Hyams: oline if they had to play today

I think you're forgetting Chance Hall. So Hall and Richmond ... and that's if they shift Coleman Thomas back to Center, otherwise we'll have three OTs to choose from without having to go to a true freshman.

The cupboard's not that bare.

I am with you on Hall! I think he is going to be a good one. he looks very athletic to me! JMO

The hint, "Dobbs not great in practice" is concerning.

When has he looked good in practice? That is why he did not start last year until players in front of him were hurt. If he does not play well, one of the freshmen will come through. He seems to be a game-day QB Not to worry.

Kerbyson
Kendrick
Crowder
Jones
Thomas

Roberson would take a spot if healthy.

Also first practice yesterday was cancelled for a fresher night scrimmage and to avoid injuries.

RB depth for legit contribution? Looks good in drills but need more live action to tell the tale.

Hinted that Dobbs was not great in practice but was a gamer.

Hyams on Khalil:

Will require 2 blockers. Staff trying to get him down to 330 he's well over 340.

Will need he and Tuttle by AR.

Will take a few games to get adjusted.

When teammates brag on you you know your good, teammates are bragging.

Phillips is really good will contribute a lot.

Vols have rabbit package with 4 DE's for passing downs.

Malone looks more comfortable.

More on Dobbs: Ceo has looked good.

On Dormady: Chance to be a really good QB. UT has talent at QB.

And the J Troop at receiver will produce...Jonathan Johnson, Josh Smith, Josh Malone, JaJuan Jennings, Jason Croom...these boys can spell Pig and North and give time for "Presto" Williams to develop. Our receiving corps has more legit weapons than we've had in years. We no longer just have 2-3 "go-to" targets at money time...we have many.

Wasn't Thomas fairly terrible at RT last year? I'm guessing that is a weak spot.

Most true freshman would be especially considering the staff out together a terrible plan to give him help.

I expect him to be an elite player sooner than later

Gotta think Weatherd would be in there somewhere..... Probably the SAM in that situation

Thanks, CWG, you're absolutely right, I forgot about Chris. He has to be in the rabbit package, he's too good at pass rush not to be!

Dobbs by all accounts lit it up at the camp last month. Seems he performs better when the spot light is on..

Looks like someone is trying to cover their tracks about why Dobbs didn't start last year. Someone else mentioned this earlier, but the fact Dobbs got such rave reviews out of the Elite 11 camp should shut up all these he's not great at practice rumors. Many of the national media heads were saying he was the most impressive QB (along with JT Barrett) at the camp. And remember, this camp included the likes of Deshuan Watson and Christian Hackenburg.

Dobbs will be AMAZING this year. Just watch!

Elite 11 is skelly practice at BEST. You cant equate elite 11 to D1 fall camp

Asiianti Woullard won MVP that year, losing out to a true freshman at UCLA as we speak. So I see the science in your post

Willis, one thing I noticed while compiling the starting OLines from 2008-2014 in that other thread, is that backup OLinemen don't play anywhere near as much as backups in other positions.

I mean, we rotate RBs and WRs out like interchangeable pieces in a Ford assembly line sometimes. We do the same with DLinemen when we can afford to.

But those 5 starting OLinemen, about the only way they ever come out of a game is if (1) the outcome is already decided (mop-up time) or (2) they get injured. Sometimes, they don't even come out for (2), heh.

So looking at the two-deep is important to be ready for injuries, but it's not gonna tell us a lot otherwise. It really is on the starting five.

Which makes the question of Jack Jones, Jashon Robertson, and Mack Crowder so compelling...how does that Center-Guard triangle play out over the next few weeks....

I think the rest of the OLine is set (Kerbyson-Kendrick-___-___-Thomas), it's just a question of those 2 spots and those 3 men.
I agree and well said.

He's got a heavy course load. He's probably exhausted mentally. A lot of guys were gamers, not a great comparison, but Bray was a gamer. Went 5-30 in a spring game. Although that was likely due to being hungover.

I think this is closer to the truth than people think... we have to remember this kid is not taking sociology 101 and military science(do they still have that course? I took it with Heath Shuler and the only reason he passed was he was the QB-- sharp as a box of rocks)--- This kid's brain is taxed by the time he hits practice and he is probably doing homework in his head while going through pass progressions.... He is a gamer and will do well for us when the lights come on....

Confusing is confusing.

Not really. Is Dobbs a Tyler Bray that can drop a beer bottle into a gallon sized waste basket from 50 yards? No. Does he have all the other intangibles to lead this team to wins like mobility and leadership, yes. Also from other reports the vibe is Dormady is a more naturally gifted passer but that comparison aside Dobbs is the captain of this team on many levels.

Dobbs has never been a great practice player. He seems to be a guy that when the game is on he comes to play.

If Thomas plays tackle our season is done for. I saw plays last year where he didn't even lay a hand on the pash rusher

First comment: welcome.

Second comment: wrong.

First explanation: because he was a true freshman playing out of position, and playing because we were definitionally desperate. If he wins the starting job this year, with a handful of very talented freshmen and a few other decent options, then it is because he has turned the corner, and learned to turn his talent into performance.

We don't judge every kid forever by what he does in his freshmen year...especially when the circumstances are not at all conducive to success.

I understand he was a freshman out of position, but he didn't seem to even put up a fight on passing downs, it was rough to watch.

You used the expression "our season is done" if we use Thomas at RT. That is a completely ridiculous thing to say. So I stand by my "good grief" comment.
