Could we not have more inept people as boosters or BOT members. These people are jokes.

They hired Bama Dave. He messed alot of stuff up. You hire a Alabama guy and he comes to Tennessee and gets rid of the Lady Vols logo (except basketball) Hire a Tennessee guy ( Dave Blackburn) who knows Tennessee Vols athletic dept. Its not rocket science, guys in charge.

'Bama Dave' did a decent job. If they had no one in mind, they should have signed him to a 3 year deal and moved on. It annoys me to no end when idiots Forrest Gump their way to a lot of money.

By whom? Joe DiPietro is the invisible man. He's brought all the leadership of a potted ficus tree to the president's office. You want to let the boosters just hire the AD directly themselves?

If there's one thing I've learned from following almost 30 years of University of Tennessee politics, it's that the UTK campus needs a strong and independent chancellor to thrive. I don't know anything about this woman but her apparent unwillingness to just rubber stamp some hire she had no part in making is a great sign for those of us who care about the Knoxville campus.

Lol.

It's a sign to me as to why we shouldn't have made a broad a chancellor.

What the hell are they doing? Why does Tennessee insist on not hiring Blackburn? LWS, DP do you have any idea of this new delay and why? It seems like Blackburn was all but lined up by VN and now it reads like the search is just beginning. Is Davenport to blame? What a freaking mess.

I agree. This should not be a rubber stamp hire.

Actually with the craziness of the fans over this hire, it seems they hired the right person.

Why shouldn't she take her time and have multiple folks interviewed to make the best decision for UT? If Blackburn is the best decision then he will be the one hired.

That's ideally how it should and would play out, but remember we are talking about the administration at Tennessee here. I sure hope I'm wrong, but it will end up being a dumpster fire in all likelihood.

We literally have the most incompetent people in the world running our beloved university. It is truly mind boggling at this point.

Spot on brother. It's like the whole damn bunch got together with notepads over coffee and said "what's the absolute best way to eff everything up, as bad as we can eff it up, and run UT athletics in the ground and when we're done we'll all get our nails done and get spray tans!"

Assuming she knows what she is doing and what makes a successful AD. And I can't say I've seen anything in her resume that leads me to believe she knows anything about a qualified AD. Truth be told your line of thinking is why we stay mediocre. Instead of making easy obvious choices, people that think like you would rather play some pointless game for attention. That's what I think is going on her. She wants everyone to know 'she's in charge'.

And if LA Vol's information is correct, her "not wanting a Tennessee guy", that doesn't sound like a legitimate search for the best candidate. Sounds biased to be honest.

My personal opinion (... and am not an insider and know nothing ...) is that she wants to avoid anyone who may be able in any way to be connected to the events within the lawsuit. And I think this has more than likely translated to not wanting a Tennessee guy.

Interesting point.

It doesn't have to be a Tennessee guy is true.

That also shouldn't disqualify a viable option either.

Could be true.

Be interesting to see some facts on what involvement he had. Just because he was here doesn't hold water.

@travhaney I've been told the longer search drags, less likely its going to be David Blackburn

Same guy who predicted Dabo Swinney would be a nightmare for the Clemson AD after the hire. :)

I agree with you. I'm sure she will be well informed as is others who will make this decision of who is on the black list and who isn't.

What I said in a different thread was Ms. Davenport has always wanted UT to conduct a national search and vet a broader list of candidates. She doesn't want UT to focus on a Tennessee guy and she is not all that impressed/comfortable/onboard (pick your qualifier) with the two Tennessee candidates.

That was her position from the outset, though, so the real issue is-- why did UT stop the national search last fall and refocus on the two Tennessee guys?

Probably has to with the backing that the one has had ever since Hart's announcement.

Sometimes I just ask myself why?! Just why?... So let me get this straight the UT administration is planning to waste time, resources, hire committee, and pay committee when our best and most likely candidate is less than 3 hours away! Makes since!
