Tells me all I need to know about Currie. Expect more mediocrity for the next 5-7 years. Mike Hamilton never truly left Tennessee.
Next loss and Butch is gone. Even if he wins out it will then be a toss up whether he stays or goes. I still think best case is TN wins out, Butch leaves for another job.
I have more faith in Currie than Hyams. Hyams was singing the praises of Jones just a few years ago. How did that work out?
Hate to say it, but so was just about everyone on Vol Nation at that time.
Botch is nothing more than Dooley II. He was a poor hire from the start.
Let's hope and pray the big boosters pull out their wallets or we may get another like the last two. That would be a disgrace to a proud program like the University of Tennessee. We have suffered too much already. People won't continue to shell out hard earned money every year for athletic dept contributions and season tickets.
Either we get a proven big-name coach or admit we are the new Mississippi State.
 "throw the baby out with the bathwater" comes to mind as i read some of the thoughts people have posted in the last few days.Dude. There are lots of reasons not the least of which is a million $ or two to work behind the scenes before firing Jones. Someone mentioned "ethics" but the real world is that UT's search firm has probably started a search. They use hints and innuendos like always.
So imagine it going something like this... A rep of the search firm approaches James Franklin's agent (for the sake of example) and says, "I represent a major SEC program that may not ask its 5 year coach to return. Hypothetically.... would any of your clients currently coaching at a similarly historic program entertain offers?"
The answer regardless of whether there's serious interest... is going to be "yes". You then throw them a number and wait to see if they bite or just use it for leverage.
There is ALWAYS "plausible deniability" for both sides right up until the end. Coaches don't want to be seen as not being wanted. Programs don't want to be publicly turned down.
