Hyams claims AJ Branisel not long with this program

Jennings will almost certainly be in the receiver rotation. Kid apparently has loads of talent. Carl Pickens/James Banks 2.0

Funny you make that comparison. I our he's wearing 15, but some of his movements in the first scrimmage vid brought back memories of Carl Pickins. Jennings looks like a stud. Glad he made the move now. Doubt he sees much of a look at safety. Z won't let him leave I would say. :-D

Coach Jones is trying to build a championship team.. In doing so, he is a frigging hard nosed coach and demands success.. I think some players during the recruiting process hears him.. But doesn't really HEAR him.. They know it will be tough playing for CBJ.. But do they really know how tough.. Until they become a player.

Now the dreaded comparison..

If you are being recruited by Coach Saban to Alabama.. You already have that perception of playing for a strict and disciplinarian type coach.. Pretty much a given.. But Coach Jones is, to me, just now getting that reputation..

Not sure if I would say CBJ is a disciplinarian, but he demands the best from everyone, at all times, in every way.

I think the attrition will decrease each year because recruits will know more about how Coach Jones works as a coach, and hopefully will be seeing the results on the field to coincide. So up front, they know the demands to play for Tennessee will be extremely high under Coach Jones.

As for AJ.. I think it was related to not coming back 100% from his injury.. This is JMHO

You may be right but AJ has been beastly in the circle of life drills since his return and that's really all that matters anyway.

Circle of Life drills?...what channel are they on?

That would be interesting. We really haven't lost many players that have got significant playing time but we have lost several players we were very high on. Carr, Harris, Ferguson, Helm, Henderson, Payne, Sawyers, Scott, Wharton, Jenkins etc. and that's just the 2013-2015 classes. There are only maybe 6-7 players left total from the 2012 class that would presumably be RS Juniors or Seniors this year. At some point it matters.

Bama has been leaking players like a sieve, for the past 7 years. They've managed to keep these lights on.

Not that some quality potential is not on your list. But, many times the issue is about fit or PT. Butch can do fine simply by upgrading with the open scholarship.

It's kinda like "wasting water". Just because it pours out on the ground does not mean it's gone. It naturally recycles, just like a program that can recruit.

They thought he had something worth recruiting. So they did.

Hyams had mentioned him as one that was recruited with zero tolerance. Good potential but up to Oliver to seize the opportunity or flush it down the toilet. Guess he made his choice. I have no doubt that he would have had support had he chosen to take the high road.

Butch was smart to Blue Shirt and not give scholarship right away then.

Good point. I know UT already has a higher academic standard than what has been set by the SEC. Then you have CBJs above average approach, this will be interesting. Add in that a decent number of "stars" aren't choir boys. While this combination has to make the rebuild more difficult, if pulled off in the end, we should have something to brag about. :crossfingers:

It gets better every class...signed Branisel and Woody Quinn in that one. We get a level higher each time out...reverse attrition. :)

Can't blame me if I did get confused since you directly mentioned the Tight Ends we signed in 2013.

Maybe you should offer your scouting ability to Butch, I'm sure he could use someone like you on his staff.

I never claimed to be an expert but it doesn't take a genius to see Oliver was a mistake and we should have signed another TE. I'm pretty sure CBJ would agree at this point. Recruiting will never be perfect but to act like the coaching staff never make a mistake is ridiculous.

Dirty pool quoting me twice in the same post. :). My point was that THE RECRUITING gets better every class. Hence my calm in losing one from the first and the less productive one in the second. A blind person could see the improvement in team speed from that first class...whatever attrition has occurred hasn't slowed that. I have a simpler approach than you. Something is impressive I enjoy it...I'll leave the apprehension and angst for the professionals. :)

Why waste all day complaining if you know recruiting is not perfect. Seems like a waste of energy to me.

Some of the attrition "mistakes" you quoted are a little ridiculous. Henderson? Butch recruited a DE with potential...who showed up and practiced then in December has a problem with his ACT results? Riley Ferguson? Butch doesn't get credit for flipping his own guy to go with the QB he inherited? Lot of hindsight AH-HAs that seem petty when viewed in full light. :)

I do agree the roster is getting better. CBJ has done a great job. I guess today I just decided to fret over attrition and Branisel leaving then having to think about our offensive line. I'm much happier when I stick to defense.

If you read the post I wasn't blaming Butch for those players leaving I was pointing out how we as fans lost players we were really high on. I wasn't placing blame on anyone. Just pointing out we celebrate when we get them and then act like no big deal when they leave. I never like to see any player leave. Yes Butch gets tons of credit for Dobbs and even Sheriron last year. For the record I think Butch has done a great job. Maybe I don't express that enough.

This defense is potentially at a talent level never seen here...sheerly from the numbers...potentially.
