Hyams reporting that Dormady will play?

Really tough situation for the coaches to be in. Our offense has been rendered one dimensional but that doesn't automatically mean that QD gives the team the best chance to win. He seems mobile but Dobbs has had to be downright slippery at times to escape pressure. However, with a good quick pass passing game and the threat of throwing over top, QD may suppress some of the bull rushing that is collapsing the pocket. But will it?? Tough questions. Awfully tough decision. I hope the kid gets a shot. We need a spark of some kind, given the lack of half time adjustments our staff makes.

Very true, but by changing everything you know, how can the kid become comfortable? Tom Brady he will never be. Kiffen is a D bag but he was able to get some positives out of a head case like Crompton. Maybe a good coach would recognize a player's best assets and try to make the most of those instead of trying to make him something that he isn't.

DeBord noted that his feet were spaced wrong and he was throwing against his body...not exactly reinventing the wheel. The rest is part of the effort to avoid rushing him every down like it's the wishbone. I think they wanted to make him a more effective passer and it hasn't worked. You think trying to make THE QB a better passer is an ignoble effort ?

If this is true. And he can keep defense honest I think our run game takes off for 4 quarters. I do think he's good enough if they do bull rush whole defense line to find someone open.

Throwing out a true QB, instead of a good athlete, could be the winning ticket. Freshmen QB's are succeeding all over the country right now...Missouri is pretty happy with theirs.

We were happy the way Dobbs shredded SC too.

Our problems in the WR are the other half of the issue. Dobbs threw well enough to be AR, without the dropped passes. Josh Malone was faxing it in, and North took himself out of the game for a "strained lower back". Is he kidding? He was supposed to be the next AJ Green. There is some problem there, and it needs to be fixed.

It starts in practice and game planning/scheme.

Ask yourself, if you are a WR and you know that majority of the plays call will be you blocking? Your name might be called 1 time out of 30 plays?

Of course our WR's will suck it up and take themselves out

I'm thinking the luster wore off that win a while back. USCjr had, and still has, a horrible defense. Not to mention the novelty of our "running QB" has significantly diminished. If you haven't noticed, teams are scheming for that ability now.

I'm not sure you're proving your point the way you intended.

2-3, season failing fast, cant complete a pass more than 5 yards down the field?

We are not 2-3 because of Josh Dobbs, We are 2-3 because of play-calling, coaching, Oline play, receivers dropping the ball and an inability to make field goals.

Most reasonable people in the media thought this was 7 win team, maybe 8. We weren't suppose to beat Oklahoma, Florida has had our # for 11 years to be exact. Arkansas was a touch team as well. The season can still finish at the 7-8 win mark but a 9+ win team we are not. We are who they say we are and that is the hard facts. Could we have overacheived and won those 3 games? Yes, but we didn't so we will progress and go at it each and every week like every other team in the country.

No reason to throw in a Unproven Freshman QB against the meat of our schedule. The outcome would be horrible and we probably wouldn't even make a bowl game.

I hope Dobbs doesn't get hurt because there are some people who will be really hurt if Dormady isn't as good as he looked against Western Carolina against SEC defenses.

What if Dormady is just a better QB?

If he was he would be the starter....So he must not be.

He isn't redshirting so they can play him as much as they want....I wonder why they don't? They don't really trust him to lead this team!!! They can talk all the coach speak about his progression and finding him time but they haven't done it yet. 2 quarters in the Western Carolina game, sounds like he's ready to start to me.

The point is if the coaches really trusted QD to play then he would be playing more. but he isn't so that means one of 2 things. The don't believe he is better than Dobbs or He isn't ready to play (they don't trust him).

The most popular guy on the football team is always the back-up QB.

Best post I've ever read

So Dobbs has no role in any of the losses but basically is our saving grace to having a chance at a bowl game?

Seems legit.

You know how I feel. It's more youth on the field but no different than what we are already fielding and he's a real qb. He'll take his hits like every other young qb but it will pay dividends down the road and you have nothing to lose.

Except every game left this season.

To be fair, the only game teams would have had to adjust for this was FL. He hasn't really tried to run in any other game. Not sure why they aren't utilizing his obvious strength, but it is what it is.

we will loose to GA and AL with Dobbs and then Dormady will start against KY. I think Butch knows the Dormady is the better QB and is looking for an excuse to to start him. Why would you burn his redshirt when dobbs is a junior if you didn't have any intention of playing him.

Because you need backups? Cuz players get hurt?

Not trying because the box is stacked to stop the run. This wouldn't happen if he was any threat to stretch the field.

Watching the Arkansas game it was obvious to me Arkansas had one huge weakness (pass defense) and Dobbs was completely unable to take advantage of it. I'm not sure how he doesn't get some blame for the losses. It's definitely not all on him but his deficiencies have loomed pretty large.

If Dormady is able to get a downfield passing attack going it could completely change the offense. I see why the coaches might be tempted. There isn't any margin for error in coaching, playcalling, O-line play, WRs getting separation etc.. if the defense isn't worried about you hitting a big play through the air. Given Dormady is a freshman playing him is probably a desperation move but we don't know what he's looked like in practice. There are definitely freshman QBs that have succeeded in the SEC.

Maybe if we put Dormady in we want block in the back on a punt return, fumble on the 10 yard line, or miss a short field goal. I'm sure these things will be corrected just by changing QB's plus the fact that the OL can't block anybody.
And Dormady will help the Vols make key tackles in the secondary to halt long drives by the opponent.

No, but he may be able to convert a 3rd and long in the 4th, keeping our defense off the field, and helping ensure we don't put a tired defense in a spot to lose a lead.
