Hyams claims AJ Branisel not long with this program

If you read the post I wasn't blaming Butch for those players leaving I was pointing out how we as fans lost players we were really high on. I wasn't placing blame on anyone. Just pointing out we celebrate when we get them and then act like no big deal when they leave. I never like to see any player leave. Yes Butch gets tons of credit for Dobbs and even Sheriron last year. For the record I think Butch has done a great job. Maybe I don't express that enough.

Butch makes mistakes...in coaching AND recruiting. Has and will. All talent managers have and will. If you're at a certain level, you can bridge those mistakes because you recruit at a higher proportion of hits to the misses. I believe Butch is at that level. If I'm wrong then you're right and NEITHER of us are happy.

Butch Jones coaches players hard. He is demeaning, degrading and insulting. Players who are getting playing time can put up with it because he's not as hard on them and because they get the glory. Players who are providing depth don't get the rewards, so for them, it's not worth being miserable for four or five years. The end result will be lack of depth.

Do you know Ellis?

I agree. These recruits ain't robots. Every one of them have personalities. You don't just switch them on and expect them to be what you want them to be. Some work out and some don't.

I don't have to be wrong for you to be right. I honestly don't see a problem with 90% of the attrition. This started because I commented that Branisel leaving 3 weeks before the season started seems like an unusual time to leave and I do think it leaves us very thin at this position. The conversation spiraled from there which is usually the case but we acted like adults for the most part. Luckily the season starts soon......

I agree GL.Man if these people wanna be in denial and don't see this as a hit on our depth at TE, what else can you say?

According to LWS, he's looking to play at an FCS school. Another case of a kid realizing he's not able to play at a D-1 level. Most of the kids that transferred went to schools with lesser talent and tradition than UT. Henderson's name keeps coming up, but he was a casualty of the NCAA clearinghouse. Paulk punched his girlfriend. Sawyers was a pothead that didn't go to class, similar story with Oliver. Bruce didn't apparently fit in well with the upperclassmen. Most of Butch's attrition occurred from Dooley recruited players or his first year when he had a short time to put a quick class together. Each year that passes we will have more talented, mentally stronger players that will ensure a winning program. I for one am not worried about soft or lesser talented players choosing to go elsewhere.

Send him on down I-75 South to UT-Chattanooga! We'd love to have him in Blue and Gold! :clapping:

Well said.

I remember Branisel coming back for a pass, catching it, turning 180 in an eye-blink, running straight down the field, and putting his shoulder into a tackler for good yards. Witten makes a living doing that, but maybe he runs faster. Lot of our past, taller TEs seemed to go airborne like bowling pins when they ran into traffic, pinwheeling into an injury. Whatever his reasons for leaving, good luck to Branisel. I thought that his commit gave Butch's first class a little boost. Was glad to have him.

Yea, Branisel had a TD, 4th.down catch vs Georgia blocked Clowney as a Freshman. How many freshman can say that...D-1 was no problem for this kid.
Good Luck AJ.

He had a "4th down catch blocked"? By Clowney?

If he is transferring to an FCS school it may not be because he doesn't think he can play at a D1 level. I believe it would have more to do with the fact that he won't have to sit out a year when transferring down.

He sat out last year and would be eligible to play this year at D-1.

Is that really how it works? What if it was a redshirt freshman who sat the first year here at UT. Decides to transfer to another D-1 the next year. Does he not have to sit a year still? I thought you pretty much had to sit no matter what unless you had graduated the year before. TIA

The attrition rate is high at all major programs and it will always be high. Sign 25 guys and six will be gone after two years, another six will never get significant playing time, leaving half to make a contribution. That's the way it is, alas.

You may be right. I just thought he had to sit out a year before playing at another school. But he may have to sit out at the new school or away from the original school (transferring down).

He would have to sit this year and have two more years to play. He still has three years but will burn one on transfer. If he graduated he would be able to play.
