Hyams: Schiano's MOU not valid

I heard on Sports Source that Currie's buyout is actually more expensive than keeping him on staff. Perhaps we should just keep him on until his contract runs out. I'm sure that we could find something for him to do.. :)
That's a really, really good idea. If all these coaches are still getting paid their original salary, they should be kept on campus. Let them clean garbage cans. Let them sweep. Cook in the cafe on campus. If they don't do what needs to be done, they could be fired with cause and not paid. Universities are ridiculous for not doing this.

Have you seen the student section at TBA after the games this weekend? A weeks worth of work for everyone we're paying a buyout.....or a week of the work we're getting from them.

Their position is clearly defined in the contract. I recognize most coaches are dumb as hell but they are smart enough to hire good agents who have good attorneys on staff.

I believe Currie wasn't fired, just relieved of his duties. He's still getting paid, which supports the cheaper to keep him theory.

He was put on paid leave, which is standard operating procedure for firing him with cause, per his contract. He'll be notified of the hearing if he wishes to contest the 'cause'.

A copy of Butch's contract floated around for a while, and I don't think it specified he would ONLY coach football. Maybe implied it but didn't specify it.

I'll be glad when this name is never mentioned again with Tennessee Athletics.

And if he wants to be deposed in court, I'm sure our lawyers will have some interesting questions regarding his time with Sandusky at Penn State.

Yes, like I have read he was on the prosecution witness list. If he knew nothing why was he on the witness list. Maybe more research needs to be done, but I did read somewhere he and Bradley both were on the prosecution list. If they were; they had to have known something or else they would not be a witness for the prosecution.

I wouldn't pay the bum a dime.

"The document, which is roughly three full pages of text, indicates that it "constitutes a binding agreement between Coach and the University . . . and cancels and supersedes all prior existing oral and written agreements between the University and Coach."

"Tennessee's main challenge is that, within the four corners of the MOU, it does not make it clear that the Chief Financial Officer's signature on the document is a condition precedent for the MOU to be binding on the parties."

What this may boil down to is did Davenport send Currie to Ohio as her proxy in order to sign Schiano to the contract. If she did, there are probably emails and text messages that prove she did, and that would make her complicit in the hire. That might be ball game.

I still wouldn't pay the bum anything.

Currie can't sign for both Davenport and Dipietro. I can't see why Schiano would want his career to be dead with all the Sandusky stuff coming back up.

Currie likely won't be officially terminated until this matter gets settled. I expect some kind of sealed settlement to protect all parties involved.

That guy was on the radio this morning in Nashville. Sounded like a lawyer reaching for legitimacy in a claim. Also before he left, he said he was a gator fan and Tn. was probably rushing after seeing what Fl. had done.
