1956 was a total joke as well. I really don't like popularity contests and those that vote for their regional boys. Makes the validity (to me) kind of a sham. It's the kind of popularity contest that is MLB's All-Star game.
Not really, Majors has more of a gripe than PM. JM lost to a guy from ND with no Special stats or anything. Woodson was the best player on the best team, which is normally the prerequisite for winnng the Heisman, has happened that way many, many times. Can give you 30 times where that is the case, minimum. Tonight might be the same if Tua wins it.

That said, Go Murray!

Edit: I snicker every time I hear any fan ask what Woodson has done since the Heisman.,.

Agree on it being the system in Oklahoma with one caveat, Murray’s rushing this year. Count the TDs together and he is over 50 with 5000 yards.

The heisman was established in 1935. Sometime ago some sportswriters (I believe ) Came up with a list of CFB players who would have most likely won the trophy in the years preceding the Heisman. They decided that the 1933 Heisman would have been awarded to Beatie Feathers , although I’m sure that even back then they would have found some backup punter from Notre Dame to give it to instead of Feathers . Maybe we could get Volman365 to ask ol ‘ Beattie his thoughts on the matter . Maybe he could even talk him into posting on this thread about it 😁

I watched Oklahoma play this season and I'm with a few other people here.

It's not his fault. He's a fabulous player. I wish he was on my team. Seems like a good kid.

HOWEVER....

I can't give the Heisman to anyone playing in a defense optional league. The most amazing part of his numbers is that if he was on another team he gets more possessions because of how horrible his own defense was.

But, most of the time I watched Oklahoma or the Big 12 in general, my first thought was that this wasn't football.

The West Virginia-Oklahoma game was an abomination to the sport.

Still waiting on ESPN to begin promoting players on the other side of the ball, especially with 3 QBs up for the award.

I know I’ll get flamed, but in all likelihood if Peyton would have beat Florida in 97 he probably would have won. That 89 yard interception was a 14 point flip and very well cost the Vols the game.

Losing to Florida killed Manning. Had we beat Florida, I don't see Woods on winning it.
Shuler deserved it.
Carl Pickens should have gotten serious consideration
Look at some of the guys who won it. Rashawn Salon. U of Colorado, Crouch. U of Nebraska
Jason White U of Nebraska. Werfel. U of Florida.
These guys did little to nothing in the NFL. While our runner UPS did well

Doubtful. Michigan was the media darling in 1997. ESPN hyped them constantly. One game should never decide a Heisman trophy. There is no changing the fact that Peyton desrved it over Woodson. We still would have gotten crushed by Nebraska. Peyton didnt lose the UF game.

Death. Taxes. Tennessee fans whining about a College Football HOF and NFL HOF winning over another College Football HOF and NFL HOF 21 years ago. So ridiculous.

Gosh. You’re just too cool for school. Here’s a cookie.

Manning lost because ESPN decided he was going to lose then hyped the heck out of Woodson. We dared to complain as a fan base and along came the ESPN knives and the trailer trash comment.

Screw the heisman. Haven’t cared since 97. Never will.

It's no different than how the homecoming queen is selected...IMO of course

Maybe Peyton should not have thrown a pick 6 to Tony George and he would have won the Heisman. I think it’s funny (and sad) how people are still upset that somebody didn’t win an individual award 21 years ago. I bet Peyton has let it go.

The next year Bailey had better numbers in every category than Woodson and never got considered.
