They hired Bama Dave. He messed alot of stuff up. You hire a Alabama guy and he comes to Tennessee and gets rid of the Lady Vols logo (except basketball) Hire a Tennessee guy ( Dave Blackburn) who knows Tennessee Vols athletic dept. Its not rocket science, guys in charge.
By whom? Joe DiPietro is the invisible man. He's brought all the leadership of a potted ficus tree to the president's office. You want to let the boosters just hire the AD directly themselves?
If there's one thing I've learned from following almost 30 years of University of Tennessee politics, it's that the UTK campus needs a strong and independent chancellor to thrive. I don't know anything about this woman but her apparent unwillingness to just rubber stamp some hire she had no part in making is a great sign for those of us who care about the Knoxville campus.

It's a sign to me as to why we shouldn't have made a broad a chancellor.
Actually with the craziness of the fans over this hire, it seems they hired the right person.
Why shouldn't she take her time and have multiple folks interviewed to make the best decision for UT? If Blackburn is the best decision then he will be the one hired.
We literally have the most incompetent people in the world running our beloved university. It is truly mind boggling at this point.

Assuming she knows what she is doing and what makes a successful AD. And I can't say I've seen anything in her resume that leads me to believe she knows anything about a qualified AD. Truth be told your line of thinking is why we stay mediocre. Instead of making easy obvious choices, people that think like you would rather play some pointless game for attention. That's what I think is going on her. She wants everyone to know 'she's in charge'.
And if LA Vol's information is correct, her "not wanting a Tennessee guy", that doesn't sound like a legitimate search for the best candidate. Sounds biased to be honest.
My personal opinion (... and am not an insider and know nothing ...) is that she wants to avoid anyone who may be able in any way to be connected to the events within the lawsuit. And I think this has more than likely translated to not wanting a Tennessee guy.
What I said in a different thread was Ms. Davenport has always wanted UT to conduct a national search and vet a broader list of candidates. She doesn't want UT to focus on a Tennessee guy and she is not all that impressed/comfortable/onboard (pick your qualifier) with the two Tennessee candidates.
That was her position from the outset, though, so the real issue is-- why did UT stop the national search last fall and refocus on the two Tennessee guys?
