Hyams: How can a 4-8 team have 13 players in NFL camp?

This is why Botch is out getting Saban's paper and coffee every morning and making in annual salary what the fry guy gets at McDonalds.

Well when you get a cash infusion form big orange it makes that fry guy job a little more do-able

You can't really blame those guys for leaving for the draft. After what was happening to them or their fellow teammates and the injury situation, they wouldn't want to hang around another year to risk injury. On the downside, these guys hurt their draft stock because their on-field work wasn't very compelling outside of a few moments of brilliance. Some of the guys had already decided to move on before Pruitt was announced as the new head coach. Pruitt will start his head coaching career in a tight spot, stuck between a rock and a hard place. He'll have the challenge of motivating some guys who gave up last year and still have given up so far. If Pruitt cuts them, he'll be shorthanded, or he'll have to get them to shape up, literally and figuratively. It will be a tough season either way.

True, but man won't this make a great 30 for 30, retelling the rising from the ashes and the return to dominance. It practically writes itself!!!

So Jimmy defended Butch to the last, berating people who dared question what is going on, only to ask the same question many of us were asking before.

The only time a game comes down to "one play", is when that play is the last play.

Well, close.

Scenario: Team A is down by 5, has the ball with no time outs, 1:30 left in the game. 4th and forever, ball's at midfield. Time for the Hail Mary or best trick play, rolling the dice for the game. No joy. Now Team B has the ball, 1:20 left, and can run out the clock. There are still 2 or 3 downs left in the game, but they're pretty much meaningless. Victory formation, run out the clock.

In that scenario, the game did come down to one play, but it was not the final play of the game.

That happens all the time.

I do agree with you if you modify your statement just a little bit: "The only time a game comes down to 'one play', is when that play is the last play for the losing team."

We would have been in the playoff in 2015 and 16 with a decent HC.

Maybe; we definitely should have won the East both years. Getting into the playoff likely would have required beating Alabama in the SECCG.

Despite the records being the same, the 2015 team was better than 2016. They should have had wins over at least Oklahoma and Florida. How they lost those games was inexcusable. I can't put the Arkansas game in that category because while we blew a lead it wasn't entirely because of a coaching choke job late in the fourth quarter.

The 2015 team should have been 10-2, maybe 11-1, with an East championship.

The 2016 team could have gone so many different ways. You can argue they should have been 11-1 (losing only to Alabama). You can also argue they should have been 6-6 (losing to App St and Georgia in addition to the 4 other games they lost). They finished right in the middle of those 2 outcomes, which is probably what they deserved based on how inconsistent they played.

I actually consider the OU and UF games wins in 2015.

It was Butch's program and he deserves the lion's share of the blame but except for the 2nd half of the '16 Florida game, that defense wouldn't play for Bob Shoop. He was worse than Sunseri with much more talent. That's what really baffles me.

Except Shoop has a resume before Tennessee.

The common denominator of failure is Butch.

What it also means was how poorly coached we were during Dobb's junior and senior season campaigns. His junior year we gave Bammer all they wanted, with a good set of coaches that team should have been in the NC conversation yea or nay?

We were also coming off a bye week and bama was at the tail end of a pretty brutal gauntlet of games. Can't overlook that. If we were going to beat them, that was the year.
